Cold Water Streams Database
Master database must be updated by each biologist’s copy of the database
9
Warm Water Streams & Lakes Databases
Master database must be updated by each region’s copy of the database
Non‐Centralized Database Consequences
• Not securely stored
• Cannot easily share data
• Master copies not updated regularly
• Takes longer to do simple analyses
We need a comprehensive database!10
Fisheries Information Network System
Goal: Provide fisheries managers and researchers a powerful and secure application they can use to easily store, view, analyze, and
share their fish data
11
FINS Features• ONE location for all data that is accessed on the INTERNET (based in SQL Server)
• Data stored DIRECTLY on server upon entry –more secure!
• EXPORT data & IMPORT data
• FIELD APP ‐ data entry
• Run REPORTS
• Modifiable to fit another agency
Possible solution!12

Next Steps…
• Obtain FINS program & coding documentation
• Make sure FINS works on DGIF server before making modifications
• Assess difficulty level of requested changes
• Work closely with biologists24
Thank You!
