ANNUAL REPORT -2014 ASSISI DEEPTHI ORGANIZATION FOR REHABILITATION (ADO R) is a voluntary organization, which has been working for the persons affected by leprosy (PAL) since August 2001.ADOR started community, based rehabilitation program on 2nd April 2002, to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to the persons with disability .The project cover 160 villages in Raichur Taluk and a Municipal town. The project aiming at providing equal opportunity to protect and promote the human rights of people with disability ( PWD )and person affected with leprosy ( PAL ) having in mind their total integration to the main streams of the society. The project implement CBR program net working with GO’S &NGO’S in various rehabilitation areas in it operation. The project have been Rehabilitated them in different aspects such as medical, Educational, Social, Lively hood and Empowerment aspects, individually as well as small groups. Project conducted seminars, workshops, health camps, nutrition camps, assessment camps, Community meetings, and awareness programs for PAL, PWD, family and communities etc. Conduct training for the staffs, volunteers and self help group’s members to strengthen the group and to be united to fight for their rights. Conducted and mobilizing awareness program on right based approach and empower the communities. Build the capacity of the disabled people’s organization. And help the PWD to become an active member in the in the self help group and in the society.

leprosy and persons with disabilities promoting special attention towards the needs of more vulnerable children and women.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

� To support stakeholders to meet the basic needs and enhance the quality life of people with disabilities and their families by facilitating access to the health, education, livelihood and social sectors.

� To encourage stakeholders to facilitate the empowerment of people with disabilities and PAL and their families by promoting their inclusion and participation in development and decision-making processes.

� To strengthen and develop the SHG’S and supporting the marginalized to acces

their entitlements.

� To rehabilitate and support for women with leprosy and severe and profound

disabilities.

� To involve the persons with leprosy in self care groups and self help groups.

OVERVIEW

Project surveyed 160 villages and town 4214 PWD and PAL were identified and motivated .project conducts awareness program in the villages and schools, project is having PWD SHG in the different villages and town. Projects empower the women to motivate about disability and its prevention. And also their SHG have formed .project help the women and children to get their rights .project collaborate with other NGO and GO. Follow up services, medical intervention, educational facilities and economic supports were provided for PWD, PAL, and their children. The project focused during the year 2014 specially on addressing the issues of PAL and PWD especially in women and children with severe disability in different angles. Project made PWD and PAL as active contributions to the CBR program by making policies, taking decisions, leadership and implementing CBR by helping each other to get government benefits. Awareness programs, trainings, workshops and seminars for PWD and their families. Workshops on self care for the PAL and school based programs etc are conducted.

PROGRAMME DETAILS HEALTH REHABILITAION The project staffs give awareness about the good health for healthy life. Importance of giving vaccination, medical care, anti-natal care,prenatal,postnatal cares etc were explained in all the villages. Also given awareness about leprosy, disability, self care, ulcer care, importance of nutritious food etc. prevention of secondary disability through self care camps and co coordinating assessment camps for aids and appliances and disability certificate. New case identification 67 new PWD’S are identified by the staff through regular field visit and re survey in the remote villages of the taluk. The new cases are assed and planned program. The family members are motivated by the project staffs. Help them to get identity card, PHP, aids and appliances and help them to have SHG group in the villages. Drop out school children are re-admitted to the school. And few are sent for the higher education. Health awareness & health camps 5 health camps were conducted and given treatment. And skin camps are arranged to identify the new leprosy cases and to reach medical facilities to the remote village. Project conducted ulcer care and self care awareness program and eye screening for the PAL. Health talk conducted 89 villages. Follow up and ulcer care Medical interventions have been carried out 78 villages by the project staff to improve the health condition of PWD and PAL. Ulcer care has been taught to the PAL. As a result the PALs are able to do the dressing by themselves and avoid further complication. Physiotherapy Physiotherapy is being done to 93 clients in 79 villages to improve their mobility, strengthening and stretching of the muscles. After doing regular physiotherapy 11 clients are improved mobility.

ADLS The staffs are giving ADLS training to 102 clients for independent life in the family. 71clients are improved their daily living skills. Speech therapy 7 speech and hearing children are improved their speech. And 3 are gone to Bellary for the speech therapy. They are able to speak fluently. Surgery 8 re-constructive surgeries are done for the PAL with the help of the DLO. And they are improved their mobility. And 13 surgeries like club foot, cleft lip are done in Tirupathy hospital for the PWD. MCR Chapels 78 pairs of MCR chapels are given to the PAL with the support of the DLO. Now they are able to walk freely and avoid further complications and ulcer. Nutrition camp 6 nutrition camps are conducted for the pregnant ladies and differently able people. Educational rehabilitation

