The workshop will be limited to no more than fiBeen par4cipants to support ac4ve peer learning and encourage wide ranging discussion. Limi4ng numbers also allows for some one-on-one 4me with course leaders, par4cularly when par4cipants are working on individual plans for their pathway to CE. A dinner at the end of day one will allow par4cipants to engage with each other in a less structured seGng. It will also give them the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker who will address one of the cri4cal issues facing chief execu4ves in New Zealand. Doug Jones, a member of the EPA Execu4ve Leadership team, will discuss his work in building cultural intelligence to strengthen an organisa4on’s ability to engage with its Maori stakeholders. Exploring the chief executive role The workshop will help par4cipants explore the role of chief execu4ve and what it takes to be an effec4ve CE. Understanding the dimensions of the role provides a context for par4cipants to evaluate their own readiness for such a posi4on , including honestly reflec4ng on whether this is the role they want. This is a forum in which par4cipants can learn from the course leaders and from each other as well as having 4me for deep personal reflec4on. Course leaders, Graeme Nahkies and Marjory Embleton will work with par4cipants intensively during the two-day period to share their knowledge and prac4cal experience; highlight important insights from current thinking about leadership and the role of a chief execu4ve and debunk some of the commonly held myths about what it takes to be a good CE.
