At Home Activities after Preschool to Develop Literary Skills in your Child Preschool children need to develop a love for literature because children’s literature plays a crucial role in the mental and emotional development of a child. Reading books can transport your child to anywhere in the world to learn about new things, like space, culture, plants, or anything that interests your preschooler. Literature can teach your preschool child about morals and the appropriate way to act in certain situations. It can give them courage and help them overcome fears. Literature can unlock the world around them. Our preschool program in Fishhawk focuses heavily on literature in our Library and Literature Station. We believe that parents should continue to teach their children literature even after they pick the children up from our preschool program in Fishhawk. Here are some ways that you can teach your children literary skills: Read a bedtime story Every night, let your preschooler pick out a bedtime story for you two to read together. Make sure you read a new story each week to allow your child to learn new lessons and morals. We personally love the Berenstain Bears books for good social morals and lessons. Make up a story Teach your child about imagination and social morals by making up a story about one of his/her favorite characters, like a Disney or cartoon character. Have this character explore new things or face a fear with which you know your child is struggling. For example, if you child is afraid of the upcoming dentist appointment, make up a story about a favorite character overcoming his/her fear of the dentist. Then remind your child of that story before the appointment if he/she begins to feel afraid. To mix things up and teach your child to use his/her imagination, have your child create a story to tell you. Let your child pick the character and the setting and tell the story. You will learn a lot about the way your child thinks and interprets things by listening to the story that he/she creates. At Kids R Kids of Fishhawk , our preschool program is always searching for innovative ways to help your child grow and develop in a positive setting. ChildPreschool children need to develop a love for literature because children’s literature plays a crucial role in the mental and emotional development of a child.

Here are some ways that you can teach your children literary skills:

Read a bedtime story Every night, let your preschooler pick out a bedtime story for you two to read together. Make sure you read

a new story each week to allow your child to learn new lessons and morals. We personally love the Berenstain Bears books for good social morals and lessons.

Make up a story Teach your child about imagination and social morals by making up a story about one of his/her favorite

characters, like a Disney or cartoon character.
