Introduction • The main purpose of the not for profit

organizations is to fulfill the mission for which they were created, objectives for social purposes of improvement, inclusion, empowerment, self-improvement, assisting the needy and many more.

• On the other side are the donors who contribute time, money and other resources to achieve these goals.

Introduction

• The organization has a responsibility to meet social objectives on the one hand and on the other to make a responsible use of resources donors gave them and report regularly to all the result of management. How they were used and expended resources from donors.

• Considering both criteria this guide was developed to assess non profit organizations.

Using the assessment guide

• This guide is intended to be used by the executive committee, managers or supervisors of Non profit organizations. Answering the questionnaire and conduct a self-evaluation will give a sense how the organizations is being managed.

Using the assessment guide • The assessment will enable you to discuss

topics they had not been considered before or had spent very little time in contact with them. Also will help you find weakness and strengths in different areas of management and what degree of professional help may be needed to improve it.

• The score given for each response goes from 1-5 recital 1 as less satisfactory don´t agree at all with the argument and 5 as very satisfactory, in full compliance with the argument

Assessment outcomes

• If you get less than 100 points you should seek professional help quickly to all areas of the Non Profit Organization.

• If you get between 100 and 150 points you should seek help only in those areas where the score is less than 30

Assessment outcomes

• If you get a higher score of 150 points you should think about what areas you want to improve and plan everything for that to happen.

• If you obtained the maximum score CONGRATULATIONS !! Your organizations is doing very well !!!

The mission is well defined and motivates our donors

The mission drives the entire organization to clarify how it will contribute to individuals and society

The mission is tested at least once a year checking whether is meeting the mission and have performance measures to check it.

When formulating the strategy we always put our mission in front

Our donors are the best suited to promote the mission

We have considered strategic alliances with companies to strengthen links and donations

The non profit organization certainly knows our beneficiaries and donors

We developed two value propositions one for our direct beneficiaries and one for our donors

Part time of the organization management is assigning tasks, defining terms, specifying responsibilities and developing goals.

The strategy is focused inwards as to recognition of the staff members and outwards to the full accomplishment of the mission in the community where the activity is performed.

Knows that the outcomes of activities reflect the overall objectives of the organization

Objectives of the mission activities are assessed by department

Have indicators to measure the impact of the mission

Always reports for all members the impact of actions taken by the organization

Acknowledges that every year the impact of the mission is growing in the community where it operates

Understand that have disclosed the impact of the mission in the community, increasing year by year the number of donors (time and / or money)

Organized press releases to publicize in society the impact of the mission.

Conducted a number of surveys among beneficiaries to assess how satisfied they are with the fulfillment of the mission

Recognizes that the impact of the actions of the mission is making a difference in the community

Considered succession planning for the president of the executive committee

It meets regularly and draws on the reports of committees chosen ad hoc for the treatment of various topics

Has members who can understand and interpret the financial statements of the non profit organization

Periodically reviews the Executive or Director responsible for the operations and finances

Is responsible for ensuring the availability of financial resources for the fulfillment of the mission.

Is involved in determining the procedures to incorporate human resources to not for profit organization

Has a communication strategy with beneficiaries, the media and the public in general.

They have designed procedures to evaluate their own management to recognize achievements, achieve long-term plans and reach consensus on areas for improvement

Encourages the creation of committees which deals, analyze, develop and recommend different themes for the Executive Committee to make decisions

Expires in fixed terms, has due dates.

The non profit organization :

Regularly publishes its financial statements and data regarding revenues and expenses. Also includes statistical data and KPI´s of performance measures

It is consistent in its investment with the mission which has to perform

Complies with all tax regulations and legal framework to operate in the country

Has knowledge of best practices in terms of management and performance and applies them in the not for profit organization

To evaluate the management uses financial and non-financial indicators

The non profit organization :

Annually plans the source and application of funds

Has indicators to measure social impact and value of the activities in society

Applies world-known models to manage the organization transparently

Has the administration support and alignment with the mission and vision

Has the tools to prepare a map of the causes and effects of performance measures of the activities in the community
