NATURAL SCIENCE
NERVOUS SYSTEM
The Nervous system control andcoordinates body activities. The brainand the spinal chord form the centreof the nervous system. Nerves carryimpulses from the sense organs tobrain. It is then that we feel the senseof sight, hearing, touch, taste etc
BRAIN PARTS
It is the largest part of the brain. Itconsists of millions of neurons. It isthe seat of sensation, memory, intelligence, thinking, reasoning, imagination etc
Cerebrum
It is a nerve centre seen below thecerebrum. It controls thetransmission of impulses to thecerebrum and from the cerebrum
Thalamus
The hypothalamus is situated justbelow the Thalamus. The centersthat regulate the sense of hunger, thirst and body temperature arefound here
Hypothalamus
It is the lowest part of the brain. Ithas nerve centers that controlheart beat, respiratory movementsetc. The spinal cord is acontinuation of this part
Medulla Oblongata
The spinal chord is thecontinuation of themedulla oblongata and isplace inside the vertebralcolumn. It extends up tothe lower end of thevertebral column
Spinal Chord
Functions of The Spinal Chord
Spinal Chord Transmits the impulses reaching from different parts of the body to brain. It transmits the impulses from Cerebrum to various parts of the body. It acts as the centre of reflex action
Nerves
Nerves are spreadeverywhere in the body. They carry impulses fromthe sense organs to thebrain and spinal cord andvice versa
The control and co-ordination of thebody activities are performed by thenervous system. The cortex in humanis larger than that of any other animalsand it contain more nervous than thebrain of any other animals. This is thereason that makes man superior to allcreatures.
