Attracting and Addressing

my Audience.

Imogen Ault

•My colour scheme is pastel colours that will attract the audience such as pinks and yellows.•‘Free posters inside!’ shows the audience that there’s more reason to get the magazine.•‘Katy Perry’ is mentioned in a cover line because she is popular with my audience. The cover line suggests that you can get to know her better and see what goes on in her day to day life.•The sprinkles on the lips are fun and exciting and appeal to the sweet toothed audience.•Menu strip at the bottom shows that there’s more inside to look forward to.•Embarrassing stories are included in the menu strip because my questionnaire results showed that the audience would want more than just music news.•The masthead is easily recognisable and appealing to the audience because of the Sans Serif font that is youthful and futuristic.•‘Vocal tips for aspiring singers’ suggests that the audience too can become talented singers and improve their talent.•My model retains eye contact with the audience, making the magazine seem more personal. She is a young girl, like my target readers will be so they can connect with her.

•I continued the Pop Magazine logo/masthead onto the contents page.•I used more interesting shapes to put the page numbers in, like pink hearts.•I put some of the pictures on the page at angles because it seems more fun and less controlled and organised.•In the background, I used hearts and buttons etc to decorate it and make it more fun and less blank.•I put the magazine’s website at the bottom of the page so that the audience can contact the magazine and feel more involved. •The band picture I used at the top of the page shows three teens having fun and laughing, and this attracts the audience because they look normal, like it could be them, and they can relate.•My cover lines, ‘Miley Cyrus lyrics advice,’ ‘Steal Selena’s Star Style,’ ‘Win Taylor Swift’s guitar,’ and ‘A day in the Life of Katy Perry,’ feature my audience’s favourite celebrities and suggests that the audience can get to know them more.

•‘Steal Selena’s Star Style,’ uses alliteration to appeal to the audience.•‘Then and Now Celebrity Pics,’ interests the readers because they get to see what their favourite celebrities once looked like, and see that the celebrities are more normal than they think.•I continued with the same colour scheme as on the cover, but this time using more of the pastel and bright pinks that are feminine and soft to attract the typically girly audience.•In my contents page and my whole magazine, I only used cover lines about females, and pictures of girl singers and musicians. This is because it appeals more to the target audience of young females, and they generally prefer listening to female musicians. It relates more to the audience and has a sense of empowerment for the girls who read it.•‘Win Taylor Swift’s guitar,’ attracts the readers because of the prospect of winning a something that belongs to a famous person. It makes the audience feel like they could be the one who wins it, even though there can only be one winner.•I have included poster pages for the audience to tear out and keep, so they can have pictures of their favourite celebrities.•There is a page dedicated to the audience who write in, and this provides audience interaction, so they don’t just read the magazine but get the chance to have their opinions and suggestions voiced.•I have also added a ‘Problems Solved’ page to the contents, where it addresses more serious issues that the readers have written in with. This will make them like the magazine more because they can confide and seek advice from the producers of the magazine, creating a bond between them.•I split the page numbers and summaries up because I didn’t want a big list of page numbers, just small and manageable chunks to make it more fun and less text heavy.

•I used high contrasting, eye catching images to attract the audience. •Pull quotes are used because there needs to be multiple entry points for the readers to tune into.•My heart page numbers are used again.•I have put the address for the artist’s website at the bottom of the page so her fans can contact her and feel involved.•‘Eve’s new album should be out soon so look out!’ interests the reader at the end, as they have just read about her and been inspired, and have now been told that she has an upcoming project that they can look forward to. •I have made sure to space out my ‘Q and A’ formatted article so it doesn’t look too text heavy. I left a space between each Q and A to make it more manageable.

•I have included captions to anchor the images.•Each image holds eye contact with the reader to make it more personal.•A drop capital is used at the top to show a different font, so everything is not the same.•A text hierarchy has been used, with the stand first in the largest font, then the drop cap and the main body of the text with the smallest font.•I have continued to use pastel colours throughout my magazine to create a soft and feminine feel to it.
