Greetings!
Welcome to the 11th Annual Culpeper Air Fest on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 10am-4pm at the
Culpeper Regional Airport (rain date is Sunday, October 10, 2010)! This FREE event has something for
the entire family. Tour the County Airport, talk with the pilots about their planes and listen to the roar of
unique aircraft such as the Harrier and the B-25J Mitchell overhead. Aircraft, from restored antiques to
modern jets, will be on display, and additional car parking will be available.
You don’t want to miss these amazing flying displays:
● The Bealeton Flying Circus featuring their spectacular wing-walking event
● The return of the incredible SHAR, the only civilian-owned Harrier in the world, flown by Art Nalls
● The Culpeper Barnstormers● The FARM Club and their RC model airplanes including the ever popular-flying lawn mower (you’ve
got to see it to believe it!)● Kevin Russo and his magnificent T6
● Dr. Smoke and his red/white and blue smoke
● Our own Culpeper-based Charlie Schwenker and his super fast Extra 300
● Panchito, a North American B-25J Mitchell
Want to experience flight yourself? Then hop a ride for a fee in a vintage, open-air Waco biplane, piloted
by our own John Corradi.
Walk the lines of parked spectacular WarBirds, including the Percival Provost, a Royal Air Force Trainer
which you could win a ride in if chosen when you are entered in the raffle. Also, let us not forget the beautiful
Birds owned and operated by our based tenant the National Capitol Squadron.
The Culpeper County Parks & Recreation Department will have lots of neat demonstrations and arts and
crafts for the smaller aviators, and you’ll want to have your photo taken in an F-4 cockpit from Jet Pilot
Photos.
Our vendors will have lots of food available, so you won’t go hungry. We are working together to help
make your Aviation Dreams come to life.
We are pleased to have you as our guest, and wish to thank all the sponsors for their support of this
memorable annual event.
Sincerely,
Tanya Woodward, C.M.Manager, Culpeper Airport

craft developed in Czechoslovakia to meet requirements for
a “C-39” (C for cviný - trainer) during the 1960s to replace
the L-29 Delfin.

Ron Saglimbene (Dr. Smoke)
Ron Saglimbene (Sag) is Dr. Smoke and will display
the fast and maneuverable Siai Marchetti SF260
featuring a precision act of loops, Cubans, point
rolls and other aerobatic maneuvers.
You’ll be awed while the aircraft emits
red, white and green smoke.
Kevin Russo in his SNJKevin Russo will showcase his North American Aviation’s
“T-6, SNJ, Harvard” Texan, one of the most important
aircraft developed during the 1930s. As an advanced
trainer for the military, AT-6 for the Army, SNJ for the
Navy and Harvard for Canada, the aircraft through its
career has served as a trainer for instrument flight,
aerobatics, bombing and gunnery, and equipped with
a tail hook, as an aircraft for carrier qualifications.
Kevin is in his sixth year flying airshows with his SNJ-6/T-6
aircraft. His aircraft, a restored SNJ-6, was built in 1944
and delivered to Pensacola NAS FL in August 1945. Kevin
purchased the aircraft 10 years ago and restored it back
to the Pensacola colors you see today. Kevin’s SNJ-6 is
thought to be the lowest time Texan around with only
3,000 hours.

Steve Nixon R22A member of the Board of Supervisors for the Western Fairfax
District, Steve will demonstrate the flying capabilities of his
Robinson R22 helicopter.
Mike Lakin Decathlon Lieutenant Colonel (Select) Mike Lakin (Callsign “Rudy”) flies
a Red and White 2004 Super Decathlon. A two-seat aircraft
capable of advanced aerobatics and airshow maneuvers, the
Decatholon is the most popular aerobatic training aircraft in
the US. Its an aircraft capable of speeds of over 200MPH and
has ultimate G limits of 9 positive Gs and 7 negative Gs.
Mike’s airshow routine consists of many of the maneuvers
that he taught to student Naval Aviators during his tour as a
flight instructor in Pensacola, Florida. Military student pilots
fly these maneuvers by themselves shortly after their initial
solo flight. Aerobatic flight training is designed to help student
pilots build their confidence, to improve their control of the aircraft, and to prepare them for later
air combat maneuver training....i.e. dogfighting or evasive maneuvering . The aerobatic maneuvers
are also a lot of fun!

Culpeper Model BarnstormersThe Culpeper Model Barnstormers will sponsor
today’s model airplane show featuring numer-
ous displays and performances from such clubs as
FARM, NVRC, PGCRC and the Windwalkers.
John Hunton, President of the newly organized
Culpeper Model Barnstormers, says the Model
Airplane show will consist of static displays (under
two tents) and a flying show. Stop by and view the
models ranging from the most basic to large scale multi-engined models. Performers will range in
age from teenagers to the 90s! The feature performer is international champion, Don Sczur.
Art Nalls, a retired Marine Lt. Col, pilot with
numerous hours flying the Harrier AV8-A and B
models, made his first public debut of the world’s
first-and only-civilian owned Harrier jump jet at the
2008 Culpeper Air Fest. He’s back this year with an
amazing flight demonstration of several high-speed
passes and the Harrier’s trademark hovering exhibi-
tion at about 100 feet AGL.
Art retired from the Marine Corps and started a
real estate development company, Nalls Develop-
ment and Investment, specializing in restoring and
developing the neglected areas of historic Washing-
ton, DC, such as Anacostia and South West Washington, DC. He returned to flying by joining the
Commemorative Air Force and became a flying sponsor of two of their aircraft. He now regularly
flies in an “Albatross” Czechoslovakian Advanced Jet Trainer and a 1939 Piper Cub L-4 “Grasshop-
per” aircraft powered by an original Continental 65 HP, 4-cylinder engine. He has flight time in
approximately 75 different type, model, and series of military and civilian aircraft in addition to the
“Harrier.” These include the B-52, C-141, C-130, A-7, A-37, T-38, F-4, F-5, F-15, and F-16, and
F-18. He was also NATOPS Qualified for a special flight test in the back seat of the F-14 “Tomcat.”

Navy test pilot with over 5500 flight hours in 75
different aircraft, over 2000 of which were in the
F-14 Tomcat. He led the developmental flight
tests of last models of the F-14, and logged 650
aircraft carrier arrested landings and combat
missions in the Mediterranean and Middle East.
He holds 27 military decorations, including the
Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. At
NASA, Joe piloted the last American crew mem-
ber to the Russian Mir space station in the orbiter Endeavour. He has flown the closest flying
maneuvers around an orbiting space station attempted in the history of space flight.
Larry Kelley in the Panchito, a North American B-25J MitchellLarry has nearly 5000 hours flying time
with over 3000 hours in Warbirds and
more than 1200 hours in the B-25.
An air show performer for the past 21
years, Larry has flown at 500+ air shows
and has been part of the Disabled
American Veterans (DAV) Aviation outreach program since its creation 7 years ago. In April,
Larry and his wife, Lorie Thomsen (also a Warbird pilot and logistics coordinator for the B-25)
assisted with the B-25 Tribute to the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders at the US Air Force Museum
in Dayton, OH. Some 5 years ago, Larry and Lorie started the Delaware Aviation Museum
Foundation. For a fee, you and your friends can experience a 30-minute during the Air Fest.
