PROTOCOLS - BROADBAND What is Broadband? Broadband is a high capacity transmission that uses a wide range of frequencies.

How do we use Broadband? In everyday life we use broadband to connect our devices to the internet.

3G AND 4G What is 3G? 3G is a mobile communication standard that allows multiple electronic devices such as mobiles, computers and tablets to wirelessly access the internet.

What is 4G? 4G is the fourth generation of wireless technology on mobile phones (4G is faster than 3G).

How do we use these? When we use our mobiles it allows us to connect to the internet without a Wifi signal.

METHOD’S – EMAIL What is an Email? Emailing is a messaging distributor, it sends information/messages that has been sent from one computer/phone to another computer/phone via network.

How do we use Email? We use email by sending and/or receiving messages via network.

INSTANT MESSAGING (IM) What is IM? An IM is short for ‘instant message’, an instant message is sent via the internet that shows up on the other persons screen as soon as it is sent.

How do we use IM? Throughout the day most of us use Imessage (if you have an Iphone or Apple device) to communicate as it is free and quick, however there are many other apps people use such as Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

SMS & MMS What is SMS? SMS stands for ‘Short Message Service’, this is also known as ‘text message’ – SMS is the standard way to message other people.

What is MMS? MMS is an abbreviation of ‘Multi-Media Service’ – this is a standard way to communicate and share multi-media content.

How do we use these services? We allow the exchange of messages using over 160 characters (words)

BLOG’S What is this? A blog is a regularly updated website typically run by an individual.

How do we use them? Blogs allow individuals to express their thoughts and feelings through what they post.

WIKIS What is this? A Wiki is a database created by a community of users who can edit information.

How do we use them? It allows people to read information and update it if nessasary.

CHAT GROUPS What is this? A chat group is a feature on certain social websites that provide users to be able to talk in ‘real time’.

How do we use these? Via apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, Instagram and Snapchat.

SERVICES - WWW What is WWW? WWW stands for the World Wide Web.

How do we use it? We use it at the start of a web address.

WEB 3.0 What is web 3.0? Web 3.0 is the evolution of the web as a web extension of web 2.0.

How do we use it? When you search for something specific the web gives you options and you click on the links.
