6. Parent Assist- (assisting personto the contestant that is a memberor the parent of a contestant)

Will be allowed to 6 and underBeginner contestants as a lead into the Poles and Barrels or goatundecorating, the parent(assisting person) will berequired to be in dress code.Assisted contestants will have 10seconds added to their time.

7. No profanity will be tolerated.

8. ALL JUDGES RULINGS WILL BE FINAL.

9. Contestants are required tocompete in at least 7 of therodeos in the event(s) (FINALS notincluded) to qualify and competein year-end finals and for theall-around awards. Any and allpoints accumulated will counttoward All-Around, but you mustqualify in at least 2 events to beeligible for any All-Aroundawards. Contestant MUST compete inone age group, there will be nomoving up or down once points havebeen awarded.

10. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES or DRUGSwill be allowed at any ATRArodeo. No one under the influenceof alcohol or drugs will be

permitted at the rodeo.Contestants will have entry feeforfeited and stock turned out ifjudges find contestant under theinfluence of either. Contestantsmay wear no alcoholadvertisements.

11. Contestants will be calledthree (3) times. If he or she isnot ready, arena director has theprivilege to skip or omit thecontestant.

12. Grand Entry must start on time.All timed event contestants andmounted personnel arerequested to ride in the GrandEntry.

13. ANY MISCONDUCT or VIOLATION ofrules by either contestants orrodeo personnel will be punishableby:1st-Warning2nd-Dismissal from that rodeo andpoints taken away from thatrodeo. 3rd-Dismissal fromremainder of rodeo season.

14. Rodeo payoff-Percentage chart(less buckles and awards andstock charges and fees).

15. Contestants have ten (10)days after a rodeo to questionpoints from that rodeo. Afterthat, points will not be changed.

16. Stock Abuse will not betolerated.

17. Only contestants andhelpers/stock contractor will beallowed in arena or behind chutes.

18. Coggins will be kept current tostate regulations.

19. These rules will takeprecedence over all others.

20. Final points will be added toYear-end awards. Average at theFinals will be awarded points sameas go-rounds towards year endawards in each age group.

21. Barrier will be used in allroping events except PeeWee TeamRoping.

22. Broken Barrier will beassessed a 10 second penalty.

23. In order for points to count,contestant must be ridingunassisted when time starts.

24. The hat rule begins at theentryway of the gate with the gateshut. If you lose your hat beforethe entryway of the gate, you willreceive a 5 second penalty. Incases of a alley way, hat muststay on until contestant is inarena.

25. To be eligible for prizes andawards the minimum amount ofrodeos have to be attended alongwith both days of finals will haveto be entered and completed.

26. Awards will be voted on by theATRA Board, however for asaddle to be awarded in a rodeoevent there must be sufficientparticipation in the said eventwhich to support that award.

27. Any rule may be subject to beamended or changed by a passingvote of the board of ATRA.

28. Rough Stock Riders must covertheir animal in a qualified ride,in order to receive an end of yearaward.

AGES

1. The membership will run fromOctober 1 to October 1 thefollowing year. Age groupseffective October 1 to September30

2. It is the contestant’sresponsibility to enter in thecorrect age group.

3. Contestants must send or give acopy of their birth certificate ordriver license to the secretary tobe on file, for proof of age.

4. Points will be awarded in divisionappropriate for that contestant.

5. All-Around points will count onlyfor events offered for that agedivision. If a child chooses toenter an event in an older agedivision the points will apply tothe event awards only, thereforethe points will not apply towardthe All-Around.

The point system will be as follows:

1st place: 11 points2nd place: 10 points3rd place: 9 points4th place: 8 points5th place: 7 points6th place: 6 points

In case of tie, the two points will beadded together and divided for points.EXAMPLE: Tie for 1st place, 10 pointsfor 1st place and 9 points for 2nd, fortotal of 19 points, divided by twocontestants, each contestant receives9.5 points.

NOTE: MEMBERSHIP MUST BE PAID FORPOINTS TO COUNT.

All contestants are required to turn ina $100.00 Sponsorship Fee for the 1stfamily member, each other sibling$50.00 Sponsorship Fee. Sponsorship Feecan be paid by Business Sponsorships,Donations or Selling of Raffle Ticketsor a combination of any of the three.

