Premier’s Spelling Bee 2015 The Premier’s Spelling Bee, Regional Final was held at Coal Point, on the 16th September. Felicity Matthews and Amanuel Fitzgerald represented our school in the junior session and Caitlyn Atkinson and Samantha Keogh in the senior session. On the day, our regions finest spellers went through an entertaining, but grueling elimination process to select one junior and one senior representative to progress to the State final. This will be held at the ABC Centre, 700 Harris Street, Ultimo, on Wednesday 11th November 2015. Thank you and congratulations to our incredible and very talented students who represented our school, so well. We are very proud of you.

Office of the Children’s Guardian Is it a safe place for our kids? A guide for parents (resources can be download by going to our website at www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au) What parents can do: Employers and organisations can check or verify online that their workers or volunteers have a current Working with Children Check clearance number. So you don’t need to check a person who is employed but if your child has a coach or tutor that you pay directly you can go online to verify a Working with Children Check. Step 1: Ask the person who works with your child for their surname, date of birth and WWCC or APP number. Step 2: Go to www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/check and click on the blue button. Step 3: Under Verify, click the Individuals (e.g. Parents) Verify button. Step 4: Complete the form, including the reason why you are checking the person (e.g. Sports coach, dance teacher etc.) Step 5: Click Submit Step 5: You will receive the outcome email

Family Insight – Guest Speaker

A note went home last week…

We would like to invite you to join us for our

upcoming guest speaker Lynda Wooden, Parenting

and Early Years Coordinator, Family InSight.

Thursday, 15th October at 1:30pm in the school hall

(Years 3-6 assembly to follow).

We Believe…

Parents want the best for their children

Families are diverse

The early years are critical

All families need support some times

In the value of volunteering

In the uniqueness of children

Play is important

School Counsellor – Did you know…

Warren Burden is our School Counsellor

In every school, school counsellors, teachers, the

principal and senior teachers are available to assist

students and their families. In some schools there

are also Aboriginal Education Assistants or

community liaison officers.

All work to create safe, caring schools, free from

violence and discrimination. All can help you or

your child in different ways.

School counsellors work with students, parents or

carers and teachers in a variety of ways.

Their work includes:

counselling students

assisting parents or carers to make informed

decisions about their child's education

assessing students' learning and behaviour

assisting schools to identify and address disabilities

that affect students' learning

liaising with other agencies concerned with the

well-being of students.

Until next time – Shaye Francisco –

Community Liaison Officer