Encourage the PWD children and parents to admit their children in the schools. Educating the community on health, hygiene, nutrition, pre and post natal care, care of infants, babies ,children, girls, and the elderly, to dispel myths and superstitions regarding disabilities and accessing initiatives provided by the government. Providing books, fees and uniforms for the poor PWD.The children with disability who score high marks in the SSLC and PUC level were not going for further studies because of their economic back ground. LIVELY HOOD REHABILITATION Orientation and mobility and vocational training for PWD are given to enable them to live independently and work in the society. Awareness is given through posters, CDS, videos, audio cassettes case studies, booklets and other materials about disability ACT. It helps the PWD to approach the government to get their rights and schemes. The disabled are helped economically by project and government for income generating activities. The project helps the disabled to get the maximum benefits from the government and other non-governmental organization. Enabling people to accesses lively hood options such as housing, bank loans, pensions etc. Identifying and referring candidates for skill training. The project guide qualified young PAL & PAL for competitive exams. SOCIAL REHABILITATION In collaboration with the NGO’S and GO the project conducts seminars, training, workshop etc. for the PWD groups and DPO to improve their knowledge, skills and lifestyle. Also celebrate national program, public functions etc. conducting street play actions songs in the villages about disability, leprosy, malnutrition and social issues. Project is identifying candidates and improves their skills in arts and culture. Celebrations like international women’s day, republic and Independence Day, children’s day, world disabled etc are celebrated in different villages and headquarters. EMPOWERMENT

To empower the PWD and women the self help group has been formed and given training to strengthen the group and individuals. Formation of self help groups of disabled persons is encouraged through a process of raising awareness, building their confidence, self-esteem and their capacity to organize themselves in to groups. These groups act as a forum for persons with disability to get together for mutual support, get recognition as a group, to discuss their needs and rights and schemes. And DPO and the project are supporting them to get all the schemes and loans. And encourage them to come forward to fight for their right. Training is given to bring about attitude and behavioral change to empower persons with disability, raise awareness on disability issues, provide relevant information’s and work for their i nclusion in all the activities and programs. And collaborate with other NGO’S and GO’S. Persons with different disabilities are assisted to get the medical rehabilitation needs and assistive devices through various organizations and institution that are providing these services.

1 . CASE STUDY New life in Nabi Hussian Nabi Hussian 35 yrs s/o Kajasab palkamdoddi village in Raichur TK born as second son in his family .His parents did not send him for study . He was working as collie in deferent villages Once he was going for work he met with an accident ant lost his right hand and his family was in great sorrow and in poverty. He has got two children and his wife also is speech and hearing impairment .While visiting the village the project staff visited his house and motivated him to get the Govt benefits like PHP, Bus pass and motivated them to form SHG in their village He took initiative to form a PWD SHG called SRE MARUTHI PWD SHG in Palkamdoddi village from the PHP he is able to save 100 Rs per month and the SHG is running well from the savings he took 20000/- Rs as loan put a chicken shop in his village per 20 kg chicken he sales and it is only chicken shop in his village and it is running well. Now he saves 400 /- Rs per month as savings and 400/-Rs as loan interest . And now He and his family is very happy and grateful to the project and appreciating its service to the marginalized 2. Case study Remarkable change in Shivsppa’s life A boy called Shivappa s/o Pakkeerappa born in Sulthanpur village in Raichur TK . When he was studing in 6th standard he is affected by polio and his Rt leg become weak and he could not walk properly . He has got two sisters and his parents are famers and depend up on rain for the cultivation . While doing the village visit The Assisi Ador staff identified Shivappa and motivated his parents to send him to the school regularly and explained about the Govt benefits for education and supported Shivappa to get PHP , Bus pass and Scholarship for his study . He studied up to 6th in his native school and joined in Kalmala High school for 7th to 10 which is 7 kilometer away from his village . By the support of the project he did his PUC, DED and BED and now he got a Job as a VRW in J .Venkitapur Panchayat and he is incharge of 6 villages for the well being of the

differently able ones of the that panchayat Now he has got good dignity and respect in the family and in the society .He and his parents and the Society are admiring the project and its service to the humanity mainly to bring the deprived section to the main stream of the society.

Project management and hierarchical structure, roles and Responsibilities PROJECT HOLDER -Timely action, supervise the activity and accounting CBR CO-ORDINATOR --co-ordinate overall programs, arrange the training, meeting, visiting offices, collaboration with other NGO’S report making ,help the workers to do the activities , and preparing report for the project. CBR WORKERS ---- 4 -visiting villages and do the follow up and attending SHG meeting, maintaining the records, taking clients to get other benefits DOCTOR – seeing the patients and attend the health camps, prescribe the medicine and motivating

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES OBSERVED IN THE PWD & PAL AND F AMILY

• PWD and PAL are cooperating with the project in advocating their rights. • NGO’S are supporting each other for fight for the right. • PWD&PAL’S are able to plan out the program and are taking decisions for their better life. • PWD’S & PAL’S are come together to form SHG and together they fight for their problems. • PWD’S & PAL’S family also come together in the main stream and come out from their social

stigma. • The quality of their life style is improved in their personal life and the community life. • The PWD&PAL’S family and community are approaching the project for information’s

suggestions, guidance and various helps. • Women SHG’S are ready to come together for taking decisions and interested to arrange

programs. ACHEIVEMENTS

� Conducted 2 assessment camps for disabled to get aids and appliances and distributed 35 different kinds of aids and appliances from the project, government and local donors. It helps the disabled to move around and go for the work and improved their life style.