JUDGES RULES

1. Judges will draw for all stock ata public drawing.

2. Rough stock Judges must score theanimal from 1 to 25 points and therider from 1 to 25 points.

3. Re-rides:

A. Animal comes to a complete stopbefore the buzzer.

B. If the contestant is hit orfouled by the chute gate and hejumps off declaring re-ride anddoes not attempt to ride theanimal. If the animal falls,all four feet must be pointingin the same direction torequire a re-ride.

C. If the rope or flank strapcomes off the animal beforethe buzzer.

D. Contestant has the option totake the score or re-ride.

E. Re-rides to be determined andannounced by one or both judgesimmediately following the ride.Re-rides are at the discretionof the Judge. Contestants willbe permitted to ask for a reride.

4. Judges must turn in score sheetsto the secretary and kept onfile in case of discrepancy.Judges must use ink pens.

5. All re-rides should be drawnbefore the rodeo in a 1 thru 3position and marked for 1st reride, 2nd re-ride, 3rd re-ride. .

7. In all roping events, if a roperis fouled he must stop and declarethat he was fouled.

8. In the roping events, there willbe no hazing except by the linejudge and/or appointee. Only theline judge and appointee areallowed in the arena during theroping. If done for one done forall.

6 & Under Stick Horse Barrels

1. Contestant must run a cloverleafpattern.

2. Barrels will be 5 gallon buckets,placed approximately 15 foot apart3. Barrel over turned will be a 5second penalty for each.4. The stick horse must remain

between the legs of the contestantat all times during the run, orcontestant will receive a 5 secondpenalty.

5. Contestant must complete pattern,failure to do so will result in ano time.

6 & Under Goat Undecorating

1. 70 second time limit2. Goat to be staked on a 4 foot

rope, stake driven below groundlevel

3. Contestant must ride horse acrossthe start line, go to where goat

6. Goat will be held until contestantcrosses starting line

7. A 10 to 12 inch strip of flaggingtape will be placed on the goatstail with a rubber band.

8. Only 1 goat will be used

Muttin Bustin (6 and Under)1. Rider can use both hands2. A Vest and Helmet required,

mouthpiece is recommended3. Sheep will be chute ran4. Time begins when the sheep’s

inside shoulder passes theplane of chute.

5. Ride is 6 secondsCHUTE DOGGING

1. When dogger calls for the steerthe chute gate will be opened.Dogger must keep right hand in

front of or behind shoulder until

the steer’s nose crosses the scoreline. If dogger moves intothrowing position or toucheseither horn before steer’s nosecrosses score line there will be aten (10) second penalty added totime. If steer is thrown beforecrossing the score line the doggerwill be disqualified.

2. Flagmen will signal the stop timewhen the steer is thrown with allfour feet in the same direction. AField Judge shall blow a whistlewhen the steer’s nose crosses thescore line.

3. Any steer making a hula-hand mustbe let to his feet and thrownagain for a legal throw.

4. If the steer breaks away from thedogger; the dogger may take nomore than one (1) step to catchthe steer.

5. There is a thirty (30) second timelimit on each run.

6. A hot shotter or tailer may beused by the contestant at theirown discretion. Any assistant mustenter and leave from behind thechute. An assistant cannot takemore than one (1) step in front ofthe chute.

7. All steers will be turned out inthe same direction and only onechute will be used.

8. The dogger’s hands must be on thethrown steer to receive a

qualified time.

9. DISQUALIFICATIONS:

A. If the steer is turned orthrown before crossing thescore line.

B. The dogger has their handacross the eyes of the steerbefore crossing the score line.

C. The dogger goes to the nose ofthe steer before crossing thescore line.

BULL RIDING

1. Clowns must be dressed likeclowns. clowns must be present atall bull ridings. (From beginnerto senior divisions.)

2. Only five (5) points “plain” or“notched” spur rowels (one rowelper shank) may be used.

3. Riders may use dry rosin on gloveand rope.

4. The sleeve on the riding arm maybe rolled or slid up no fartherthan the top of the elbow or atthe base of the biceps on theriding arm only. Contestants maywear arm pads over the sleeve orpad with sleeve rolled to the topof the pad only.

5. Contestant will be above livestockwith riding glove on and ready tocompete when Judges acknowledgethem their position to compete.Contestants not ready to competewhen their time comes will beassessed a fine and/or stock willbe turned out. (Decision to bemade by Judge and/or ArenaDirector.)

