4 Audi A6 Saloon experience

Progress is revealed in an

especially lightweight construction.

How do you improve on a car like the Audi A6 Saloon? Simple. You just need

100 years of history along with a mass of developments, patents and

records. You need engineers who are able to squeeze maximum performance

from each drop of fuel. You need craftsmen who are able to create perfect

hand-made interior inlays. You need technicians who are prepared to lie in

luggage compartments and travel at speeds of 100 km/h in order to detect

and eliminate unwanted noise. A nd you need to keep coming up with excep-

tional ideas. Such as the innovative aluminium hybrid construction in th e new

Audi A6 Saloon. It significantly saves on weight and therefore delivers im-proved agility and lower consumption. We have of course been working

for years on this construction. Only in this way could we perfect the

Audi A6 Saloon and allow us to say:

The new Audi A6 with an aluminium hybrid body. Superior lightweight

construction.

The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 74 onwards.

For the new Audi A6 Saloon, lightweight is not just a word. It is an Audi key

area of expertise that i s applied to every part of the vehicle, and it reflects

the superior level of technology that we aim for and that you expect:

Aluminium die casting on the front strut mounts, aluminium components

for linkage rod, swivel bearing and wheel carriers reduce weight and increa

agility.

The use of aluminium in the doors, bonnet and luggage compartment lid

optimises overall weight and thus lowers consumption.

The aluminium hybrid construction means that approx. 20 % of the

Audi A6 Saloon bodywork is made from aluminium.

Audi A6 Saloon experience

Expressive design

revealed in every line.

What you see is a stunning saloon that immediately catches the eye with

light and elegantly smooth proportioning and sporty lines. What you do

not see is the enthusiasm of our developers and designers. It is fundame

to the unique silhouette of the new Audi A6 Saloon. Only the passion of th

whole team enables the building of a car worthy of the claim “Vorsprung d

Technik”.

This begins with a design full of character, and expresses its passion for t

nology in an aluminium hybrid concept that underpins the lightness of be

design that has until now been used only in the sports car segment and t

gives the new Audi A6 Saloon more agility and efficiency – perceptible evethe first glance.

Each angle and each line complement each other and transform the new

Audi A6 into a saloon that fascinates immediately from any perspective.

One of many examples is the tornado line that runs below the side win-

dows. A power ful stroke, stretching from the headlights to the rear, gives

the A6 Saloon a light and sovereign look.

Efficient performance

in a new light.

Progressive strength is not just visible on the new Audi A6 Saloon. It is also perceptible at e

ry kilometre of every journey. This comes from the weight-reducing aluminium hybrid constr

tion plus the powerful but highly efficient FSI®, TFSI® and TDI engines. These are characteri

by superior acceleration and pulling power. The 3.0 TFSI engine, for example, produces

440 Nm of torque – and at lower levels of consumption.

The optional quattro® with sports differential delivers the power to the road. For improved

traction and enhanced agility, drive-power is distributed across all four wheels. In front-wh

drive models, ESP with electronic cross-axle lock provides increased safety through targe

braking relevant to the driving situation, with improved traction and no loss of dynamics.

Optional full-LED headlights contribute to the Audi A6 Saloon efficiency by requiring less e

gy than conventional lighting systems. See and be seen LED technology not only provides arange of lighting options, it also gives the vehicle a unique appearance at any time of the da

and in any type of weather.

The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 74 onwards.

The 7-speed dual-clutch S tronic provides a high level of driving enjoymen

Lower drag loss and quick gear changes at low revs result in increased

efficiency.

The driver information system is equipped with an efficiency program to

reduce fuel consumption. A start-stop system switches off the engine wh

the vehicle is stationary and an innovative thermal management system

shortens the engine warm-up period. These are measures that benefit the

environment. The new Audi A6 Saloon embodies more than a new type of

lightweight design.

It represents a new type of driving.

You already notice from a distance the

“Vorsprung” of the new Audi A6 Saloon.

