THE FRENCH MEDITATOR JEAN BAUDRILLARD, referring to digital culture and the advances of modern technology, notes: The era of microscopisis, remote control and microprocessing of time, objects and pleasure has come. Video art is one of the many techniques and aesthetic innovations of digital culture, that transform the very essence of the subject and

the way it conceptualizes reality, overbalancing the conventional concepts of time and space. Apart from artistic expression and aesthetic

creation, it is also a complicated game of intellect, seizure of images and messages, which changes the conventional rules and stimulates

our intellectual and emotional universe.

Athens Video Art Festival attempts to promote this modern form of visual creation and oers a subversive experience of many senses

for the public, creating a game of reality and imagination and developing another way of understanding and perception of the world.

The public has the ability to know the anti-conventional and subversive way with which new artists create, as they experiment with the

concept of the visual and the real and submit new ways of intellection for ourselves and the reality around us.

In the dynamic mesh that is called communicative and cultural globalization, video art diuses the subject to a new reality, becomes

conceptual and aesthetic pleasure and stimulant for young people to investigate the invisible aspects of reality, to meditate on the

possibilities and liberty that are oered by new technologies and digital culture.

THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE SUPPORTS For the second consecutive year the activities of Athens Video Art Festival, an international festival of audiovisual means with point of reference the digital culture and new technologies. Audiovisual arts, through the use of autonomic means of expression and a writing that is special and characteristic, aim to stamp

modern as a concept and term. Commensurate initiatives of experimental expression, especially when they originate from young

people and address a young public, need to be approached further and special care should be given by the appropriate factors, so that

the public can become familiar with the developing forms of artistic expression, the promotion of new Greek creators and the evolution

of the modern artistic product.

I welcome the eort of the organizers and wish the visitors to enjoy the original and rich spectacle of this years festival.

I T IS WITH GREAT JOY that Technopolis, of the Municipal of Athens, welcomes you to Athens Video Art Festival, the innovative international festival of audio-visual arts that is dedicated to digital culture and new technologies and that addresses all the lovers of the moving image. This years materialization, the third in a row and the most dynamic one yet, which is hosted in the venues of

Technopolis and is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the General Secretariat For Youth, the Municipal of Athens, the

Ministry of Transport (E.T.H.E.L.) and Aegean University (Department of Cultural Technology & Communication), oers an original sight to

the public, giving it the ability to experience the most evolving form of expression that combines photography, movement and music but

mainly imagination and experimentation. A fact that is proven by the 1200 submissions that were made, originating from 41 countries, by

artists that responded to its call for entries using in an impressive way all available audio-visual means.

For this innovative artistic aair, congratulations should be given to the Greek and international makers and the urban non protable company

T HE TECHNOPOLIS OF THE CITY OF ATHENS covers an area of approximately 30 acres and constitutes a live industrial museum of incomparable architecture and one of the most interesting in Europe. It is located in the old Gas factory in Athens, known as "Gazi", next to the Keramikos close to the Akropolis. Its gradual transformation into a versatile cultural center, hosting various events, gives visitors the chance to wander around in a space full of works of art, knowledge, and sentiments. The charm of another era that is given o by the chimneys, the enormous cauldrons (gas containers), funnels and ovens piously "conspires" to establish the place as a "factory" of art, while in terms of etymology the word "gas" (as originating from the ancient German word "galist", later "geist") means "spirit".

It has been in operation since 1999 and is dedicated to the memory of the unforgettable composer Manos Hatzidakis.

Honouring Greek poetry, eight of the buildings that operate in the area, are named after signicant poets: Andreas Empirikos (Building D1), Agelos Sikelianos (D4), Yannis Ritsos (R/S "Athens 9.84 and Amtheatre"), Kostis Palamas (D10), Takis Papatsonis (D6), Konstantinos Kavas (D7) and Kostas Varnalis (A8). The symbol of Technopolis is the original sculpture "the Ball of the Millennium", a work of Nikos-Giorgos Papoutsidis, which portrays Earth being surrounded by olive branches and symbolizes the wish and the hope that peace and humanity shall prevail around the world.

cooperation with other forms of art.

ELICA GROUP WAS FORMED BY GIORGOS GRIGORAKOS AND FOTIS KARAOGLANIS IN ATHENS IN 2003. They have presented "nekyia" and "to taxidi twn xartaetwn"(the journey of the kites).Within these two projects,Elica experimented while combining electronic live performance and video art. Also they have composed a soundtrack for Sarah Kane's play "blasted" which was presented in thessalonikh in 2005 for the rst time. They have performed as support group with Kbhta all around Greece.They have participated with their own remix ('to skyli') in "movement sessions-a tribute to kbhta" and now working on their rst album which is to be released soon.

