If you use multiple flowsheet sectionsand choose to hide some of them on theflowsheet, then attempt to move theicon representing a stream flowing intothe hidden section, Aspen Plus maycrash.

Sometimes property tables whichreference streams are not regeneratedafter making changes to a run.

This happens when the changes youmake are handled via an Edit Run. Toforce the tables to update, reinitialize thesimulation and re-run it. You can turn offInteractively Load Results on theTools | Options | Run tab to ensurethis is always updated.

If you use a filename which includesextra dots (such as file.name.bkp),some functions may not work.

Avoid using the period character (.) infilenames except before the actual fileextension.

When you attempt to use Aspen EnergyAnalyzer from an Aspen Plus run inwhich you opened a file from a non-writable folder, Aspen Energy Analyzerwill crash.

Copy the Aspen Plus file to a writablefolder and open it from this locationbefore using it with Aspen EnergyAnalyzer.

If, in Aspen Simulation Workbook, yourun an Aspen Plus case with EconomicAnalysis active, and that case fails toconverge, Economic Analysis does notrun but Aspen Simulation Workbookmay hang while waiting for economicresults.

In the Find Variables dialog box for theCustom Tables feature, the searchcapability does not work.

You can add variables to Custom Tablesfrom the tree view of the Find Variablesdialog box, or by copying and pastingthem form forms, etc.

Aspen Plus might crash If you enter aninvalid plant data URL.

Set the URL after saving your work anduse Save As Default so that the URL onlyneeds to be entered once.

If you add a variable which is displayedin a grid of results with only a commonunit of measure for the whole column ofdata (as in RadFrac profiles) to a customtable, and then change the unit for thatvariable from the custom table, thevalue converts to the new units both inthe custom table and in the grid, but inthe grid there is no indication of the newunits. The variable will be displayed in adifferent unit in the grid than the rest ofits column of data.

Avoid doing this and be aware of thispossibility when using custom tables. Youcan reset the units for the grid column bychanging them to any other unit, thenchanging the back.

Extensions delivered with HYSYS V8.0can stop working after uninstallingHYSYS V7.3 in a machine having bothversions installed.

You can reregister the extensions. Go tothe Customize tab in the ribbon andselect register extension. Browse to theextensions folder and select theextension you want to register.




Plant View: HYSYS might crash if youenter an invalid plant data URL.

Set the URL after saving your work anduse Save As Default so that the URL onlyneeds to be entered once.

HYSYS Equation Oriented (HYSYS EO):Some pages in the EO block forms donot show correctly, e.g. Local Scriptsand Script Methods. Synchronizationwas found to fail in some cases.

When selecting a language that uses thecomma decimal separator in WindowsRegional Settings, Aspen HYSYS stillkeeps the dot as the decimal separator.

This only need be done one time;

thereafter, the labels are present.

Economic Evaluation V8.0Product FamilyThe following section describes known issues that can apply to EconomicEvaluation V8.0 Product Family.


Machines having multiple versions ofAspen Economic Evaluation installedwill experience the followingbehavior:

Once V8.0 Aspen EconomicEvaluation is installed, it will becomethe default version on the machine.

This means the V8.0 version of theEconomic Evaluation API will becomethe default (or current) version.This could affect the behavior forusers who run the SpreadsheetImport/Export feature in V7.3.2

1. On a Windows XP machine, once V7.3.2ACCE is launched, the ACCE API currentversion will become V7.3.2 and theSpreadsheet Import/Export feature will workin the normal manner. Note:simultaneously running ACCE V8 and V7.3.2will cause problems in determining thecurrent API version. When this happens,shut down both versions of ACCE and startthe version where running the Spreadsheet

Import/Export feature is desired.

2. On a Windows 7 machine, the API currentversion does not change at runtime (as itdoes on an XP machine). Thus, once ACCEV8.0 is installed, this will become thedefault/current EE API version. If usersdesire to run the Spreadsheet Import/Exportfeature in V7.3.2, the V7.3.2 ICAPICOM.dllwill need to be re-registered. This can bedone via the following steps:

a. Close all Economic Evaluationprograms.

b. Open the command prompt as anadministrator. NOTE: It is notsufficient to have administratorprivileges. The User has to rightclick on the DOS shell application torun as administrator.

c. Browse to the EE V7.3.2“Program\Sys” directory: E.G.:“\ProgramFiles(x86)\AspenTech\EconomicEvaluation V7.3.2\Program\Sys”.

d. Run the command: regsvr32icapicom.dll

e. A message dialog saying “DLLregister server was successful” etc.should be obtained.

f. Open V7.3.2 and run spreadsheet

import/export.