The impression is confirmed when breaking the

vehicle down to its individual parts. It then be-

comes apparent how lightweight and forward-

looking the construction really is. This has been

possible only through 20 years of experience

acquired at the Audi lightweight centre in

Neckarsulm. The Audi A6 Saloon is built not just

from steel, as in many cars of its class, but uses

an aluminium hybrid design. It is a lightweight

technology that until now has been mainly used

only for sports car manufacture, and with a re-

duced consumption that delivers greater agility

and thus increased efficiency.

Thanks to the aluminium hybrid design, lower

weights can be achieved across many areas of the

Audi A6 Saloon. This begins with the chassis and

suspension. Aluminium components for parts

such as the steering, swivel bearing and wheel

carriers contribute enormously to weight reduc-

tion. The bodywork is a further major area for the

use of aluminium. Aluminium is the material used

for the bodywork structure and all attached ele-

ments. Doors, bonnet, luggage compartment lid

and wings are all constructed from the rigid li

weight metal. Techniques are used in the body

work to enable varying levels of thickness and

material properties within a single element.

Material is then used exactly where it is requi

– without increasing weight in other areas. Th

result is a saloon w hose lower weight is clear

noticeable: through a sporty agility as well as

through comparatively low fuel consumption

and CO₂ emissions.

Why build a lightweight vehicle?Because it has heavyweight benefits.

The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 74 onwards.

28 MMI® – Multi Media Interface

Follow your intuition -

it will get you to the right destination.

Our promise of “Vorsprung durch Technik” is one

that we keep in every area of an Audi – as demon-

strated by the Multi Media Interface (MMI®)

which has undergone further development. The

MMI is used to operate a number of in-car media,

the navigation system and other comfort func-

tions. Until now, it has been easy to use the MMI

– now it is even easier.

Fewer buttons provide a better overview. The op-

erating buttons for radio and media are logically

located with the volume control. The other six

hard keys, for telephone or navigation functions

for example, are located around the central rota-

ry/push-button control – for intuitive operation.

Another new feature is the carousel layout in the

MMI display. This provides you with an even bet-

ter overview, making it even easier for you to get

to where you want to be. The optional MMI navi-

gation plus has a special feature: the unique MMI

touch. It is located to the left of the central con-

trol panel and is within comfortable reach,

particularly in combination with the new selector

lever. MMI touch offers, among other things, a

new and intelligent way of controlling the naviga-

tion functions – by “writing” letters or numbers

on the touch – sensitive screen with your f inger.

The system acknowledges the entry acoustically

after each character. You can also thumb through

the jukebox albums of yo ur music collection –

just one brief stroke of the finger suffices.

Menu:Display of the seven available

submenus which can also be

alternatively selected using the hard keys.

Information:Display of current traffic

information, access to online services such as

navigating using Google Earth images and

WiFi hotspot for Internet access (if Bluetooth

carphone online is also ordered).

Phone: The optionally available mobile phone

fitting (Bluetooth) and Bluetooth car phone

online have a selection screen containing call

lists, directory and selection interface as the

start-up setting.

Car: This function allows the direct control of

driver assistance systems, vehicle settings,

climate control, auxiliary heating and service.

touch using your finger. The system recognis-

es letters and numbers. Compatible with navi-

gation and telephone; additionally you can

browse through the albums of your music col-

lection in the jukebox with a brief stroke of the

The new Audi A6 Saloon uses TFSI® technology.

Its special quality: it combines the advantages of

FSI® with supercharging that ensures even better

power delivery. The 3.0 TFSI quattro generates a

powerful 220 kW. It uses an innovative mechani-

cally-driven supercharger with intercooling and

transforms the 6-cylinder engine into a compact

powerhouse – with moderate fuel consumption.

The peak torque of 440 Nm is sure to impress

you, as will the torque curve: At least 90 % of

torque is available across an engine speed range

of 2,900 to 4,500 rpm. Thanks to extremely

spontaneous responsiveness and exceptional

power delivery across the entire speed range, the

six-cylinder engine promotes a particularly dy-

namic driving style. The Audi A6 Saloon acceler-

ates to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds.

