A note from Dick Walser...I have been involved with Angus cattle all my life. I showed Angus in

4-H as a young boy as did my brother and three sisters. After college at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, I started farming in Blue Earth county with my Dad.

I attended A. I. School during my college years so after graduation I started my own small Angus herd. My Dad always told me its is easier to have a few good cows than a large herd of just cows. He was very critical of structural correctness in cattle.

My wife, Kim, and I have been married for 36 years. We have three children, Clay - 32, Kara - 30, and Cullen - 25. They have also grown up with Angus cattle, 4-H, and Open class shows. All were active in the Minnesota Jr. Angus Association and we attended numerous National Junior Angus shows across the nation during their showing years. All three kids have graduated from college and now have jobs in the agri-cultural sector.

We have consigned cattle to the MN State Angus Sale and Sioux Em-pire Farm Show for many, many years. I was on the Minnesota Angus Association Board of Directors for 10 years, seeing may changes in the operation and location of the State Sale. While on the board, we tried to adjust the sale to the wants of the members and consignors. As the economy changes and the nature of sales change, advertising, Online bidding, etc.; it makes it a challenge to continue some years.

I appreciate being honored this year and I am very grateful for my family, friends and cattle enthusiast I have met over the years.

It is heartwarming to see young people involved in the MN Jr. An-gus Association now becoming MN Angus Association members and continuing in the Angus business. I feel it is the people that make the Association strong!
