Cari lettori,
Come?

Dear readers,we just left summer behind with the usual sadness. The end of themost peaceful and enjoyable season of the year spreads in all ofus a mixed feeling of pleasure and nostalgia. Pleasure for the emo-tions and sensations experienced and nostalgia looking forward toliving new ones. But fortunately for us, who carry travellers in everypart of the world, there is the opportunity to share these feelingswith our passengers, 365 days a year, being aware of offeringmoments that will remain in many people’s lives. In particular, the journey and the flight are experiences that – accord-ing to experts and psychologists – leave an indelible mark on ourmemory. And if for someone summer was not so satisfying – alsobecause of the weather which was not always appropriate to theseason – Meridiana offers the opportunity to extend Your ‘range ofpleasure’ far beyond the provisions of the seasonal calendar. How? By simply following our routes and all the opportunities thatour company constantly offers. We will start, remaining in Italy, in ourbeloved Belpaese. In this issue we will tell you about Venice, for whichperhaps any adjective is useless or even limiting. The adjectives unique, wonderful and incomparable are not suffi-cient to classify a city that is considered to be an absolute gem orshould I say ‘the absolute gem’. History, art and nature are intertwinedthere for centuries, to represent Italy in a universal and globally rec-ognized conjunction. Not surprisingly, the greatest traveller of all time,Marco Polo, set off right from the Laguna to discover the East, thenunknown to us, and not by chance still considered a symbol of eter-nal ambassador of the West and all the great travellers of all time. Venice in its uniqueness – even if in the world it seems there aredozens of places named the same, perhaps to evoke its incompa-rable wonder – represents the maximum beauty of a city. A fusion
between human activities and nature, with the North Adriatic sea, which surrounds and pervades its waters, to preserve it and at thesame time continuing its demolition and erosion activity. Symbol of man’s ability to distinguish himself from other species, butalways at the mercy of nature in all its complexity. The second journeyis always in Europe, it’s in the heart of Spain. The amazing Madrid, in thecentre of the Iberian Peninsula, during autumn offers the chance toenjoy an excellent weather, before the rigours of continental winter. The capital of the Kingdom, one of the last constitutional monarchiesthat still survive in the West, as well as being the capital of Europeanfootball with its ‘Galacticos’ players, is also one of the most fascinat-ing cities to visit. Here too, history and art, lived for centuries by realrulers of the known world and beyond, have a really important andrelevant role. To this we add the ‘movida’, a typically Spanish way ofliving life, with timetables, food and entertainment absolutely differentfrom the rest of Europe. Finally, to end with a bang and for those whowant to seamlessly try again sun and sea, a Caribbean offer. Mexico and its pearl, Cancun. Beaches and sea in a blinding flash. The white coral beaches probably reflect even up to the moon thatat night creates the effect of daylight, washed by the warm and clearsea with emerald glares. In this issue, then there will not be a single interview, but an interestingarticle on the Spanish film festival on the occasion of the InternationalFilm Festival of Venice, an ideal link between our destinations – Veniceand Madrid – and the cultural international avant-gardes. The maincharacters are people who left their mark in the amazing world of cin-ema: Almodovar, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Finally, as always,we invite you to read the following pages lightheartedly but with a min-imum of curiosity, we will open up a new view on the world. A world thatis waiting for you and that you will always find in our ‘Company’.