Note: follow the same instructions to re-registerV8.0 as the current API version (except run thecommand from the V8.0 Sys directory).





CQ – 404999

Source media may be required when Resiliencyis triggered.

The software will trigger Resiliency to configurethe application for a new or Restricted user on amachine. This will occur the first time any EEapplication is launched (by the user) and will notoccur again once it has successfully completed.Thus, in order for the system to behave asdesigned, it is important to let the Resiliencyprocess complete. Under normal situations,Resiliency can be completed without requiringthe Source Media from which the applicationwas installed from. However, there have beencomplications where a request is made duringthe Resiliency Process for the source media.

During testing, we have determined potentialcause for the source media requirement. Ifanother user on the same machine ran MS Excelfrom within the EE system, even if the Excelspreadsheet is merely opened and closedwithout saving, some file attributes change inExcel that cause the installer to think theinstallation has changed (the attributes that arechanged are invisible to the user). Once thishappens, the source media requirement is madeby the installer.

The root cause of this issue is a Microsoft Excel2003 design issue (it does not happen withWord 2003 or Excel 2007) and cannot be fullyaddressed within the application or installer. Asa reference, the following MS KB link describesthe Excel behavior.

If the source media is available, theuser should make it available duringthis process. This media can be thedownload location, network drive, orDVD (when available).

If the source media is not available,the original user that ran MS Excelfrom the EE application will need torun the same test (under the originalaccount). If the Reporter was run,the user should open thecorresponding template xls file inExcel and save the file (w/o anychanges). This will change the timestamp on the file and the installerwill ignore it when the Resiliencyprocess is run. The Excel templatefiles are located in:

\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Documents\AspenTech\SharedEconomic EvaluationV8.0\Reporter\Templates

Automatic Economic Evaluation withScenarios – When running a scenariostudy with a simulation case that hasautomatic Economic Evaluation turnedon, you must make the simulation casevisible in order for the scenario study tooperate properly.

To do this, make sure that the “Visible”checkbox is checked on the Simulationsgroup of the ASW ribbon bar in Excel.

The top level Online Help only shows thetop level Index and Searches will onlyfind keywords contained at the top level,rather than finding entries in every topicof the Online Help. When moving todifferent topics in the Contents tab, theIndex and keyword search will only findentries contained in those topics.

Use the Contents to navigate through theonline help, or making local searchesunder the relevant topic.

There is an Alias field in the PureComponent Editor that may be edited bythe user. This Alias is used to identifythe component in the Aspen Propertiesdatabanks and must therefore match avalue in those databanks.

If the user enters an Alias that is notknown by Aspen Properties, thecomponent will be treated as a usercomponent and no parametersavailable, unless they are entered in thePure Component Dialog.

If the user entered Alias contains invalidcharacters for Aspen Properties, thesoftware may crash.

The Alias is usually filled in whenselecting a component from the AspenProperties databanks.

If the information is entered manuallyinstead, the user must be aware of theabove and ensure that no invalidcharacters are entered. Please observeAspen Properties rules. If the userintends to use a component from theAspen Properties databanks and is notsure of what its Alias may be, it is usefulto start Aspen Properties, use theComponent Search Wizard and check thecomponent Alias retrieved

When using Simulation Importer toimport a HYSYS simulation, theconnection times out and not all of thedata is imported.

Open HYSYS one time before importingany simulations to initialize APED.

For a typical V8.0 Aspen BasicEngineering installation where only theEnd User Tools have been installed, theDrawing Editor Copy and Cut operationswill fail to copy the selected region tothe clipboard. Paste will return an errorindicating that there is nothing to paste.

Use the Symbol Replication Tool, i.e., runZyqadSymbolsReplication.exe inUserServices\bin, to copy the symbollibrary to the client system.

Simulator Support. Aspen Online Deployment V8.0 supportsversions V7.1, V7.3, and V8.0 of Aspen Plus,Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Custom Modeler, AspenModel Runner, and Exchanger Design andRating.

Earlier versions are not supported. VersionV7.3.2 of Aspen Plus is not supported.

Simulator version specification. A specific simulator version cannot bespecified for Exchanger Design and Rating(EDR) cases; the default version of EDR isused.