6. Bull having dangerous horns, inthe opinion of the Arena Director,must be dehorned, tipped, or keptout of the draw.

7. If rider makes a qualified ridewith any part of the loose rope inhis riding hand, provided he hasnot touched the ground or has notfouled the animal with his freehand, he is to be scored.

8. All riders are required to wear aprotective vest.

9. All bull ropes are to be made outof not larger than nine-sixteenths(9/16) inch rope.

10. Ropes cannot be used that haveany knots, wires or any otheraides for the purpose of placingspurs therein.

11. DISQUALIFICATIONS:

A. Being bucked off

B. Using sharp spurs

C. Touching the animal orthemselves with free hand orassisting themselves with thefree hand.

D. Arguing with Judges

12. Helmet and vest andmouthpiece required

PEE WEE STEER/CALF RIDING

1. Riders will be allowed to ridewith one (1) or two (2) hands.Time starts when bull’s insidefront shoulder passes the plane ofthe chute.

JUNIOR BULL RIDING

1. Boys will ride with one hand.Girls may choose to ride with oneor two hands. Time starts when

2. Bull must be ridden six (6)seconds.

3. Rope must have a bell when bullleaves the bucking chute. No bell,no marking. Bell must be under thebody of the bull.

4. Only the bull rider and one personmay pull the rider’s rope, thegateman or flanker may assist.

5. Helmet and vest and mouthpiecerequired.

SENIOR BULL RIDING

1. Bull must be ridden eight (8)seconds, time starting when bull’sinside front shoulder passes theplane of the chute.

2. Riding to be done with one handand loose rope, with or without

handhold. No knots or hitches to beallowed that prevents rope from

16coming off bull when ride isfinished.

3. Rope must have a bell when bullleaves the bucking chute. No bell,

20TIE-DOWN ROPING

1. Contestants must catch calf,dismount, go down rope, and throwcalf by hand, cross and tie three

(3) legs. If calf is down when theroper reaches it, calf must bestood at least on three (3) legs,calf may be helped by roper, butmust be re-thrown. If roper’s handis on calf when calf falls, calfis considered thrown by roper. Tiemust be finished with half hitchor hooey.

2. Roper must not touch calf aftergiving a finish signal until theJudge has completed his inspectionor after six (6) seconds.

3. Catch-as-catch can: Any catch islegal. Untie man must not touchcalf until the Judge passes on thetie.

4. Stock Contractor shall endeavor tokeep a uniform (meaning in weight,height and age) set of calves. It isrequired that each calf shall weighno less than 125 pounds and not morethan 200 pounds within a set ofcalves. It is suggested that allherds be of even characteristic;all

Of the same breed or equal cross.Anytime a fresh calf is added toherd, he must be run and tieddown at leastonce.

5. Once score line has been set, itwill not be changed during that go

round, nor will roping box, chute orbarrier change in any manner.

6. Calf must stay tied securely forsix (6) seconds. Judge will notstart his six (6) second perioduntil roper has remounted horseand given calf compete slack.

7. Contestant must adjust neck ropeand rein in a manner that willprevent horse from dragging calf.If a horse turns his tail to thecalf and drags the calf afterroper has dismounted, field judgemay stop the horse.

8. Tie-down roping time limit is 45seconds.

9. Disqualifications:

A. Roper cannot rebuild firstloop.

B. Roping a calf without releasingloop from hand is notpermitted.

C. Deliberately dragging of calfafter roping, Judges must

notify the secretary of reasonfor disqualification andsecretary will report it onresult sheet.

D. If tie comes loose or a calf

gets to his feet before the tiehas been examined and ruled afair one, the roper willreceive a no time

E. The rope must be on the calfwhen the roper touches thecalf.

RIBBON ROPING

1. Team must consist of boy and girl.

2. There shall be the same number ofjudges and timers as in tie-downroping and barrier rules apply asin tie-down roping.

3. There will be allowed only roperand runner to each team.

4. All ribbons will be put on thecalf tail. All ribbons will beidentical in size and brightlycolored.

5. The runner must take the ribbonoff the calf’s tail and carry itacross the score line. Part or allof the ribbon is passable. The calfdoes not have to be standing up topull the ribbon. If runner finds

calf without ribbon on his

23tail, then the runner must stripthe calf’s tail (starting at theroot of the tail, top to bottom).Failure to do so will result in ano time.

6. Roper must rope calf, dismount andbe in contact with the calf when therunner removes the ribbon or team

will receive a no time.