The first times in MilanThere is always a first time. As in thecase of Le Dame del Pollaiolo assem-bled in extraordinary session for theexhibition at the Poldo Pezzoli Museum.Three female portraits come, in fact, from the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, theMet in New York and the Uffizi Gallery inFlorence and they will be added to oneof the greatest masterpieces ofFlorentine portraiture of the fifteenthcentury preserved in the museum ofVia Manzoni. From November 7 toFebruary 16, 2015, thanks to the sup-port of the Fondazione Bracco, you willhave the chance to admire also sculp-tures, drawings, prints, jewelry andembroidery reflecting the versatility ofthe talent of Antonio del Pollaiolo andhis workshop of craftsmanship ofRenaissance. To mark in your agenda also theanthology dedicated to GiovanniSegantini, an orphan artist born into
poverty and become, when he wasstill alive, one of the best-paid artists ofhis time. Having produced a smallnumber of works (he died shortlywhen he was just over 40), very fragilebecause of the technique used, anddispersed throughout the world,Segantini was no longer seen in hisentirety: with the symbolist visionarymasterpieces beside the naturalistones, the portraits and still life paint-ings of the beginning. The 120 workson display at Palazzo Reale untilJanuary 18, 2015, fill this gap throughthe exhibition organized by the City ofMilan – Culture, Skira editore andFondazione Antonio Mazzotta andcurated by Annie-Paule Quinsac, author of the annotated catalog, themost expert of Segantini, to which shedevoted nearly half a century of stud-ies and eight exhibitions around theworld.

Madrid, Hollywood Almodovar, Cruz and Barden in the mirror, including successes, travels and the desire to return
It is not possible to think about Madrid without thinking of the
movies that talked about it in the last two decades: especially
the Spanish director par excellence, that is to say Pedro
Almodovar who – in a very lucky period for Spanish cinematog-
raphy – reached the collective imagination with international
strength, taste and intelligence.
Oscar-winning with All About My Mother, he did not think even
for a second of leaving the place where his artistic career was
born. ‘My work is always the same and I’m still the master of my
career.’ He says smiling. ‘After all the madness of Los Angeles, I
just wanted to come back soon to Madrid and prove to myself
and others that I was always the same. I was proposed
American productions with huge budgets, international stars, a
real madness! I wanted to go home and be ‘smaller’ than ever.
I want to be independent, I cannot star in films any other way.
The only privilege of such celebrity is being able to do what my
heart tells me to do. So when I decide to tell a story I follow my
instincts, my intuition, so I’m not always aware of why I make a
choice, in this case I was passionate about the story of these
two suffering weak men, about the friendship that develops
between them, I have always liked the friendships between
men and these two are contemporaries men. I am very happy
I had these four actors for my film, thanks to them, the margin
of failure was almost reduced to zero, because they are talent-
ed and starred in a state of grace.’
But, the one who works regularly between Madrid and America
is one of Almodovar muses, Penelope Cruz: ‘The fate of an
actress is to travel, but you need to have a place to return to.
Madrid is my home and it always will be.’ This journey is a
choice, but also, sometimes, a need to confront yourself with
new things. ‘I've been lucky with the characters that I was
offered both in Europe and in the United States,’ continues
Penelope Cruz. ‘The hardest thing was to say no. Even in Spain
they wanted to trap me in certain clichés, but I did not feel like
it. Especially with the last film I played in America I bet on bold
characters. I do not love comforts and I do not like easy things.
I want to be challenged, and be afraid.’
On the same wavelength Penelope Cruz’s husband, who also
won the Oscar, Javier Bardem: ‘I've been very lucky in my life, I
continue to work in Madrid and in Hollywood, doing what I’ve
always done, making mistakes from time to time, but that’s in
the nature of things. I always try to go in the right direction,

Every day in Madrid a slow and tireless pilgrimage from tascas
to tabernas and from tabernas to bar de tapas starts. Majestic
and monumental, but also colourful and irreverent, Madrid is the
true capital of entertainment, which always begins with a few
snacks and a copa de cerveza (a beer glass).
All the traveller’s day is divided into small stops dedicated to
refreshment, and the temptation in the calles of the city is a con-
tinuum: from the churro of the cold winter mornings, a fried
dough pastry sprinkled with sugar to be dipped in a cup of hot
chocolate, to the snack of 12 in one of the many factories of
chips scattered on the streets.
The first gastronomic stop, however, is Mercado San Miguel in the
square of the same name. Located in a beautiful iron building
dating back to 1916 and renovated in recent years, it is home to
75 schools of gastronomy that sell hundreds of different tapas:
the classic jamon serrano, crostini with shrimp or codfish cream,
olives of all kinds, anchovies, oysters, seafood and fried fish,
everything accompanied by Spanish wines, sangria or even
champagne. The market is the place for the first approach with
the local cuisine, it is located in the city centre and the expense
ranges from 2 to 15 euro.
But the traditional ritual of tapeo is concentrated around the pic-
turesque Plaza Santa Ana, or in the streets of the Huerta district,
famous because inhabited for centuries by the greatest writers
and artists of the country.
At the number 18 in Huerta you find Casa Alberto, old bar de
tapas with a magnificent nineteenth-century counter, while still
in this area Taberna de Dolores is the oldest in the district and is
famous for the excellent way in which they tap beer kegs.
In these streets you can go from local to local without a break,
until late at night, drinking and tasting. Typically you start from
cold dishes, the inevitable olives, jamon serrano or anchovies in
olive oil, till ordering small portions of cooked food: hamburgers
or fish meatballs, Galician octopus and inimitable sauce and