There is an excellent choice of engines for the

Audi A6 Saloon. Such as the 150 kW 2.8 FSI, that

in conjunction with the dual clutch S tronic trans-

mission and quattro® permanent all-wheel dr

accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.1 sec

onds. The 2.8 FSI is also available with front

wheel-drive and multitronic. All engines of co

comply with the EU5 emissions standard.

In just a few seconds you will understand why.

The supercharger is a central element for generating bo

pressure. Or put another way: it ensures outstanding tor

even at low engine speeds. The supercharger is a highly

grated, mechanical charging module situated between

two cylinder banks. The rotor unit, the electrically contr

led butterfly valve in the bypass bend and the engine-si

heat exchanger of the indirect charge air cooling system

The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 74 onwards.

One in every two Audi cars sold today is a diesel.

What sounds perfectly normal now was cause for

huge excitement 20 years ago, when Audi revolu-

tionised the market with the first 2.5 litre TDIengine. Since then, developments such as com-

mon rail technology have made TDI even more

efficient. Piezo injectors ensure the fuel is finely

and precisely distributed. Consequently, since the

first TDI, the engines have become around 30%

more economical, whilst specific output has in-

creased. So it was only logical that a diesel car

should then enter the world of motorsport. With

great success: in 2006, the Audi R10 TDI bec amethe world’s first diesel powered race car to win

the Le Mans 24 Hours – a victory which it has re-

peated several times over, most recently in 2010.

Two powerful TDI versions are available for the

Audi A6 Saloon, which of course operate with

intelligent common rail diesel technology. Wit

hefty 500 Nm of torque, the 180 kW 3.0 TDI

quattro accelerates your A6 Saloon from 0 to

100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. And the 150 kW3.0 TDI, with an extremely low consumption

5.2 l and CO₂ emissions of just 137 g, proves

that efficiency does not prevent driving pleasu

j

fuel several times into the combus-

tion chamber at pressures of up to

1,800 bar. In some cases, an injec-

tion process can involve the injection

of the tiniest of amounts weighing

less than a thousandth of a gram.

Pre-injection results in a “gentle”

combustion process and consequent-

ly excellent combustion acoustics

and agreeable engine runningcharacteristics.

What is the benefit of twoclutches?A double saving: time and energy.

The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 74 onwards.

The 7-speed dual clutch transmission facilitates

rapid gear shifting with hardly any perceptible in-

terruption in power flow and is particularly effi-

cient.

Walter Röhrl tested this technology back in 1985

in the Sport quattro S1 – and was suitably im-

pressed. An enthusiasm that Audi drivers share

to this day, because the modern S tronic changes

gear in a flash. To do this, two multi-plate clutch-

es serve the different gears. One large clutch

transfers the torque via a solid drive shaft to the

gearwheels of the odd-numbered gears. A sec-

ond compact clutch serves the even-numbered

gears via a hollow shaft. Both parts of the gear-

box are permanently active, but only one of them

is ever actually connected to the engine via the

closed clutch. For example, when the driver accel-

erates in third gear, the second part of the trans-

mission is already set in fourth gear. Changing

gear is extremely quick with the first clutch

opening while the second one closes. The me-

chanical gear switching takes just a few hun-

dredths of a second and with almost no interrup-

tion in power flow. It happens so quickly and

smoothly that the driver hardly notices.

Whether the driver chooses the fully automat

modes with the programme D (Drive) or S

(Sport) or changes gear manually with the op-

tional shift paddles – the gear change feels pr

cise and extremely smooth. But even with all

this dynamic performance, the S tronic still re

mains very efficient. High efficiency lowers bo

fuel consumption and emissions.

Everybody defines driving dynamics differently.

We define it like this: drive exactly how you feel.

With the standard Audi drive select you can

influence individual vehicle components at the

push of a but ton and so change the character of

your Audi.

