The app will be used exclusively by Sales Representatives when interacting with clients. This is beneficial to ATS because it provides quick and close to accurate quotes for clients, which will create more sales. The app also benefits the sales representatives who can easily access previously given quotes, as well as connecting with their coworkers. Overall establishing a sense of camaraderie as well as business productivity. The app also acts as a quick form of communication between coworkers and clients. ATS BRAND & LOGOATS Printing & Branding has been providing customized apparel & promotional products to both local & national customers for 25 years. ATS offers a full line of services, including screen printing, embroidery, digital printing, promotional products, & fullfilment.

COMPANY OVERVIEW All screen printing, embroidery, and digital printing is performed within our facility, giving us greater control of the production process, quality, and customer service.

Originally founded in 1989, Advanced Tex Screen Printing, Inc. started out as single person start-up, operating out of a 1200 sq.ft. shop. Shortly thereafter, ATS Printing & Branding outgrew it’s first home and moved to it’s current location, which has since been expanded to nearly 20,000 sq.ft. and 30 employees.

The expansion made way for the addition of embroidery equipment, signage printing,& warehousing facility. In 2003, the merger of ATS & The Host Company provided customers with a single source for printing, embroidery, and promotional products. More recently, ATS has added a digital shop, offering full color digital graphics for banners, signs, displays, trade shows, as well as branding services such as logo business identity design.

ORIGINAL LOGO The logo relies on old design trends, such as a harsh drop shadow as well as unnecessary shadows within the ATS word mark. Similarly the tagline no longer reflects all of the services provided by the company

UPDATED LOGO I updated the ATS logo with a new color and tagline. I began by removing the unnecessary elements from the original such as the grid and drop shadows. To maintain a similar look I decided to use three lines of color Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. I feel that these colors represent a printing company and the blocks of color allude to the original grid. I created a new tag line that is more concise“Printing & Branding Services”. The original tagline was long and an eyesore, it also felt unprofessional.

COLOR The brands previous color scheme also did not reflect a business that offered primarily printing services. It suggested more of an industrial service such as construction or lawn care. Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow represent a printing logo aesthetic. I researched other printing service logos and found that these are generally colors used to represent their brand. I feel that these colors better represent the sort of services ATS offers and also brings a more updated look to the brand as well.

AUDIENCE The ATS Sales Quotes app is specifically for Sales Representatives within ATS. The app will aid Sales Representatives give quick and close to accurate quotes to potential customers. The app will be used when Sales Representatives are on site with clients. Also, this app will benefit ATS to provide quotes quickly for clients, creating more sales.

INTERVIEWS MISSY BEYERSales Representative Missy has been with ATS for 2 years as a Sales Representative. Currently, ATS Sales Representatives give quotes based on training and general knowledge of the products they offer. Several catalogs are currently used to keep track of costs, which can make it difficult to give a quick quote to clients. Sales Representatives like Missy make commission from their Sales, which means the quicker the quote, the better.

Screen printing services are available for many types of apparel. Missy feels the biggest issue when giving screen printing quotes to clients is explaining the how the color of t-shirts effects the cost of an order. The color of apparel is a very important factor, however Sales Representatives do not have access to a list of colors that are available among their many brands. The color cannot be shown to guest immediately and a guesstimate is generally given to client until a email of color options can be

sent. Apparel size is charged the same S-XL but any larger the client is charged more, ATS offers brands that carry shirts all the way to 7 XL.

For signage quotes, ATS does not have a set system. They believe making custom orders for clients is important and will figure out a way to accomplish the order desired. This means there is no limit to what the client desires, including custom shapes. Similarly, ATS does not charge rush fees for projects which makes their business unique and accessible to many more clients. Missy also explained that although customers are always valued, they do not offer returning clients discounts. After a quote is made to a client, it needs to be sent to the client as well as a customer service rep who helps finish the sale. This information is generally not shared with other Sales Representatives or anyone else within ATS.

