1. DESIGN: Dimensions and tolerance shown are required for proper installation of car
wash equipment. Structure shown is suggested construction. The Architect and/or
Engineer of record shall verify that the structure shown is appropriate for this
particular project and shall alter/modify design as required to satisfy the
requirements of the project.
2. SOIL: Design shown assumes that the soil conditions at the site are satisfactory and
have adequate bearing capacity for the loads to be imposed, with minimal differential
settlement of the trench, slab, and car wash structures. If it is found that the soil on
the site contains organics, and cannot be sufficiently compacted or has other
deleterious properties, the trench shall be redesigned for support on a piling
foundation. The Architect and/or Engineer of record shall verify the soil conditions at
the site.
3. CONVEYOR TRENCH CONSTRUCTION: Excavate trench to a point at or just below the
bottom of trench slab shown. Slope excavation to match slope of trench. Compact
soil under trench in accordance with soil Engineer's recommendation. Form and pour
trench bottom slab coordinating placement of vertical reinforcement with placement
of block so that vertical reinforcement is centered in the block cells. Lay block and fill
cells and tie columns with concrete to a point just below the slab over pour shown.
After adequate curing time, back fill and compact clean soil behind trench walls in
accordance with Soils Engineer's direction. Complete trench by forming and pouring
conveyor shelf, correlator pit bottom, and surrounding slab.
4. SLAB FINISHES: All car wash vehicular slabs shall be finished with rough non-skid
surface (Broom Finish). Brush lines in finish shall be parallel to the direction of slope.
5. APPROACH & EXIT SLABS: Concrete approach and exit slabs extending a minimum of
20 feet from either end of the trench are required. These slabs shall be aligned with
and level along the direction of travel through the car wash. Slight sloping of the
slabs perpendicular to the direction of travel to allow drainage is acceptable.
6. CONCRETE STRENGTH: All concrete shall be normal weight unless noted otherwise
and shall attain a 28 day compressive strength of f'c = 3000 psi.
7. MIXES: All concrete mixes shall be designed by the supplier to meet the
requirements set forth herein.
8. SLUMP: Unless noted or approved otherwise, the maximum slump allowable for
concrete shall be four (4) inches. If higher slump is desired to increase workability,
the Contractor should consult with the concrete supplier about using a concrete
additive that will increase slump without increasing the water-cement ratio of the
concrete. The contractor shall verify that any concrete additives shall not have any
detrimental effects on embedded items, finishes indicated on the plans, or likely
future finishes.
9. VIBRATION: All cast-in-place concrete shall be consolidated by means of mechanical
vibrators. The Contractor shall use properly trained personnel to assure that the
concrete is not over or under vibrated, resulting in over or under consolidation of the
concrete.
10. FINISHING: Finishing of concrete shall be in accordance with ACI 301 (Latest
Edition).
11. CURING: Beginning immediately after placement, concrete shall be protected from
premature drying, excessively hot or cold temperatures, mechanical injury, and shall
be maintained with minimal moisture loss at a relatively constant temperature for the
period necessary for hydration of the cement and hardening of the concrete. The
materials and methods of curing shall conform to ACI 301.
12. REINFORCING STEEL STRENGTH: All conventional reinforcing steel shall have a
minimum yield strength of 60,000 psi and shall conform to ASTM designation A-615
Grade 60.
13. STRENGTH OF MASONRY UNITS: All hollow concrete masonry units shall be grade
N-1 normal weight units that conform to the "Standard Specifications for Hollow Load
Bearing Concrete Masonry Units" ASTM C-90 (Latest Edition). The minimum
compressive strength of the hollow concrete masonry units at 28 days shall be 2,500
psi (net area) with a minimum compressive strength of the masonry assembly f'm =
1,500 psi.
14. MORTAR: All masonry shall be laid with full mortar coverage of the face shells and
webs and full end joints using type M or S mortar. All mortar used in the hollow
concrete masonry unit walls shall conform to ASTM 270 (Latest Edition).
15. CONCRETE GROUT: All filled cells of masonry units shall be filled with concrete grout
having a minimum compressive strength of 2,000 psi and a maximum slump of 9".
16. BLOCK PLACEMENT: All cells to be filled with concrete shall be as straight as possible.
The block should not be staggered so as to constrict the flow of concrete in any way.
This shall be done by strategically placing pieces of block vertically between filled
cells in non-modular masonry openings.
17. STRUCTURAL STEEL SHAPES: All structural steel hot rolled shapes and plates shall be
ASTM A36 with a minimum yield stress of 36 ksi. All steel shall conform to AISC
Standards and Specifications for the Design, Fabrication, and Erection of Structural
Steel.
18. BOLTS: All bolts shall conform to "Specifications for Low Carbon Steel Externally and
Internally Threaded Standard Fasteners" ASTM A307 or "High Strength Bolts for
Structural Steel Joints, Including Suitable Nuts and Plain Hardened Washers" ASTM
A325.