Secondo i dati divulgati dall’UNWTO (United

Cancun: ecotourism in Mayan villagesFlavours, temples, magic rituals and adventures between the jungle and Cenotes
According to the data released by the UNWTO (United Nations World
Tourism Organization) in 2013, there are about a billion people who
travel for leisure and among them many choose the path of eco-
tourism, which began as a trend and is now becoming more and
more necessary.
But what is it about? We could call it an agreement between innova-
tion and tradition.
When the Mexican architect Hector Cabassos-Lascurain, in 1988,
coined the term, it indicated the idea of travelling in undisturbed
areas where you can be in touch with nature and traditional culture.
Today, the aim is the integration of rural communities in the tourism
sector, in order to enhance their anthropological structure, but also to
direct visitors, and not, to respect biodiversity, which, as claimed by
the UNWTO, is essential to the long-term duration of tourism itself.
Since 1999, for example, in Mexico Alltournative created an extensive
network of sustainable itineraries in order to improve the living condi-
tions of indigenous peoples, to protect their customs and their tradi-
tions, but also to protect the flora and fauna (such as puma and
jaguars) from the risk of extinction due to hunting.
Here it is, Cancun, nestled in the heart of the state of Quintana Roo, has
much more to offer than the white beach and the crystal clear waters
of the Caribbean Sea. So many routes start from the surrounding area,
giving visitors authentic moments of life and undiscovered magical
worlds. Starting from Cancun you can reach Coba: an archaeologi-
cal treasure dating from the ninth century. In addition to the courts of
the legendary ball game, here you can see the pyramid Nohoch
Muul which, with its 42 meters, is the highest of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The tourist who wants to learn more about the culture of these hos-
pitable communities, can cross the threshold of Mayan Villages. In
Mayan dwellings made of straw and wood, you can hear the story of
the ancient generations, participate in magic rituals and eat typical
dishes with handmade empanadas and tortillas.
All the communities around Cancun are part of the human heritage,
such as the Esmeralda one, who still lives on agriculture, knows by
heart the local flora and guides visitors to discover the Cenotes:
divine meeting places and vital water source.
The family which lives at the San Felipe Ranch, guards the Nohoch
Nah Chiich cave. From here you can reach Sac-Actun, the longest
underground river, already explored and recommended by the
National Geographic Snorkeler, specializing in scuba diving in under-
water caves carved by thousand-year-old stalactite formations. The
itineraries continue then on board of a jeep through the rainforest fol-
lowing trekking and canopy routes. This activity is only for small
groups, who will have the honour to participate in traditional Mayan
purification ceremonies.
That is why cultural protection is associated to leisure and, apparent-
ly, even to a substantial economic benefit. According to UNWTO data,
in 2011 over 22 million foreigner tourists visited Mexico. So the Travel &
Tourism Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum
included Mexico as the forty-third place in the world for its ability to
attract new investment in tourism, focusing on sustainability and
competitiveness.

