The South East consists of the five counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford, fondly referred to by the ‘Irish’ as the ‘Sunny South East’. The region is famous for its vibrant towns, rural getaways, coastal villages and picturesque resorts, some of which we will see on this exceptional five day tour. Our base is Waterford, founded by the Viking traders in 914AD and the capital of the ‘Sunny South East’. It is Ireland’s oldest city with its medieval city walls, picturesque quayside, the thousand year old Reginald’s Tower and it is also perfectly located for you to enjoy a taste of the region on our three included excursions. Day One: From your local joining points we make our way to Fishguard on the magnificent Pembrokeshire coast for the afternoon crossing to Ireland arriving at our Waterford hotel in time for a ‘welcome punch reception’ and dinner. Day Two: After a hearty Irish breakfast our full day tour visits Kilkenny, once the capital of Ireland, and a well preserved medieval city. Our scenic route skirts the Blackstairs Mountain range, in County Carlow, which is a designated ‘Special Area of Conservation’ with breathtaking scenery. Day Three: We make our way towards historic Cobh from where more than 2.5 people emigrated to escape poverty and famine. We have also included a visit to the superb ‘Titanic Experience Cobh’ We continue to the City of Cork which, like Venice, has many bridges having been built on the River Lee – it’s a great place to explore! Day Four: Another scenic delight as we tour through the wonderful Wicklow Mountains, pausing at the stunning vista of Glendalough and the Wicklow Gap. County Wexford is a land of tranquility with sandy beaches, fertile pastures, isolated mountain ranges and ancient sites that all combine to make this a truly memorable excursion.
