Module Leader: Dr. Vimal BabuWeek-6: weightage =25%MUST READ : Important instructions mentioned at the bottom of the last page.Introduction: This is a team project which involves getting the students to explore a variety of shops started by first generation entrepreneurs in the city or in the neighborhood in order to understand the various aspects of selling and marketing products (in a nutshell, doing business). Each of the tasks is designed to get you thinking about how opportunities are found and value is created in products and services.

The Exercise: Given below are the instructions for you to carry out the activity; Giving it in a printed form will guide you through the team project.

You need to visit six shops and explore a range of shops like the street vendor selling food on a cart as well as a sophisticated fast food center or an eatery around the corner. (The only prerequisite is that he / she have to be a first generation entrepreneur).Instructions to students:

1. Try to use all your senses to catch the smallest details. Its the small things that count!

2. You will work in teams. You are encouraged to share your experiences, ideas, questions, as well as divide tasks as you see fit. Leave lots of time during the exercise to sit down as a group and discuss all that you have seen.

PART -IThings to do:

1) Visit 04 (four) different shops and consider the following:

a. What is the height of the ceiling?

b. What are the smells that you perceive?

c. What are the sounds that you hear?

d. What does the display look like? How are the products arranged?

e. How do the staff members interact with the customers, and with you?

f. How do these things affect your overall experience?

IMPORTANT: 1) The shops may include from: i. Apparels / clothing

ii. Food

iii. Electronics

iv. Cosmetics

v. Jewellery

vi. Medicine & Surgical Equipments

PART -IIInstructions: The shops nominated by you in the following task must not be the same/or from the same list of 1st activity as mentioned above.2) Visit at least two shops selling the same products. Observe these shops and discuss as a team:

a. Which one would you buy from? Why?

b. What did that shop do to entice you?

c. What are the shops doing/ or not doing that makes them less attractive to you?

d. What were the various sales strategies that you came across?

3) Create a presentation that describes your observations of activities (1) and (2).

Time: The presentation will be in the Week 6 of the module from 10.00 pm onwards. The submission of the presentation report will be in the form of hard version, typed,12 font size, times new roman,1.5 spacing with proper folder in groups. Submission must be made on Week 6 at 10:00 am before the formal presentation by the groups to Module Leader.TYPE OF ASSESSMENT =VIVA-Voce based

Each group will be called for a viva-voce based interactive session by the Module Leader in the classroom.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: The viva-voce shall begin from 10:00 am, Week 6. Excluding the group attending viva, NO student(s) will loiter around the corridor, nor are they supposed to be seen walking around faculty cabin/lounge till the entire viva of all the students are over. Meanwhile, you are suggested to report to Mr. Tushar/Mr. Pramod, Librarian and accommodate yourself in Library only until your turn arrives as group. All are supposed to attend viva wearing formal attires only preferably in Uniform. You are free to move around these highlighted spots during short breaks and lunch hour only. This is purposefully being instructed to ensure our overall coordination, professionalism and class decorum in completing the whole assessment, smoothly and effectively.