NAONO & MELORMAN STARTED PRODUCING MUSIC IN 2001, while performing at various festivals including Synch Festival, Athens Music Day Festival, Indie Free Festival, Podewill Festival in Berlin Germany and others.Their musical style involves melodic scales and sounds combined with rhythmic elements of various genres including Ambient ,Experimental, Down Tempo and Idm. Tony Simeonides aka Naono started o his public musical carreer in 2000, after his graduation, and has participated in many music projects and releases. His music has a touch of nature, an organic breath in it.Antonis Haniotakis aka Melorman studied History of Art and Music Engineering. The main characteristics of his music are the melodic scales and atmospheres combined in a mystic environment of broken samples, vocals and beats.

tRANSMEDIALE IS A FORUM OF COMMUNICATION FOR ARTISTS, media workers and a broad public interested in arts. transmediale includes exhibitions, conferences, live performances, artist presentations and a variety of fringe events throughout Berlin. transmediale was founded in 1988 as a video art festival and has taken place annually, in Berlin, ever since. First conceived in close relation to the Berlinale lm festival, the festival changed its name from 'VideoFest' to 'transmediale' in 1997/98, thus reecting the fact that its programmatic scope had broadened to encompass a wide range of multimedia-related art forms. Since then, digital technologies have become rmly integrated into our everyday lives. 'Digital culture' is no avant garde terrain any more. transmediale has responded to this development by focusing its programmes not on the latest technical novelties and scientic speculations, but on the actual usage that people are making of such technologies.

S INCE 1990 INVIDEO has established itself as an international benchmark for the full range of audiovisual production connected to electronic art and new technologies. INVIDEO - International Exhibition of Video and Cinema Beyond - represents a reference point for non ctional video in Italy and has established itself as the most important Italian event in the eld of experimental and art video. Alongside the rich programme of screenings, there are meetings with video makers, premieres, debates, retrospectives, performances and video installations. INVIDEO today can count on a permanent network of interchange and contacts with artists, critics, industry professionals, broadcasting and production centres, creating a truly global - but never uniform - picture of the world and its mutations, of the research into new languages of expression and new audiovisual horizons. The video works selected by INVIDEO for projection at Athens Video Art Festival 07 are some of the best works created by Italian artists during the last few years. ANIMA FESTIVAL IS THE MAIN EVENT DEDICATED TO THE ART OF ANIMATION IN ARGENTINA. he Festival showcases the most relevant of the animated world production and it is also a meeting point between the animators and their audience. ANIMA is a cultural and academic event, of international breadth, dedicated specically to the art and technique of animation. Its periodicity is biennial, it is the only Festival held in Argentina which deals with the problematics of animation, and the second most important in Latin America. ANIMA is organized by the Centro Experimental de Animacin (Dpto. de Cine y TV, Universidad Nacional de Crdoba) and Centro Cultural Espaa CrdobaAnimation is one of the richest branches of the audiovisual art. Unfortunately, all this richness does not always show up in the animated productions exhibited in television or theatrical cinema, which are generally destinated to a children audience. There are still authors though who leave their mark in the lms they do, running away from serial, mechanized production. This is the kind of Animation to which ANIMA is dedicated. The itinerant screening attempts to give a taste of the Festivals spirit, and allows Anima to present a panorama on the state of contemporary animation.

LOOP IS AN INTERNATIONAL VIDEO ART FESTIVAL AND FAIR THAT IS HELD EACH YEAR IN BARCELONA. LOOP `07 is the fth time the event will be held and, as always, it is committed to exhibiting world premieres and presenting interesting works by new and established talents, as well as creating a meeting point for everyone interested in the eld. By using a centrally-located hotel and many dierent museums, galleries and shops spread all over the city centre for the showings, LOOP brings the art closer to the general public and makes it possible for everyone to get an insight into the world of video art and discuss its future potential The festival tries to create space for upcoming artists and is therefore working on establishing good relationships with schools that specialize in video art. A T H E N S VI D E O A R T FE S T I V A L is an innovative festival on digital art in its moving form, which is one of the most evolving forms of art of recent times, which combines photography, movement, music and experimentalism.

The aim of the festival is to promote this modern and lively form of expression, give the artists additional motive to create and the opportunity to express using all audiovisual means, while at the same time offers an interesting exhibition to the public.

Athens Video Art Festival takes place for the third consecutive year and is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the General Secretariat For Youth, the Municipal of Athens, the Ministry of Transport (E.T.H.E.L.), Goethe Institut and Aegean University (Department of Cultural Technology & Communication). The artistic community responded warmly to its call for entries 1200 submissions were made, originating from 41 countries.
