Experience an eclectic program of music with influences of klezmer, jazz, and Asian harmonies. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 – 3PM SATORI AND SAKURA Celebrating their 20th anniversary, SATORI presents music for flute and piano by contemporary Japanese composers, plus traditional classical Japanese chamber music performed on koto, shamisen, and shakuhachi. SATORI musicians are pianist Martha Schrempel and Nora Suggs on flute and shakuhachi. Dr. Suggs, a master performer on the shakuhachi, will be joined by guest performers, Mutsumi Takamizu and Masumi Takamizu, on koto, shamisen, and voice. FEBRUARY 14, 2016 – 3PM A VALENTINE’S DAY TREAT! Juliette Herlin and Fei-Fei Dong, two-thirds of the brilliant, T he UUCLV presents a series of Sunday afternoon concerts showcasing local and regional musicians and the church’s exquisite Schimmel concert grand piano. All concerts are scheduled at 3 p.m. and will be followed by a “meet the artist” reception. Concerts will be held in the church’s second floor sanctuary (a stair glider is available). Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Juilliard-based Aletheia Trio, which wowed audiences last season, return to play favorite masterworks for cello and piano by Brahms, Schumann, Bridge, and Tchaikovsky. Bring someone you love! MARCH 13, 2016 – 3PM FOUR TOWERING MASTERPIECES Martin Soderberg, pianist of Swedish- Spanish descent, is a first prize winner of the 1985 “Pilar Bayona” International Piano competition and a winner at the 1988 Artistic International Auditions in NYC. He appears frequently as guest soloist with orchestras world wide. His program includes Beethoven’s Appassionata, Bach’s Partita No. 2 in C minor, Gaspard de la Nuit by Ravel and Sonata No.1 by Ginestera. APRIL 10, 2016 – 3PM JAZZ AT THE UUCLV Internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and composer David Leonhardt, with Paul Rostock on bass and Colby Inzer on drums, presents a concert of songs you know and love, and some new ones too!