KALLEE PARSONSales Representative Kallee has also been with ATS for 2 years as a Sales Representative and gave very similar responses as Missy. Kallee expressed that her biggest issue giving quotes are clients are often vague about what they are looking for. She also explained the issue with screen printing quotes how the color of garment effects costs.

Kallee also shared that quotes are given based on the Sales Representatives knowledge of products. There are many catalogs Sales Representatives work from, however there is not a compiled catalog of prices, brand, and garment options ATS has to offer. Kallee asked the app to include their top 50 sellers, which she felt would make the quote process go quickly.

THE BID & ESTIMATE COMPANIONThe Bid & Estimate Companion has been developed for ANY business that needs to quickly and accurately provide a cost estimate for their goods and service. This application will allow you to effortlessly create, and then either show or email the estimate directly to your client. There will never again be a need to tell your client that you will get back to them later with an estimate.

CLOSE QUOTECloseQuote is an IOS app dedicated to the

apparel decoration industry. CloseQuote

was created to fill the need of fast and

accurate quoting in both screen printing

and embroidery. No longer are pricing

charts and lenghtly calculations needed to

give a precise quote to a customer.

Tree StructureI took inspiration from the tree structure from the Bid &

Estimate Companion app. Organizing items by type and

diplaying information about cost per item.

Email FunctionI found the display of product details within the e-mail to be

very efficient. I also think this is a good way to share quotes with

clients and others.

& Estimate Companion app. Organizing items by type and

More Option The more option is clever allowing for less clutter on the tab bar.

The information located under more is important, however it

would take too much room.

Product CatalogA product catalog helps locate specific items quickly and can

function as a way to keep track of product inventory. The

information is broken down in a clean and simple way.

Action SheetThe action sheet allows for multiple options but is organized and

hidden until needed.

Garment Cost and QuantityThe app displays how much a garment costs per item. This

information is useful for a sales rep when breaking down price

costs for clients.

Quote CalculatorThe overall cost of each order is displayed, showing how each

element adds to the total cost of the order. This display is useful

for understanding where cost comes in.

Because the App will be used while Sales Representatives are on site with customer, the app should quick and easy to access. Upon launching the app for the first time, the user will be taken to a login screen. After the user logs into the app the first page to appear will be the welcome page with updates within the company relevant to Sales Representatives.

From that point, the user can chose from 4 other options located on the bottom tab bar including; recent quotes, email, screen printing quotes, and signage quotes. Screen printing and signage quotes are separated allowing the Sales Representative to quickly access each specific request.

The quoting process is similar to a calculator where based on either need, different options appear such as color, size, quantity, location, date etc. Each other these elements have a predetermined cost associated with them, Sales rep can type information or based chose from a list of options.

Sales Representatives also are able to save quotes for later revision as well as send quotes to clients. This will speed up the process of finalizing a deal with a client. Allowing for more time to make more sales.

EMAIL Email will function as a normal email, allowing Sales Representatives to follow up with clients or share quotes and information within ATS.

RECENT QUOTES Recent quotes logs in previous quotes made by Sales representatives. Sales Representatives can use search option located at the top of screen to locate specific quotes if they ever need to revisit or edit quotes.

COMPANY UPDATESThe home page shows company updates, allowing Sales Representatives to easily communicate in mass messages. Any Sales Representative can post to the home page, as well as respond to any message..

PROTOTYPE The paper prototype includes illustrations of each screen. Created to have users test the application in an app called InVision which simulates a real working app. The app has a tab bar and tree structure combination navigation model. The goal of this prototype is to show key options of the app as well as to understand the usability of the app in concept.

NAVIGATION MODEL A combination of Tab and tree navigations are used throughout this app. The Tab bar is located at the bottom of the application with the main features offered from the app including Home, Recent Quotes, Email, Screen Printing Quote and Signage Quotes. In the email, recent quotes, and some areas of the quote sections of the app you will find a tree navigation to organize information.

SCREEN GRID I chose to use a 10 column grid, based on some research I found this to be a commonly used grid for the iPhone 6 user. The iPhone 6 is the phone the majority of ATS Sales Reps have.

