    Variables For Exercise #6

Dependent Variable: Rap Rs liking rap

    Independent Variable: AGECAT Rs age

    Control Variable: RACE Rs race

Bivariate Hypothesis: The age of a person affects their attitude about rap. The older a person is the

less likely they are to enjoy rap music. The younger the person the more likely they are to enjoy rap

music. People in the middle ages are in transition to more adult music with less cursing. Rap was not

around for the older age group in their late teens to early adulthood to enjoy and embrace as they did

the music of their time. Rap has been around for more than two decades for the younger age group of

respondents to check the history of music that is older than them. The middle age of respondents has a

high number of people who like rap because they were in the time era it took off.

Multivariate Hypothesis: The age of a person affects their attitude about rap. There are more Blackrappers so more Black people listen to rap than white people. Rap was not around for the older age

group in their late teens to early adulthood to enjoy and embrace as they did the music of their time so

older Black people enjoy soul music or the music of their day. Younger White people enjoy rap almost

the same as Black people of the same age. Black people that are not fifty enjoy rap because the where a

part of the musical movement. White people enjoy rap music less than black people because they

cannot relate to the content to the same level as the black respondents.

Bivariate Discussion: A higher percentage of people enjoy rap in the age group 18-29 with 52.4 %of

respondents enjoying rap compared to 47.6 % disliking rap. The oldest age group of 40 and older dislike

rap more than they enjoy it with a strong majority of 78.5% not liking rap music. Even with a strongnumber of people in age group 18-29 the next ten year span of ages for the respondents showed a huge

decline in the percentage that liked rap with 61.3% not liking rap a 13.7% increase over that ten year age

span of people who already disliked rap. They highest percentage of people who like rap in any age

group is 52.4% in the 18-29 group of respondents while the highest percentage of people who dislike

rap was 78.5 in the 40 and older group of respondents.

Multivariate Discussion: White respondents dislike rap more than Black respondents with the age

group of 40 and older having the highest percentage of people who dislike rap with 82.0%.The highest

percentage of White respondents who like rap is 44.7% in the 18-29 age category compared to 81.6% of

Black respondents in the 18-29 age category who like rap which is a huge 36.9% difference in favor. Thelargest decline of Black respondents liking rap is after the age of 39 going into the 40 and older category

with a 31.3% decrease. The largest decline of White respondents liking rap happens during the same

age category as the Black respondents from the 30-39 category to the 40 and older category there was