� School awareness program .community awareness program, film shows, street play, wall writing exhibitions about leprosy and disability general hygiene are conducted in 11 villages and 40 percentages of the people are benefited from it and has changed the negative attitude

towards Leprosy and disability. So the number of voluntary reporting has increased about leprosy and disability.

� 3 clubfoot 1 cleft lip 2 Locomotors disability are undergone the corrective surgery in different hospital and improved their mobility and they are grateful to the project.

� 6 Leprosy patients are undergone the re- constructive surgery with the help of the project and they are able to work for their daily living.

� 153 MCR chapels are given to the PAL by the project and the DLO. � The project provided educational support for 10 PWD and PAL children, given books,

uniform, fees, and support for the higher education. And two PWD are got job after the higher education

� 11 Drop out PWD children and other school admission and hostel admission are done by the project and 4 of them are doing their higher education and 2 of them are got job in different government offices.

� Summer holiday camps, essay competitions, cultural program and sports meets were conducted for the school children mingled with the disabled children it helped the PWD to feel that they are one among them and improved their talents and skills.

� Celebrations like independence day, disabled day, world women’s day , anti-leprosy day, children’s day, etc. have been celebrated in the project and as well as in villages and town. It was good publication to know about the day and getting good support from the people and the heads of the different government departments.

� Conducted street play, cultural programs, sports meets for PWD, PAL, and women groups. It helped them to come forward forgetting about their weakness and disability.

� 2 tailoring machine were given to the PAL and 4 are given to the PWD girls. Now they are able to earn some money for their daily living and income generating.

� 2PWD and 2 PAL are supported by the project to start petty shop and cycle repairing shop. It helped them and their family to live independently. The projects helped 4PAL and 3 PWD for sheep raring and their economical status and live good life in their family and the society.

� 47 PWD SHG and 27 women SHG are able to fight for their right and able to approach government officials to get any benefits from the government, bank and gramapanchayath. And some of the groups are able to solve their family problem, marriage conflict and stopped the abuse of women by drunkards and helped the victim to seek legal help etc. and their small saving are very helpful for any emergency needs.

� 13 PWD SHG and 16 women SHG received subsidy loan from the gramapanchayath to improve their income generating. Such as milking cows, bullock carts, sheep raring, vegetables and fruits selling etc. And some people are able to live independent life in the family.

LESSONS LEARNT

� It is easy to give awareness to the people through PWD and women SHG. � Net working with the community and other NGO’S participation is one of the easiest ways to

KEY ISSUES

1. The project given importance to find out all strokes and CP clients to give physiotherapy and

strengthen their muscles to move by themselves without the support of other people. 2. Project along with the DPO and PWD groups worked hard to eliminate corruption towards the PWD

and PAL that is bribing, PHP, identity cards given to the normal people and not giving PHP regularly etc.

3. The project staffs visit each PWD’S house giving timely support and guidelines. 4. The project is trying to start more PWD SHG’S in the villages.

FUTURE PLAN 1. Formation of PWD&PAL SHG in all the villages 2. Strengthening the Disabled Peoples Organization. 3. Rehabilitate sever and profound disabled especially the women with severe and profound

disability. 4. Special care and support for cerebral palsy children through physiotherapy. 5. Rehabilitate the mentally challenged persons through counseling and proper treatment.

6. Follow up service for the entire person affected with leprosy

MONITERING AND EVALTION Project has comprehensive and effective monitoring system like monthly review evaluations of filed activities, record keeping .Closely monitoring with clients, work plan for each worker are followed. Monthly, half yearly, quarterly and annual reports are recording in the project head quarter. Project manager and coordinator visit the field frequently. coordinator evaluating each workers field activities guiding and giving suggestions and ideas for the better and effective running of the project. AIFO Bangalore gives suggestion and corrections during the year for smooth and better running of the project.

SUSTAINABILITY

Project has been sustaining the CBR program in the target area; CBR groups were formed and strengthened for this purpose. The DPO is strengthened by project with different trainings, vocational trainings, and income generating activities. PWD’S and PAL’S are come forward to form SHG in the villages, and invested money in the bank for cultural program and national celebrations.DPO is collecting local funds and celebrating functions and conducting camps, meetings etc. Taluk level and district level DPO is taking much interest and hard working to fight for their right.