7. A legal catch shall be catch-ascatch can, but rope must be

touching calf when runner removesribbon.

8. The rope does not have to be offthe calf before the runner pullsthe ribbon.

9. Roper will tie hard and fast.

10. Roping the calf withoutreleasing the loop is not

permitted.

11. Animal is contestants whencalled for.

12. There will be a 45 secondtime limit.

13. Ribbon runner must hand ribbonto judge for roper’s time toqualify.

2414. Runner to start on rightfence at designated point.

15. Roper must hold calf untilmugger gets his/her hands on calf.

BREAK-A-WAY ROPING

1. ONE LOOP WILL BE ALLOWED. The ropemust be attached to the horn in sucha manner as to allow the roper to bereleased from the horn when the calfhits the end of the rope. If rope is

broken free from the horn by thecontestant; the contestant will

receive a no time. Rope must be tiedon the saddle horn with a barrierstring. Rope cannot be run throughbridle, tie down, neck rope or other

device.

2. A WHITE cloth or flag must beattached to the rope at the saddlehorn so the judge can tell whenthe rope breaks from the horn. Thecatch-as-catch can rule shallapply after the loop has passedover the calf’s head. Rope must bereleased from contestant’s hand tobe a legal catch.

3. If the judge sees he has made anerror in flagging. Judge mustdeclare a re-run before the

contestant leaves the arena. Thecalf must be re-run by that

contestant before anothercontestant uses it.

4. It will be the producer’s optionto divide the calves according to

the number of contestants inbreakaway and tie down roping.Producers may use the same set ofcalves for both events.

5. Line judge must inspect all ropes.

6. Breakaway roping time limit is 30seconds.

` TEAM ROPING

1. All Partners chosen at time ofentry WILL NOT be changed for anyreason. (The way you enter is theway you rope). When entering,roper will enter as an individualnot as a team. If a roper isroping with another member in adifferent age group then thatroper does not pay an entry fee(i.e. If a 18 year old is ropingwith a 14 year old, in the 11-14under age group, then only the 14year old pays an entry fee).Payout will be done accordingly(i.e. if there are 2 headers and 7heelers in an age group then thepayout will be based on 9 entries.If two of the 9 are on the sameteam and that team wins then theheader and heeler will split 1st

26and 2nd place money). Points willbe awarded as a header and aheeler. All points accumulatedwill count for team roping eventspoints but only the one highest of

the day will count towards AllAround.

2. Each roper is permitted one loop.

3. PeeWee can rope with an adult.

4. Each team is to be considered adifferent contest and as an

individual on a team.

5. Team roping counts all points forthat event. In the All-Aroundpoints, Team Roping is consideredone event. One roper may countHeading or Heeling points for theAll-Around points, but only thebest run in Heading or Heeling cancount not both runs.

6. Animals will be inspected andobjectionable ones eliminatedbefore drawing.

7. Artificial horns may be used butnot mixed; they must all be

artificial or all real.

8. There shall be two or moretimekeepers, a score line judge,and a field judge and as many theofficials as are necessary.

279. Animal belongs to the contestants

after crossing the score line.Exceptions: If an animal gets outof arena flag will be dropped andtime will stop. Contestants get

animal back, lap & tap, with samehead catch if animal has beenroped. Time when animal left arenawill be added. If there is no flagthen the team will receive acomplete re-run.

10. If plastic horns come off asteer before run is completed(before team has got a flag) acomplete re-run will be given withpenalty if barrier is broken.

11. Contestants must holddallies until flagger passescatches.

12. Contestants are not allowed tochange catch by rubbing ropeover horn or nose by hand or makea bad catch legal.

13. Time is to be taken when steeris roped by both ends, in adirect line and horse is on allfours, horses facing steers in “L”or better, with ropes tight anddallied.

14. Only three (3) legal headcatches will be allowed: Aroundthe horns, around the neck and

28half the head. All other headcatches are illegal.

15. A Hondo over the horns is anillegal catch.

POLE BENDING

1. Contestant leaves the score linewith standing or running start.

2. Contestant may start either to theright or to the left of the firstpole and then run the remainder ofthe pattern accordingly.

3. The standard pole bending patternshall be as follows:

A. Six poles to be used.B. Each pole is to be twenty-one

(21) feet apart.C. First pole is to be twenty-one

(21) feet from the startingline

4. If a contestant knocks a poleover, there will be a five (5)second penalty for each poleknocked over that hits the ground.

