NOTICE OF REGULAR BOARD MEETING

Beginning in September, tennis clinics will be held for intermediate and beginner players every 2nd Tuesday night of the month at 7:00

p.m. at the Pinehurst Courts @ 20600 Atascocita Shores

Drive. All are welcome. If one is a junior tennis player in high school or just a tennis enthusiast wanting to build on their competitive game, this is the time to come and James will be instructing. Sue is willing to work with any of the younger children that just want to learn the game. Afternoons can be scheduled as the need arises. These clinics will address various techniques that most players struggle with during competitive matches. ACIA is encouraging all to become more involved with these awesome community resources to build upon the great community atmosphere here in Atascocita and also to get to know your neighbors who have the same interest. As the tennis clinics grow, additional nights can be scheduled. Individual clinics may be offered also and the Atascocita Shores facility @ 8810 Pine Shores Dr. will be available.

If you would like more information about the upcoming intermediate clinics, please contact James Longoria @ [email protected] or Sue Raymond for that beginner student @ [email protected].

ACIA HAPPENINGS

Gardening and yard care can give you satisfying results and beautiful landscapes. However, yard pests can be discouraging, even for the most committed gardener. Here are some quick tips to avoid pests: Irrigate efficiently; water infrequently but thoroughly, generally 1 inch once a week in the morning. Use native and adapted plants, which are better suited to the local environment and are more resistant to pests. Mow properly taking off no more than l/3 of the grass blade with each mowing. Choose natural or organic fertilizers, avoid overusing fertilizers, and encourage natural predators such as worms, ladybugs, certain beetles, mites, and birds.

Monitor for pests often to catch infestations early and determine if control is needed. Natural predators may make treatment unnecessary. Remember to always comply with your water system’s water-use restrictions and visit www.KeepCyFairBeautiful.org to access free “Take Care of Texas” publications!

THE “TAKE CARE OF TEXAS” GUIDE TO YARD CARE

MANAGING COMMON TEXAS YARD PESTS

Please sweep and bag all leaves, grass, pine needles, etc from the front of your own street. Do not allow these clippings in any of the drains. If each family will sweep and bag all the debris from the front of their own home, the problem is solved. All drains must remain clear of these items to avoid flooding.

Also, please be advised there is no duping allowed in the gully areas. Several have been fined for this.

These summer months have brought a tremendous increase in roadside trash. Our beautiful landscaped medians are replete with plastic bottles, food wrappers, chip bags, and other type of refuse. Littering is disrespectful to your neighbors and neighborhood. This littering is also costly because ACIA must pay our landscaping contractor to remove and dump this trash. Please be considerate of your neighbors and neighborhood. Don’t Litter!

This is in response to an article in July’s newsletter "Animal Concern from a Resident". Everyone should also be aware that we live in a wild-animal area. We live on Lakeshore Villa Drive on the lake (very close to the writer of the article), and my husband has trapped "visiting" possums and raccoons and relocated them to different areas. We have killed deadly snakes. Also, hawks are also very visible in our area and prey upon birds and small animals.

It is not uncommon for us to see duck and bird remains in our yard and boat dock. We had a terrifying incident a couple of weeks ago. We found a LOT of blood stains on our decking around the pool. Something had been killed and dragged around in our yard during the night! Perhaps it was someone's precious cat. We will never know.

In conclusion, we watch our own small dogs very carefully, especially at night, even within the confines of our fenced yard. To ensure the safety of your furry friends, please keep them INDOORS. Living outside is of much higher risk to the animals.