While visiting the locations of Autumn in Barbagia you can feel a cul-
tural atmosphere: history, traditions and the artistic heritage merge in
a natural setting of great beauty, evidence of a culture handed down
for centuries. First Nuoro, the Athens of Sardinia, constantly evokes the
great personalities: Deledda, Ciusa, Satta, Cambosu that come alive
again today. History and traditions are kept in several museums: the
Sardinian Ethnography Museum, the Tribu, the Man, and the Museo
located where the Nobel Prize for literature Grazia Deledda was born.
No lacks of permanent sector-based institutions such as the Museum
of Natural Science in Belvì (fossil minerals and fauna) and the
Museum of Mediterranean Masks in Mamoiada (ancient carnival
masks from Barbagia).
In Ovodda, the land of one hundred year old people, narrow cobbled
streets intersect in the historic centre with the typical granite houses. An
atmosphere steeped in culture and artistic beauty can be easily found in
Gavoi, with the ethnographic collection of the Museo Casa Porcu Satta.
The historic districts of Tonara – Arasulè, Toneri, Teliseri – are entitled to
the poet Peppino Mereu and keep the pretty slate houses with beau-
tiful covered balconies, s'istauleddos ammantaos.
During Autumn in Barbagia of course you can know more about not
only the renowned artisan food and wine, but also the ‘physiognomy’
of the country, as Meana Sardo with the charming streets of the old
town and the houses in schist stone. Walking through the narrow
streets of the historic district of Tiana you can see the stone houses
with several floors with typical corzos (full-bridge over the paths that
connect homes from side to side), while in the old town of Orune Casa
Murgia is kept, a typical example of a mansion of the twentieth cen-
tury, still preserving the old powerhouse that supplied energy to the
whole country. Museums, churches and historic houses are available
for visitors during Autumn in Barbagia also in Teti, with Casa Satta and
Casa Mereu, old houses, faithful reconstructions of the past. In Olzai
the charming old town has maintained its typical villages of Barbagia
with multi-storey houses built with blocks of granite, as the beautiful
palace Casa-Museo of the artist Carmelo Floris.
In Desulo obvious signs of pastoral culture can be found in the shelters
in the mountains, pinnettas, circular stone huts covered with bundles of
wood and cork barks. The Gennargentu – the silver door – protects the
villages of Barbagia and at its feet, surrounded by centuries-old woods
and a charming nature, Fonni is located, the highest mountain town of
the island, a major tourist destination for mountain sports.
Singular wind-sculpted granite complexes host pristine forests and
natural sources such as those of Sorgono and Aritzo that offer breath-
taking views, ideal places for those who love hiking and outdoor
excursions through unique paths. Enthusiasts can’t miss the fascinat-
ing excursion at the mine of Funtana Raminosa in Gadoni, a real min-
ing village. In Lula, Sos Enattos, S’Arghentaria and Guzzurra mines can
be visited today and are part of the ‘Geomineral, Historical and
Environmental Park of Sardinia’, recognized by UNESCO.
The modern blends with the old and every place, even more during
the events of Autumn in Barbagia, shows its peculiarities: different vil-
lages that host the wall paintings, for example Onanì stands out for
the precious works of the painter Diego Asproni, an expression of the
artistic movement committed to fighting social injustice and that has
imprinted his mark in Orgosolo so as to become the emblem of this
cultural phenomenon.
Finally, stories and legends give that particular enchanted charm to a time-
less land, keeper of long and valuable traditions to be discovered in Autumn.

The view enjoyed from the window designed by Gae Aulenti for
the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is breathtaking: from the Altar
of the Fatherland (Altare della Patria) to the domes of the church-
es – in the distance you can see St. Peter’s Basilica – from the
rooftops of the old town centre to the green landscape of the
Janiculum, of Monte Mario and of Pincio. Yet up to ’99 there were
very few people knowing what was behind the windows of the
eighteenth-century building with elegant rounded angles, built
on the remains (still visible in part) of the great temple of Serapis.
Today, the Scuderie del Quirinale are a destination for enthusiasts
from all over the world and are home to the most exclusive exhi-
bitions in the capital. Like the one dedicated to Hans Memling
until January 18, 2015. So thanks to the exhibition’s project by Till-

founders of Flemish art – will touch Italian soil for the first time.

tradizioni artigiane, culinarie e vinicole.

