What is the purpose of film magazines?

• The purpose of film magazines is to influence people into wanting to watch films but also it is aimed at big movie fans who enjoy watching films and are not passive of mainstream films. They also enable people to understand more about the film industry in terms of how a film is made. This educates the audience and allows them to have a better understanding of how films are made.

• They are used when films are being marketed a good film magazine can attract a wider audience (globally) and can result in a mass audience.

Where are films available?• Film magazines are usually available in book stores such as

Waterstones. However because the internet has become such an active process about knowing things around the world magazines can be found online by downloading applications or even finding them in a PDF form on the internet.

What is the typical size for magazines?

• The main standard magazine size is usually 8 3/8” x 10 7/8.

• However depending on how you access the magazine it may come in a different size online due to how you access it.

How are magazine covers attractive to the audience? Does the attraction

differ than that of the film?

• Magazine covers can possibly attract a wide audience because it enables the audience to have a better understanding of the film process and the hard work and effort put towards the film. It can also give the audience an insight on how the marketing works.

What are the conventions of magazine covers?

Main Image

Both magazines’ main images consist of mid shots with less detail in the background. This gives the celebrity more of a focus meaning that they are the most important image.

Both have a direct gaze, this allows the audience to feel more engaged.

Mast Head

Both magazines have outstanding head masts in order to allow the readers to see the company name of the magazine.

Feature Article

The feature article is usually based around the around from the main image.

Cover Lines

Cover lines portray the rest of the other articles within a magazine and sometimes can have a catchy font and the text standing out in a different colour. This attracts the audience because it enables to understand the different aspects included within the magazine and they judge whether it is of their interest.

Colour Palette

The mast head is usually in bold and in a different colour. This enables the mast head to stand out.

The colour of the text is usually dependable however sometimes some text needs to stand out so there is a dramatic colour change within text.

Similarities and differences between magazines

• Some magazines have a limited amount of text for example a dance magazine. This is because the main image is usually a long shot a should be the main focus.

• The colour palette can have an effect because some text becomes more outstanding than others.

• Most magazines have the direct gaze depending on what the magazine is based on and who it is aimed at.

What do some magazine covers prioritize?

• The magazine cover very important because the audience need to distinguish which magazine it is and what its based on. This may also be beneficial to the institution. The main image is also important because some audiences may be huge fans of the celebrity on the front cover so this allows the magazine to reach a wide audience. The feature article is another important aspect because it allows the audience to know what is featured within the magazine other than the main image.
