1 .The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize (“The Waterhouse”)
is awarded by the South Australian Museum Foundation
Incorporated (“South Australian Museum Foundation”). All artists
are encouraged to enter including international artists. Staff from
the South Australian Museum, the South Australian Museum
Foundation and people involved with the administration or judging
of the Waterhouse are not eligible to enter.
2 .The subject for “The Waterhouse” is natural science, which for
the purpose of the competition deals with our natural world and
the sciences associated with it. For example; biology, geology,
astronomy, chemistry and physics. It also includes natural history.
3 .For postal entries only, artists must submit a CD containing one
colour image of their work, per category. Each image shall be of
high quality and approximately A4 size. Files should be saved
in JPEG or TIFF format. Accompanying this, the artist must
submit a completed and signed Entry Form and a non-refundable
administration fee. CDs will not be returned.
4 .Entries must be posted or delivered to The Waterhouse Natural
Science Art Prize, South Australian Museum, North Terrace
Adelaide SA 5000, or uploaded to www.thewaterhouse.com.au
no later than 5pm ACST, Friday 10 May 2013. Faxed or emailed
entries will not be accepted.
5 .Each artist may submit one work only per category, completed
after January 2012.
6 .Works in Categories A and B must not exceed 2m × 2m (including
frame). Artworks must be supplied ready for hanging: flat D rings
are preferred.
7 .Works in Category C must fit through a standard door when
assembled (0.9m × 2m). Works must not have one dimension
greater than 2m in length. This will include any supports if
supplied. South Australian Museum Foundation may supply or
arrange certain display furniture at its discretion.
8 .Entrants in the Youth Art Prize must be aged 16–25 at the time of
close of entries. Maximum one entry per person. Entries in this
category must fit the criteria of category A, B or C. An entrant in
the Youth Art Prize cannot also enter in the major prize categories
and is not eligible for the overall Waterhouse Natural Science
Art Prize. However, an artist of any age is welcome to enter the
main prize categories instead of the Youth Art Prize if they prefer.
Entrants in the Youth Art Prize are eligible for the People’s Choice
Award.
9 .The judges will select finalists’ works for exhibition from the
image provided and each finalist shall be notified accordingly.
Inclusion of finalists in the exhibition and the manner of exhibiting
of each included work shall be at the sole discretion of the South
Australian Museum Foundation.