RESULTS PARTICIPANT 1 Participant 1 had issues locating both the screen printing and signage icons, so I let them know that the square icon repre-sented screen printing and the circle represented signage for now. Once that information was clear, they began with the first task and clicked the square icon.

They tried to click within each location box to input information but found that none of them are functional yet. I let them know that my concept was to be able to click and type options into the boxes. My participant then continued by clicking the save option located in the top right corner. Soon they also found that the client box was actually not functional but they located the edit quote option and then saved and found the email option located at the top right.

The second task went much the same but when it came to the save part they struggled. I realized it was because I didn’t put the save option in the top right like I did with the screen- printing page.

PARTICIPANT 2 With participant 2 I let them know before what the square and the circle represented. The first task went similarly to the first participant however my participant was confused when they hit the total button for screen printing and thought it went to a new page. I let them know that I was not able to add the scroll function I wanted in this prototype. My idea is that when you hit total the screen will scroll beneath the input information area and show you the total. You would also be able to scroll back up and edit the quote if needed. The participant then saved the quote as well as located the edit quote option and then emailed the quote.

Participant 2 also struggled with task 2; I believe this was because I was not able to edit my mistakes before I asked them to try the app. With Participant 2 I also asked them to locate the email section on the app and also check recent quotes and find the Joe Smith Quote. Participant 2 was able to complete these extra quotes quickly.

OVERALLI found from this usability study that I should be more consistent with buttons located on both the screen- -printing and signage quote options. Also I should also think about icons that easily represent save, email, and edit quotes. I should also create icons that represent screen printing and signage more clearly , the square and circle were just temporary though.

USABILITY STUDYTASK 1 I asked each participant to place a screen- -printing quote based on the following order: Qty: 50 t- -shirtsColors: 5 colors right and left arm Garment: Cotton t- -shirt I asked them to also to tell me the subtotal of the quote and also save this quote with clients name “Joe Smith”.However before the quote was sent, to edit quote from 50 to 30 t- -shirts and then email this quote to a customer service rep.

TASK 2 I then asked each participant to place a signage quote based on the following order:

Qty: 2Color: 7 color design Size: 11 X 17 in Weeding: Minimal I asked them to also save this quote with clients name “Joe Smith”. However before the quote was sent, to edit quote from 7 to 3 colors and then email this quote to a customer service rep.

HOMEThis icon takes its user back to the home screen. The home screen contains ATS business practice updates as well as cur-rent events.

RECENT QUOTESTo reflect its function, I illustrated a speech bubble with a dollar symbol inside it. This icon will bring its user to review recent quotes given to clients.

EMAILI illustrated a standard envelope icon to represent the email function. Sales Representatives can use this option to email quotes or other emails to any client or within ATS.

SCREEN PRINT QUOTE A squeegee and screen frame represent the screen printing quote process. These objects are used in the actual process of screen printing & best represent the option.

SIGNAGE QUOTEA printer is used to represent the signage quote process. The printer is a metaphor for the large scale printing process.

SEARCH A magnifiy glass represents the search function in the ATS app. This is a familiar icon among other apps.

DELETE An X represents the exit option on any page. Also used in search bar to represent a delete option.

NEW E-MAIL A pencil and paper represent the new e-mail option located on the toolbar under the email function of the ATS app.

DELETE QUOTEThe trashcan represents the delete func-tion that can be found within the email and recent quote options of the ATS app.

ADD POSTThe “+” symbol represents the add new post under the Home screen.

ACTION SCREEN This swoosh arrow can be found in the toolbar in the email option of the ATS app. Once pressed, it will bring up a pop up menu with edit order, add order, or cancel process.

ICON DESIGN ICON CONCEPT I sketched some ideas for my ATS app, I played with only using the A from ATS as well as using the entire ATS logo. I felt that these did not fully represent the visual brand as well as did not represent the function of the app. I also experimented with speech bubble shapes within the icon but I felt that the speech bubble could be misinterpreted as a social media icon.