Oliena: between goldembroideries
and Nepente gobletsEncapsulated as a diamond in the wild and ancient
Barbagia, the city of Oliena opens to visitors lost worlds
of craft, food and wine traditions. Walking along the
cobbled streets you will see old ladies dressed with one
of the most chic and precious fashion traditional
Sardinian garments: Oliena shawl, a large triangle with
long fringes, often intertwined with diamonds. Its unique-
ness and refinement comes from a fine hand embroi-
dery art, which uses thin strands of gold and silver wool,
and of hard stones to make lighted floral arrangements.
Also the filigree gold and silver jewellery, manufactured
in accordance with the Etruscan technique, are
enchanted and mark the most important moments in
a woman’s life and enrich traditional clothes and
much more. Equally noteworthy are the culinary gems:
from the known carasau bread, which is usually kept in
carved chests, to cheese from sheep’s and goat’s milk,
olive products, which with the Bianca Bosana and the
Nera di Oliena, typical local biodiversity, make the city
one of the stages of Girolio d’Italia, from October 17 to
19. Very classy and delicious the Sardinian wild boar
meat but, as D’Annunzio said, just one sip of Nepente
and you will never leave the island!

to attraversando le sue calli o solcando i suoi canali in vapo-retto, gondola o motoscafo.

volta a cinquant’anni, ovvero trent’anni fa.

come The Tourist con Johnny Depp e Angelina Jolie.

Venice at the Cinema from being the stage of the Mostra Internazionale tobecoming the Seventh Art muse for the unforgettable film by Luchino Visconti, Woody
Allen, James Ivory, Florian Henker Von Donnermarck and Giuliano Montaldo
When Venice Film Festival was over, Venice has returned to be the beau-
tiful and unique city in the world, the perfect setting for the film that each
of us has lived through its streets going through the canals by boat, gon-
dola or speedboat. A daydream that many directors have translated
into an unforgettable film, producing films very different from each other.
The list of films shot in the city is too long to be mentioned and still would
be unfairly reductive: from the Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino to
Death in Venice, an unforgettable adaptation by Luchino Visconti of the
short novel by Thomas Mann, to 007 Moonraker with Roger Moore and
a gondola that turns into a wonderful James Bond’s gadget, from
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with Harrison Ford on the trail of the
Holy Grail and of his dad Sean Connery to the classic Anonimo
Veneziano or to Venice, the moon and You with Alberto Sordi as a gon-
dolier and seducer, the city is the ideal background of films and stories
different from each other to satisfy the tastes of the whole audience.
But it is also a delight for the directors who find something different, spe-
cial and absolutely ‘unique’ in that city. ‘There are only two other places
in the world where I feel at home: one is Venice, the other is Paris,’ says
Woody Allen. ‘I went to Venice for the first time thirty years ago when I
was fifty. I did not like the idea of having to go around a gondola or on
a boat. When, however, I found myself for the first time sailing the lagoon,
the melancholy time, the emotions of the landscape, the irrational joy I
felt being there, made me love it. I know it’s crazy, but for some reason,
New York, Paris and Venice have a common denominator for me. These
three cities have no equal, in my heart.’
His American fellow James Ivory, author of unforgettable films set in Italy
as A room with a view, thinks the same and says: ‘I wish I had more
opportunities over the years to have been able to shoot more films here
in Italy, and in Venice I produced a documentary titled Sights & Sound.
The trap in which a director can fall is set first of all by himself, the more
you love a place, the more you want to take things inside your story, the
more you feel the temptation to overdo. It is something that happens to
any director in any part of the world, but Venice can become a real risk.’
The German Florian Henker Von Donnermarck author of the Oscar-win-
ning The lives of others was one of the last filmmakers to bring in the city
a Hollywood megaproduction of the likes of The Tourist starring Johnny
Depp and Angelina Jolie. It was not a random choice. ‘For me, in the cin-
ema, Venice is a protagonist of the films I watched, but also of what I
have done. In my case I thought it was the only place as fascinating as
Johnny and Angelina. For me it is a place that, when I think about it, I
cannot believe it actually exists; I lived there five months and now that
experience seems almost like a dream to me. Even women seem more
beautiful than in other places, because this is a city that puts you in a
mood of happiness and I wanted to see this on the faces of my players.
Luckily, our producers gave us the opportunity not to limit ourselves just
to do the filming of the exterior and then rebuild everything in a studio
in Los Angeles, but to shoot the film entirely in Venice: I do not remem-
ber when this was done for the last time, it is a major logistical chal-
lenge, but also a great pleasure.’
A challenge shared by many such as the great maestro Giuliano
Montaldo who rebuilt the city at the Lido of Venice as it was in the
Middle Ages for its legendary Marco Polo, the first co-production
between Italy and China. ‘People did not believe it: our set had become
a sort of tourist attraction to testify how the beauty of this city is able to
capture the imagination of everyone.’