Five modes are available to you: efficiency, com-

fort, dynamic, auto and individual, the latter

mode allowing you to determine yourself how

the associated vehicle components should be-

have. The comfort mode is especially suitable for

providing the most relaxed driving possible on

long journeys. The auto mode offers a generally

comfortable yet sporty driving experience. For

particularly sporty driving, for example on wind-

ing roads, there is the dynamic mode. The effi-

ciency mode on the TFSI® and TDI engines ena-

bles optimal consumption conditions. As a core

element in Audi drive select, the efficiency mode

is characterised by an updated shift program and

optimal operational energy usage.

In any mode, vehicle adjustments depend on the

equipment available. Audi drive select interacts

as standard with engine, transmission and steer-

ing. In addition, you can, when available, influ-

ence the adaptive air suspension with damper

regulation, the quattro® with sports differential,

the reversible seat belt tensioner (part of Audi

pre sense basic) and the cornering light. The en-

gine and gears react more spontaneously or in a

more balanced manner to movements of the ac-

celerator, depending on the mode chosen. More-

over, the engine speeds at which gear changes

take place are varied – in dynamic mode, they only

happen at higher engine speeds, while in comfort

mode they take place at lower ones. The steering

can also be adapted to the driving situation, from

sporty and firm to comfortable. The threshold at

which the optional reversible belt tensioner (part

of Audi pre sense basic) is triggered is adjuste

in the dynamic mode. The vehicle height and

damping forces of the damper regulation can

varied using the adaptive air suspension. The

optional sports differential distributes the d

force variably to the rear axle to attain a high

el of agility and acceleration performance wh

cornering. In addition, t he cornering light ac-

companies the selected mode with its adapte

swivelling response.

With quattro®, we have created one of the best all-wheel driv

Of course, that was not good enough for us.

on the road and threaten to spin, then the power

is transferred to the other axle – automatically

and permanently distributed through the centre

differential. The basic distribution is 40:60 – 40%

of the power goes to the front axle, 60% to the

rear. The benefit is better traction during acceler-

ation and improved safety due to exceptional

grip. So much for the technology. But what

makes quattro unique is really the driving feel.

“As if you are stuck to the road,” some customerssay. We put it like this: quattro gives you more

feel for the road and thus increased safety.

The optional quattro® with sports differential

further reinforces this unmistakeable quattro

feeling. Vehicles tend to experience understeer

when steering or driving into corners. This is a

normal physical process: A moving object oppos-

tion has been adopted. When accelerating into a

corner, the load on the front axle is reduced and it

therefore transfers less lateral force to the tyres

– the vehicle understeers. With the sports dif fer-

ential on the rear axle, the tendency to unders-

teer is largely counteracted. This is because the

quattro rear axle differential has been extended

left and right by a clutch system with two gear

levels. They ensure that the individual wheels on

the rear axle receive different levels of torque. The clutches are activated by an electro-hydraulic

actuator. Depending, for example, on the

steering angle, lateral acceleration, yaw angle

and driving speed, the system calculates the

right distribution of wheel torque for any driving

situation. In this way the power is specifically

channelled to the outer rear wheel, when

steering or accelerating into a corner. The effect:

The variable left and right driving forces also

help stabilise the steering and the usual st ee

corrections are hardly necessary.

quattro® with sports differential

continuously varies the amount of

driving force distributed to each

rear wheel and ensures high corner-

ing agility and impressive driving

dynamics.

Day and night.

What is the difference?

The human eye is one of the most sensitive senso-

ry organs. However, sometimes it may still miss

something. For example, when it is dark or you

have been dazzled. We always do our best to help

you in these situations. The optional night vision

assistant with highlighting of detected pedestri-

ans records the area in front of the vehicle using athermal imaging camera and marks any identified

pedestrian located between 15 and 90 metres

away with yellowing highlighting in the image.

