National Current Operations & Monitoring

COVID-19 (For interagency reporting see FEMA NRCC COVID-19 SLB, published daily)

Situation: FEMA, HHS, and federal

partners are working with SLTT

governments to execute a whole-of-

America response to the COVID-19

pandemic. The HHS Secretary issued a

renewal of the January 31 COVID-19

Public Health Emergency Declaration; the

renewal, effective April 26, extends the

Declaration for 90 days.

• FEMA NRCC remains at Level I in

unified effort with HHS SOC; all

FEMA RRCCs activated

• 56 Major Disaster Declarations

approved

• All State / Territory EOCs activated

• Testing: 7,490,096 cumulative as of

May 6

• 49,920 FEMA, DOD, HHS, CDC, and

VA personnel deployed/activated in support of COVID-19

o 3,302 (+3) FEMA employees deployed

Health and Medical Lifelines

Public Health

Testing

• NV: Clark County established its first CBTS at a hotel-casino parking garage on May 5; goal is to conduct 300 tests

per day on May 5, and May 6, and increase to 1,600 to 2,000 tests per day

Mitigation

• A U.S. pharmaceutical company and a German biotechnology company are testing an experimental COVID-19

vaccine on humans in the U.S.; the trial is taking place at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine and

the University of Maryland School of Medicine

• Texas A&M University is conducting human clinical trials focused on prevention and mitigation for those who have

not been exposed to COVID-19 by testing on an existing vaccine for tuberculosis; total of 1,800 people in the trials

Mental Health

• KY: Federal funding is now available for the state to provide crisis counseling services to residents coping with stress

and anxiety as a result of the COVID‐19 pandemic

Other Domestic Lifelines

Safety & Security

• MA: The Governor has issued cease-and-desist orders to more than 60 businesses for violating COVID-19 restrictions

Food Water & Sheltering

• USDA: Food and Nutrition Service has approved the states of ME, VT, WV, and ND to operate a Pandemic-

Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program; there are now 20 states approved to operate P-EBT

• Supermarkets in Region I beginning to limit meat sales in anticipation of shortage

• Small Business Administration announcing Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available to U.S. agricultural

businesses impacted by COVID-19 pandemic

Transportation

• Navajo Nation is waiting on a final transportation plan proposal from an ambulance company to transport COVID

patients to and from medical facilities; expanded transport capability will reduce the strain on current providers

Current Situation

• Fire began on May 6 and is burning on private land near

the city of Avalon Beach, FL

• 2,000 acres burned; 20% contained

• Homes threatened 1,131; homes destroyed 10

• Voluntary evacuation orders issued

• One shelter open with unknown occupants

• I-10 closed between mile markers 22 and 31

• No injuries or fatalities reported