FINAL ICON I wanted the app icon to reflect the ATS visual brand as well as be easy to locate on a Sales Representatives phone. I used the ATS logo and instead of using the tagline I chose “Sales Quotes”. I believe that by adding “Sales Quotes” beneath the logo made the function of the app easily understood.

MAIN ICONS The main icons contain consistancy in shape and style. Each icon has rounded corners and similar stroke weights. Five main icons were created to represent the main functions. I placed the two quoting options furthest to the right, they can easily be accessed by the right thumb or index finger.

SUB ICONS Sub icons reflect standard icons used in most email applications. I chose to follow the standard so that their functions were clear and easy to locate. These icons differ from the main icons in that they use one stroke weight and do not rely as much on a more curvilinear shape.

COLOR COLOR PALETTE The color palette consists 5 main colors; light gray, white, dark gray, cyan and magenta. These colors reflect the updated ATS logo and suggest productivity. The colors are clean and direct the user from general information to important options. The cyan and magenta are used to indicate button options. While white, light gray, and dark gray are for general text and icons.

TYPOGRAPHY FONT CHOICE I chose the standard font for iPhones, Helvetica Neue. My font will utilize 3 differnt font weights including; light, regular, and medium. Also 4 different font sizes will be used; 34 px, 28 px, 24 px and 22 px. Both the font and weight sizes will differentiate information and provide a sense of hierachy between the different information on the screen.

HOME The home page shows company updates, allowing Sales Representatives to easily communicate in mass messages. Any Sales Representative can post to the home page, as well as respond to any message.

Any Sales Representative is able to reply to any post, displaying their employee icon as well as time and date the comment was made.

The post screen displays the post message as well as any comments made by fellow Sales Represetatives.

RECENT QUOTES Recent quotes logs in previous quotes made by Sales representatives. Sales Reps can use the search option located at the top of screen to locate specific quotes if they ever need to revisit or edit quotes.

The quote page acts as a sort of invoice of each quote. Listing each item by item number, description, quantity, and item total. Sales Reps can also review the total.

Sales Reps are able to review quote as well as edit or add order to any quote.

EMAIL Email will function as a normal email, allowing Sales Representatives to follow up with clients or share quotes and information within ATS.

The new message option appears on the screen once the pencil and paper icon is tapped. E-mail functions much like the default e-mail app on iphones.

SCREEN PRINT QUOTE Quoting Screen specifically for Screen Printing, this screen will show determinants specific to the service allowing Sales Representations to fill in information based on clients needs. Colors are broken down by colors of the rainbow. Adding all color options could be confusing and complicated.

Each color is then broken down by shade. The darker the color, the more expensive a screen print service can be.

The garment option is picked after the color option. Once color is chosen, only garments of that color will appear under the garment section.

Garments are also organized by gender or category. Making it easier to find the most relavant garment for each client.

Each garment is described by the garment style , material and displays a picture preview of what the garment looks like.

SIGNAGE QUOTE The quoting screen specifically for Signage displays determinants specific to the service allowing Sales Representations to fill in information based on clients needs. Once determinants are entered, the app will calculate and give a close to accurate quote for the client. You can also add more services to each quote and edit quotes easily.

Signage price is determined by material, a list of each material is listed.

The next determining factor is the size of the sign. Sales Representatives will type in desired size and the ATS app calculates the Sq In and Sq In of the sign.

Toggles represent extra costs that may be involved on any quote. They can easily be swiped on or off.

By selecting the top right menu option, an action sheet will appear. Allowing Sales Reps to send quote as an e-mail, add order, save quote, or cancel menu.

By selecting add order, Sales Reps can chose between either service. Allowing for clients to chose both services in one quote will speed up the quote process.

CONCLUSIONMy app not only includes sales quotes for both signage and screen printing, but it also includes productivity features. The home page could be a great solution to company updates as well as mass messaging all Sales Representatives. Similarly the e-mail section would allow a quick check within the app to view recent e-mails and the Recent Quotes page allows Sales Representatives to review past quotes and edit them.