Should the system detect an imminent collision

between the vehicle and an identified pedestrian,

then the colour of the marking will change to red

and a warning tone will sound. The night vision

assistant can be switched on or off via a button

on the rotary light switch. Pedestrian marking,

warning signals and picture contrast are config-

ured in the CAR menu. The optional head-up dis-

play forms a useful comple ment to the night vi-

sion assistant. At any time it quickly projects aclear, full-colour virtual image beyond the wind-

screen. The image content is portrayed directly

within the driver’s field of vision minimizing any

driver distraction. The head-up display therefore

contributes to greater traffic safety. The image

content is configured via the CAR menu. As well as

displaying current driving speed and navigation

data, information from the driver assistance sys-

tem and speed limit data can also be shown.

When the night vision assis tant with highlighting

of detected pedestrians is activated and a poten-

tial danger is detected, a warning symbol appears

in the head-up display. The head-up display canbe adjusted to your seating position to optimise

viewing.

Pedestrians identified in the detection

area are highlighted in yellow.

Less energy, more light:the Audi A6 Saloon with all-LED headlights.

The Audi R8 was setting standards as early as

2008 as the first sports car with all-LED head-

lights.

Now this special lighting is also available

for the Audi A6 Saloon on request. All-LED head-

lights not only require less energy than standardlighting systems, but also provide a brighter light

which is perceived to be much more pleasant.

The dipped beam consists of a distinctive line of

three individual light modules. This makes the

Audi A6 Saloon unmistakable, even at night. The

main beam, daytime running lights and indica-

tors are also made in LED technology. The use of

the same material for all functions makes com-

pletely new lighting effects possible. The new

Audi A6 Saloon, therefore, has the right light for

every situation: It has a motorway light which, atspeeds above 110 km/h, automatically almost

doubles the range of the light cone (from approx.

70 m at dipped beam to 120 m with motorway

light). In addition, the A6 Saloon has a combined

daytime running light/indicator light unit and an

all-weather light which makes conventional fog

lights superfluo us. The individual LED modules

are skilfully controlled to redistribute the light,

reducing glare from rain or fog.

Daytime running lights Dipped beam Indicator

Conventional light bulbs reach temperatures of up to 300 °C. Due to their sophisti-

cated technology, LED lights are somewhat more sensitive and should not get hotter

than 150 °C. Because of the engine, the temperature of the area around the head-

lights is already around 120 °C. In theory, then, LED headlights would need an addi-

tional cooling system to be able to work. However, the Audi engineers did not want to

spoil the good low-energy credentials of the LED headlights, so they quickly developed

something completely new: a fan which directs heat away from the LED chips. The spe-

cial feature of this fan is its additional benefit. The high operating temperature of

standard bulbs means that they can defrost the headlights, which LEDs cannot. The

newly developed fan directs warm air from the LED chips directly to the headlight

clear glass cover and thus defrosts it and prevents it from misting up.

Because in an

emergency, asecond is 0.9seconds too long:

Audi pre sense. The new Audi A6 Saloon does not only come

with many new technical innovations but also,

upon request, with something extra special: a

sort of sixth sense – or Audi pre sense. Various

vehicle systems categorise different driving

situations and, where necessary, implement

actions for preventive occupant protection or

for collision reduction.

Radar sensors are fitted at the front and rear (de-

pending on the equipment) and gauge the area in

front of and behind your Audi A6 Saloon. A videocamera also monitors the road in front of you.

This is located in the area of the internal mirror –

the highest possible point inside the vehicle – and

delivers 25 pictures per second with a resolution

that has yet to be matched in the field of auto-

motive engineering. In addition, the ESP control

unit transmits further data. Using these different

sources of information, Audi pre sense can create

a very realistic picture of the vehicle’s surround-

ings.

Audi pre sense basic includes various preventative

passenger protection systems that are activated

in the event of a critical driving situation. They

include tensioning of the front seat belts, activa-

tion of the hazard warning system and closing of

the windows and, if present, the sliding roof.

Audi pre sense front additionally monitors the

traffic ahead via the radar sensors of the optional

adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function. In

critical situations, the Audi braking guard con-

tained with it warns the driver and if necessa

increases the braking power. In extreme cases

the preventative protection systems are activ

ed.

Audi pre sense rear monitors the traffic behi

the vehicle with the help of the rear sensors o

the optional Audi side assist.