‘The greatest painter of crowds that Verismo (Italian literary move-ment) had.’ This is how the literary critic Attilio Momigliano describesMatilde Serao, the first woman to found and direct a newspaper inItaly. Active protagonist during the fervent cultural post-unificationperiod, and forerunner of a femininity that finds its essence even inher love for her own work, and not just in being a wife and mother. The disconcerting modernity of this prolific writer (with over seventyworks to her credit and a nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literaturein 1922) characterizes her as an awkward and legendary presencein the years between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Almost a century after her death, in fact, her figure is more relevantthan ever: fascinating object of interpretations and thematic stud-ies that exceed stale stereotypes as in the recent meeting of theFestivaletteratura in Mantova with Antonia Arslan, an expert onwomen’s literature, who oversaw the new edition of The belly ofNaples (published in 2014 by Scrittici Ritrovate 130 years after thefirst publication). This is one of the first works of investigative literature, in which thegreat powers of observation of the reporter melts and mixes withthe talent of an artist who knows how to use words like the colourson a palette to portray common people and the petty bourgeoisie, lingering on the habits, the hardships and despair of a Naples thatlives between the sacred and the profane.
Then, almost without interruption, there are masterpieces such asThe conquest of Rome (1885), The Young Girl’s Novel (1886) andThe Life and Adventures of Riccardo Joanna (1987): a work thatBenedetto Croce described as ‘the novel of Italian journalism’. Eventoday Il Mattino (founded by Serao with her husband EdoardoScarfoglio in 1982) is the main newspaper in Naples, representingone of the smartest ideas of the history of Italian journalism.

Cosa unisce Torino a Berlino?

What connects Turin to Berlin? Not only the vibrant cultural scene, therefined food and wine, or the great tradition of civic education, but alsoMeridiana which, in agreement with Sagat, introduced a flight twice aweek between the two cities. The reason for this initiative is the projectTurin Meets Berlin, sponsored by the City of Turin, with the aim to forge acultural partnership in 2015, from November 9, 2014 to December 31,2015. In the rich calendar of events, the main one is the Sven Marquardtsolo show Goetterdammerung. Twilight of the Gods, held at the dualvenue of Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana and at the former cemetery of SanPietro in Vincoli in Turin from November 9, 2014 (the 25th anniversary ofthe fall of the Berlin Wall) to January 12, 2015. The project, strongly sup-ported by the Fondazione per la Cultura Torino, brings for the first time inItaly the work of the artist born in East Berlin in 1962, once a ‘clandestine’photographer and today the undisputed star of the club-culture.Through the story of the evolution and socio-cultural transformations ofthe German capital from the years of the Cold War to the present day,the exhibition celebrates the thirty-year career of Marquardt who, withhis melancholy, coated, strong and provocative outbursts is expected toattract between 15000 and 20000 visitors. For the event, which is spon-sored by the City of Turin and the Goethe Institut, Skira has created atrilingual catalog. The exhibition also benefits of the support of theConsulate and Embassy of Germany in Italy and of Expo 2015.

