Assignment 4: Write a Story About a Sad Princess

Open the "StoryStarter" Template

Open the Author folder.

Double click Story Starter.

Click View and select Edit Document.

Click Borders and Shading on the Quick Access Toolbar.

Click the Page Border tab. Click the Art arrow and then click the first border in the list.

story about a sad princess using

the story starter.

Watch the Preview window to see how the border will look.

Click the Art arrow. Press the DOWN ARROW on the keyboard to look at other borders.

When you find a border that you like, click OK.

Make the Title Page

Click on the words Type Story Title.

Type to add a title for your story.

Click beside the words Written by.

Type Student Name.

Click beside the words Illustrated by.

Type Student Name.

What is a good name for your story?

The title should tell about the story.

Follow the instructions to add your name and the title to the title page.

Remember to press and hold the

SHIFT key to make a capital letter.

View page 2.

In the story area of the page, click on the words why is the princess sad?

Type a sentence that tells why the princess is sad.

How Does the Princess Solve the Problem?

View page 3.

In the story area of the page, click on the words How did she solve her problem?

Type a sentence that tells how she solved her problem.

Start each sentence with a

Capital letter. End each

sentence with a period.

If the words will not fit in the story

area, you can change the font size

using Decrease Font Size in the Font

group on the Home tab.

If you have time, make the words in the

story look great using commands in the

Font group on the Home tab.

Save the Story

Click Save on the Quick Access Toolbar.

Go to the place where you save your work. (Ask your teacher how to do this)

Change the File name: from Story Starter to The Sad Princess (or the name you choose

for your story).

Click Save.

Exit Microsoft Word

Click the Exit Word command to close Microsoft Word.

Questions about the Fairy Tale

1. Put a checkmark beside the parts of the story that were in your fairy tale.

The story begins with "Once upon a time."

The story takes place in a "magical kingdom" or "in a land far far away."

The story takes place "a long time ago."

The story has characters that solve a problem or overcome evil.

The story has a happy ending.

The story ends with "Happily ever after."

2. Put a checkmark beside the things that were like the characters in The Frog Prince.

Heroes are brave, kind, clever, and friendly.

Heroes are the youngest child or have no family.

People are turned into animals.

Characters do kind deeds.

Characters are royalty such as kings, queens, princes, or princesses.

Characters make magic wishes.

Evil characters are witches, giants, ogres, dragons, stepmothers, and scary

creatures.

Magical helpers are godmothers, talking animals, or wizards.

Characters use magic objects or have special powers.