· 1Refer to third-party equipment documentation to determine compatibility and wiring requirements.
· 2Loop wire is a continuous run with a variable number of turns.
· 3Network communication cable is required for lanes using a Magnetic gate.
· 4Merge loop redundancy wiring is not required if gates are Ethernet controlled. However, if used, it can alternatively be routed through
communications conduit D to each XPT, eliminating extra conduits between XPTs.
· 5For PTT and TTT, power is recommended, but currently only required when installing FastPass, CarPics, or an Ext. Prox Loop.
· 6FastPass systems shipped after 5/16/2011 include the FastPass enclosure with lights and require either the (25') CA06000 or (120') CA06050 pre-
terminated cable.
· 7The CarPics monitor may be powered by the attended terminal power if installed in close enough proximity and an outlet is available.
· ⁸This is the legacy discrete I/O wiring from the XPT or Gate Control Interface (GCI) to the gate and is not recommended. Ethernet control of gate is
recommended instead by using Conduit C from terminal to gate.
· 9The red conduit shown between the external prox loop and the XPT or FastPass External Prox Loop Interface Assembly should be used only when
there is no Ethernet controlled Magnetic gate in that lane. The preferred method for wiring the external prox loop, is to wire it to the Ethernet
controlled Magnetic gate
· All wires must be run and terminated prior to DRB Systems'
scheduled installation.
· All wiring must be installed according to local electrical code.
· Metal conduits are recommended for all above-ground installations
to prevent communication errors and maximize protection against
lighting surges.
· If PVC conduit is used above ground, all communication cables
(Identifiers C, D, G, I, K, L) must be shielded with the shield drain
tied to earth ground at only one end.
· Regardless of conduit type, power and Class 1 signal wiring should
maintain a minimum separation of 12 inches from Class 2 signal and
communications wiring where the conduits run parallel for more than
6 feet. This spacing is highly critical near conduits carrying motor
and high voltage lighting power wiring.
· The site must adapt the conduit runs to fit the site layout as well as
the specific equipment used.
· Refer to the XPT Installation Manual for further installation details.
· Each XPT should be wired to a dedicated 8-amp breaker.
· Loop lead-in conduit must be PVC to prevent loop interference.
· Cat 5/6 wiring not to exceed 315 wire feet.
· Refer to “Communications Wall Jack Wiring Package” and “Jack and
Cable Installation Guidelines” for Attended Terminal wiring details.
· Conduit trade sizes are typically specified according to equipment
connection size. If using other size conduit, reducer or enlarger
fittings may be necessary at equipment connections.

Merge Loop Placement and Sizing
A merge loop may not be necessary in the following
situations:
* 1 XPT lane installations, with no other lanes
* 1XPT lane installations, when gates are not used in
non-XPT (attended) lanes
* 2 XPT lane installations, if the lane geometry prevents
cars from passing each other before entering the wash
tunnel
The merge loop must be placed so that a car is detected
before it has completely left the gate loop, and continues to
be detected until it reaches a choke point, where itcannot
be passed by other cars, This ensures that each car
receives the wash services purchased.
Place the leading edge of the merge loop no farther than
12' past the trailing edge of the gate loops, and size
according to lane geometry so that cars remain detected by
at least one of the loops until entering the choke point.
When determining the merge loop size, note that a loop is
able
to detect vehicles at a height of approximately
2
3
the
shortest side (e.g. 2'6'' x 6' gate loop detection height = 1' 8'')
Each loop should not exceed 200 square feet fort reliable
vehicle detection.

Loop wire details:
* Use 16 or 18 AWG stranded, tinned copper wire with cross-
linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation rated for 600v.
* Loops may be installed in a saw cut or paved over. If paving
over the loop, it is recommended that a preformed loop
designed for this installation method is used. If installing in
asphalt, a high temperature, preformed, pave over loop should
be used. It is available from www.leadinsystems.com.
* Do not use general purpose building wire.
* The loop must be a placed within 12'' of AC electrical
wiring.
* Loop wire, backer rod, and sealant are available from lead in
systems www.leadinsystems.com.
* Twist all loop lead -in wires 6 turns per foot from edge of active
loop to termination on loop detector