Villa Marangon Tenuta Podernovo
The single label makes its debut for the wines of Trentino, Tuscany and UmbriaThe elegance of Pinot Noir, the expressiveness of Chardonnay Trentino, the
refined tannic texture of Sangiovese and the power of Sagratino have
now the same single label, the moon phases of the Lunelli Estate. ‘We
decided that it was time to stand up for it and then launch a brand with
our family’s name’, said the CEO of the Group, Matteo Lunelli, during the
official debut in September at the Circolo Canottieri Aniene in Rome.
The decision has come after a long process born with the acquisition, in
the 80s, of a sixteenth-century gem now open to the public, Villa Margon,
connected to the starred restaurant Locanda Margon. Of course there is
Tuscany, with the Podernovo Estate nestled in the hills of Pisa (where you
can enjoy a charming holiday), and Umbria, the only Italian region
among the 10 Best Wine Travel Destinations 2014 awarded by the popu-
lar American magazine Wine Enthusiast. A place worth to visit even just to
admire the cellar-sculpture of the Castelbuono Estate, designed by one
of the greatest contemporary sculptors in the world, Arnaldo Pomodoro.
The goal? To constitute a Group of the excellence of Italian wine. ‘We want
to place side by side to Ferrari Trentodoc products that share the same
values and that allow us to tell the variety of territories that is the great
wealth of Italian wine’, explains Matteo Lunelli. A path already in progress
with the acquisition of the historic distillery Segnana, of the mineral water
Surgiva and of the 50% of Bisol, reference brand in the world of Prosecco
Superiore.

Wellness
A good wine is not only the ideal companion of our meals, but also
a beauty elixir! It’s several years now since wine therapy treatments
have gained ground in many beauty salons. It was born in France,
in the Bordeaux area, and has spread rapidly in Spain, Italy,
Argentina and Brazil.
The spouses Cathiard Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas discovered
the properties contained in the waste of grapes though a kind of
wine therapy seems to have existed at the time of the Arabs, the
Romans and the Greeks.
After preparing the skin with a scrub, you proceed with wraps and
baths prepared with the beverage of Bacchus.
Known for its antioxidant properties, due to the high content of
polyphenols, wine has also excellent emollient, antibacterial, ton-
ing and calming proprieties. In addition to fighting free radicals
and signs of aging, the wine is a great ally of circulation and it
makes the skin more elastic.
The grapes used are generally the black ones, like Lambrusco,
Sangiovese, but also Cabernet Sauvignon. Skins, seeds and stalks
are subjected to an ad hoc treatment useful for creating muds,
creams and essential oils.
Wine Therapy: Relaxing autumn
estetici.
scarti dell’uva furono i coniugiMathilde Cathiard e Bertrand
canti e calmanti.

The responses to a changing market at Genoa International Boat Show Mission accomplished for the 54th edition of Genoa International Boat
Show that this year has focused on two key aspects: internationalization
and Made in Italy. ‘Italian boats, in fact, can be the proof of our excellence
in the world of shipbuilding, even in areas such as design or furniture’,
according to Massimo Perotti, Ucina President.
Renovated and dynamic, the exhibition has shown to have the ability to
adapt to the needs of an industry, which, although in trouble, begins to
show the first signs of recovery. In fact, the growth trend of acceptances
with a 22% increase in displayed sailing boats (even with world pre-
mieres) and a 50% increase in boats in the water, demonstrating the suc-
cess of the possibility of doing sea trials.
The most obvious news for 2014 is the reorganization of the exhibition
spaces, which began last year with the ‘red wall’, which accompanied the
visitors since their entrance. ‘The format experienced in 2013 - said Anton
Francesco Albertoni, president of I Saloni Nautici Spa - has been fully appre-
ciated. For this reason we have made it easier for people to move through
the stands and along the quays to have an emotional experience, which
an event like Genoa Boat Show continues to raise, representing a unique
example in Europe for variety, richness and completeness of goods.’
In confirmation of the success had by the new formula, the return or confir-
mation of construction yards and prestigious groups such as Ferretti Group,
Sanlorenzo, Sunseeker, Groupe Beneteau, Fipa Group, Hanse Group,
Fairline, Cranchi, Absolute, Cantieri del Pardo, Solaris, Brunswick Marine.
In addition to Eataly, this edition has relied on particularly important sponsors
and partnerships such as: Jeep, Grom, Yamaha Musical Instruments, Kel 12,
The Art of Living Italy, Vision Ottica, Petit Bateau, Sky Italy and Il Sole 24Ore.