305. Touching the poles will be

permitted by the horse orcontestant.

7. Poles will be raked or dragged atthe beginning of each age divisionor at the discretion of the eventdirector.

8. DISQUALIFICATIONS:

B. If a contestant misses a poleand has to back up or turnaround to get back into the

right position to continue.C. If a contestant crosses the

timer line before a completedpole bending pattern has beencompleted.

D. A contestant shall bedisqualified for breaking thepattern.

GOAT TYING

1. There is no set distance from thestarting line to the goat but aminimum of 50 yards is desirable.Arena conditions should governdistance.

312. Goat is to be tied to a stake with

rope 10 feet in length. Stake ispounded completely into the groundwith no part of it visible.

3. The contestant must be mounted ona horse and must ride from the

starting line to the goat,dismount from their horse, throwthe goat by hand, cross, wrap andtie and three (3) legs togetherwith leather string or piggingstring. No wire to be used as goatstring.

4. The contestant must stand back 3feet from the goat before the Judgewill start the 6 second time limiton the tie, for the goat’s legs to

remain crossed and tied.

5. If the goat is down then thecontestant reaches it, the goatmust be cleared of the groundbefore tie is made.

6. If contestant’s hand is on thegoat when the goat falls, the goatis considered thrown by hand.

7. Should the horse run over, ortouch the rope, with or withoutcontact to the goat, thecontestant will be fined a 10second penalty. If the goat shouldbreakaway any other time, it will

be left to the judge’s discretionwhether he/she will get a re-run.

8. Once a contestant has signaled

their tie complete, they may notagain touch the tie or the goat.

9. Goats shall not be used more than5 consecutive times.

10. The goat must be releasedwhen contestant crosses thestarting line as time begins.

BARREL RACING

1. Barrels are to be set inside ofeach stake in cloverleaf pattern.

2. Judges are responsible formeasuring, staking, and marking tothe barrels and to the startingline.

3. Barrels will be set at leastfifteen (15) from the fence.Measurement to be in proportionwith size of arena to be markedoff. Starting line will beshortened sufficiently to properlystart and stop contestant’s horse.

4. A contestant will not bedisqualified or penalized fortouching a barrel.

5. There shall be no talking to

flagmen, time keepers, or judgesduring the barrel racing event.

6. Two judges will be required to bepresent during the barrel racingevent with one Judge flagging theline and the other judge or theevent director watching to seethat a qualified cloverleafpattern is run.

7. The flagman must remain stationarywhile flagging a barrel race.

8. Should, for any reason, the barrelnot be placed on the marks or theflagman not be in the correctplace, things must be put incorrect order and all contestantswho run on the incorrect coursemust be re-run without penalty.

9. If a barrel is knocked down, theJudge not flagging line will resetthe barrel in the proper place.Judge may appoint responsiblepersons to replace barrels inproper position if barrels havebeen knocked down by a contestantduring contest run.

10. Barrel racing entries mustclose at the same time as all

34other sanctioned competitionevents. There will be a draw forpositions in each age division.

11. Barrels used must be regulationfifty-five (55) gallon metal

12. If contestant knocks barrelover, there will be a five (5)second penalty for each barrel

knocked over that hits the ground.

13. Contestant will bedisqualified if after crossing thescore line and being flagged bythe flagman, contestant re-crossesbefore completion of a truecloverleaf pattern is run.

14. If a re-run is given for anyreason, contestant will be droppedto the end of their event.

15. Re-run to be given to contestantat Judge’s discretion shouldcontestant be fouled. Anypenalties incurred during originalrun will be added to re-run. If anentire performance is re-runbecause of barrels not being inoriginal place, then allcontestant will run over and anypenalties are disregarded. Thisincluded electric timer failure.

16. If the electric timemalfunctions three (3) or more

35times per age division, then allcontestants shall receive a stopwatch time. All stop watch timeswill be recorded on the scoresheet with electric timer times.

17. Re-run will not be givenunder any circumstances ifcontestants equipment or horsefails.

18. When flagging a barrel race, theFlag Judge is to start by flaggingthe horse’s nose and to stop by

flagging the horse’s nose.

19. The gate will be closed on allbarrel races, no exceptions.

20. Barrels will be raked ordragged at the beginning of eachage division or at the discretionof the event director.
