Parents’ Evening dates, which take place on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th March, and to the INSET Day, Friday 27th March,

when school will be closed to children.

Scooters This week we had a near

miss reported to us, where a child using a

scooter to travel home from school nearly had a serious accident. If your

child is ‘scooting’ home without your supervision, please take a moment to talk

to them about crossing roads slowly and safely and also about being aware of other road users, for instance cars pulling out of

driveways. Children who continue to ride their scooters dangerously or

inconsiderately will not be permitted to leave their scooters on the school site, meaning they will need to be accompanied

to school by their parents.

Curriculum information We value your input into your children’s education and so aim to keep you informed

about what your children are learning and which equipment they will need each day.

Next week the termly letter will be coming home from the class teacher to provide you with this information. If you want further

information about our curriculum, it may be found on our school website:

http://somerspark.com/Curriculum/Our-Curriculum

Pupil Premium forms Earlier in the week, you will have received

a yellow form to check for entitlement to additional Pupil Premium funding to support the education of your children.

We’ve already had some forms returned for children who are eligible for the funding, so

if you are yet to do so please return the form by Tuesday 14th January at the latest.

Malvern Vale mornings Please can I remind you that school begins at 08:45 for children at Malvern Vale.

Children must be in the classroom by this point, so that teachers can shut the door to

begin the school day. Please aim to get your child into school for 08:30, when the school doors open, this will give plenty of

time for children to settle before the day begins.

Children arriving at any point after 08:45

will be marked as late, which will affect their attendance records.

Look at those smiles in Year 2 PE!

Uniform reminder With Christmas behind us, please can we remind you that children should not be wearing novelty hair accessories into

school, notably JoJo bows, or Alice bands with bobbles or cat ears attached.

We have also noticed some children wearing bracelets in the form of friendship

bracelets or charity rubber bracelets. These are also not part of our school uniform so need to be removed for school.

Thank you for your support in ensuring our pupils are really well presented in school.

Internet safety The nature of the internet means that there

are often games and apps which become very popular, very quickly. TikTok was one

of those which my Year 6 daughter was

talking about over Christmas, it is a music/dance based app where users

upload videos for other to watch. I wanted to find out a bit more so I visited www.nationalonlinesafety.com Included

later in this letter is a copy of their TikTok help sheet for parents- it’s well worth a read

if you know your child uses this game.

From the office… Online payments & trip consent

Following the success of the online

payment system, we have now introduced the option to consent online for trips and

events. You should all have received, and hopefully, set up your child's online payment account. If you haven't done so

yet, please contact Les McGee in the school office and she will help you with set

up and any codes you will need.

Due to the online consent option, when you

log onto your online payment account you will have the option to receive trip notifications and/or reminders via email

click these to opt in or out and save. You can alter your preferences by selecting

email options at any time:

As always, all trip/event letters are put on

our website so can be viewed at all times http://somerspark.com/School-

Office/Letters-to-Parents

By using the consent option on the online payment system you will no longer have to

return the consent slips on the letters. Eventually all letters will be put on the

online payment system and our website, so will no longer be printed off and sent home. We feel this is an opportunity to reduce the

amount of paper work being printed.

As always if you have any questions or

need any help regarding the online payment system please contact Les

McGee in the school office.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Chris Hansen