Sardinian excellences in the world rewarded in Porto Rotondo Sardinian excellences, ambassadors of the island in the world.

Busonera, is annually assigned to them. A prestigious award which,
after being assigned in Castelsardo and Porto Cervo, has arrived for
its 13th edition in the suggestive scenery of theatre Mario Ceroli in
Porto Rotondo. The club of the prizewinners is becoming larger and
larger, including many famous people, among them: Elisabetta
Canalis, the bond girl Caterina Murino, Valeria Marini, Bianca
Berlinguer, Giovanni Floris, Beppe Severgnini, Geppi Cucciari, Paolo
Fresu, Enrica Pintore and Daria Bignardi. For 2014, the jury selected six
personalities, very different from each other. Their personal and pro-
fessional stories have moved the audience, who arrived in Porto
Rotondo for the last big gala in summer in the name of worldiness
and elegance. Event organized by the association Sardegna oltre il
mare with the support of: Comune di Olbia, Consorzio Porto
Rotondo, Tirrenia, Eurotel, Welcome to Porto Rotondo. The evening,
hosted by the brilliant TV journalist Egidiangela Sechi, and with the
punctual participation of the actor Marco Spiga and of the orches-
tra conducted by Simone Pittau, was opened by the French poet, but
of Sardinian origin, Marc Porcu. The images with his brother Nicolò,
who died recently, served as a prologue before awarding the Count
Luigi Donà dalle Rose, on occasion of the 50th anniversary of the
foundation of ‘his’ Porto Rotondo. The pharmacologist Luca Pani,
director of the Agenzia Italiana del farmaco, talked about recent
events related to the Stamina method and to professional code of
conduct, while the artist Giovanni Campus spoke of his childhood in
Olbia and of the continuous research, which can be found in his
works, of the meaning of human life. The actor Giancarlo Dettori ‘took
possession’ of the stage with a moving monologue and, anticipating
questions, he talked about the main stages of his long career: from
the beginning, when he was discovered by Giorgio Strehler, up to lit-
tle parts in TV and in the cinema. The last Navicella was awarded by
the jury’s president Franco Cuccureddu to Alessandra Corrias, direc-
tor of ‘Operation Smile’, a non-profit organization that does about
twenty thousand surgeries each year on children with cleft lip, giving

Volcanic paradises in the South SeasAeolus, the god of the wind, chose the Seven Pearls of the
Mediterranean Sea as his residence, fascinated by their overwhelm-
ing beauty. In the southern tip of the Sicilian archipelago there is the
charming Vulcano: separated by a narrow body of water from Lipari,
it wonderfully stands below the blue sky, giving relaxing atmosphere
and exciting natural experiences, thanks to the hot springs, active
fumaroles and hot mud. The Mari del Sud Resort & Village is elegant
and refined, mixing the efficiency of the property, renovated in 2013,
with an oriental touch inside, characterized by traditional elements of
local constructions, such as bisuoli (typical Aeolian chairs) and
pulère (characteristic pillars of the pergolas). Simplicity and ele-
gance are the leitmotif also in the meeting room, the swimming pool
and the restaurant, where you can taste the authentic
Mediterranean cuisine, with its strong flavours full of emotions. Even
the look and smell are delighted, with plants of lavender and orange
blossoms that adorn the Mediterranean garden, while the body is
abandoned in wellness treatments and hiking trails which, by bike, on
foot or by boat, let us explore the thousand earthly paradises which
open up among the Scoglio delle Sirene, the Spiaggia Sabbie Nere,
volcanic headlands and beyond.