Audi pre sense plus is included if ordering the

tional adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go fun

tion and Audi side assist. In addition to the futions of Audi pre sense front, Audi pre sense pl

activates the Audi braking guard in certain situa

tions when a collision is unavoidable and initia

a full braking action to minimise the severity o

the crash as much as possible.

you will find our most outstanding employees workingin the area of vehicle safety.

The development of a new vehicle includes a

number of crash tests. At first as virtual tests on

computers, then later with the car itself in thehalls of the Audi Vehicle Safety Department. Our

engineers do not just evaluate data from their

own series of tests but also data from real acci-

dents recorded by accident researchers and

scientists from the Audi Accident Research Unit

(AARU). The department was founded in 1998

and works together with the police and doctors

to establish the most accurate information pos-

sible about accidents. With the help of this infor-mation, our series of tests is continually being

refined.

Vehicle safety at Audi focuses on people. This

means we develop anticipatory systems that

support you during every journey and that will

help you to avoid accidents where possible. To

achieve this, we put ourselves in your position and

it is from this basis that our technical innova-tions arise – along with the required safety tests.

This also means that completely new tests some-

times need to be developed to check the new

technology. That is why we have designed a new

methodology for research into anticipatory Audi

pre sense systems which is called “Virtual Test

Drive”. On a test track, drivers can be shown vir-

tual obstacles and other vehicles via video gog-

gles and, in this way, many critical driving ma-noeuvres can be reenacted in a short amount of

time.

regulates slowing down, starting up and crawling through traffic.

At all times radar sensors, a video camera and the sensors from the

parking assistant monitor the area around the Audi A6 Saloon.

Should they detect an obstacle, the driver is alerted by a signal tone

and a display on the driver information system.

Audi active lane assist¹ supports you when travelling at speeds of

around 60 km/h or above if you inadvertently drift out of your lan e,

for example, through inattentiveness. Before you cross over the

lane marking which is detected by the camera behind the wind-

screen, a gentle, corrective steering movement occurs. If the indi-

cator has been activated, there is no correction. In the MMI, you

have the choice between two system settings (steering time early

[A] or late [B]).

If your vehicle is fitted with the optional head-up display, a display

also appears there. Identification of lane markings by the sensors is

dependent on the weather, lighting and quality of the marking.

Audi active lane assist can, therefore only provide assistance to the

driver – who is naturally required to remain attentive while driving.

Audi side assist including Audi pre sense rear¹. Displays are inte-

grated into the exterior mirrors. Operational from a vehicle speed of

30 km/h, Audi side assist uses two radar sensors (with a range of

approx. 70 m) to measure the vehicle’s distance from other detected

vehicles, as well as the speed difference between them. If Audi side

assist classifies the speed difference and distance as being critical inthe event of a lane change manoeuvre, a display will appear in the

respective exterior mirror (information stage). This display will only

be noticed by looking at the exterior mirrors. When the indicator is

on and Audi side assist detects a vehicle approaching and rates the

situation as critical, the relevant display on the exterior mirror

flashes repeatedly (warning stage). The brightness of the display

can be set to one of five levels in the MMI.

110 km/h. The static turning light automatically switch-

es on if the indicators have been engaged for a while at

a low vehicle speed and illuminates the new direction in

which the vehicle is travelling. The variable headlight

range control features a camera on the interior mirror

which registers sources of light from other road users.

The range and width of the headlamp beam continuous-

conditions, ensuring that the headlights provide good

visibility without dazzling other road users. The head-

lights also have 3 different light distribution modes

which are activated depending on the vehicle speed:

town light, motorway light and country light. These

three light distribution modes from the adaptive light

and intersection light systems are also controlled by a

vehicle support system based on navigation data, and

with the aid of stored route data from the optional

MMI navigation plus with MMI touch. The convenientfunctions of the lighting assistant are supplemented by

of light from the front lighting system, and by the

right and left-hand drive modes

tween main and dipped beams, an all weather light

function to reduce the risk of the driver being dazzled

when visibility is poor (in fog, rain or snow) and an ad-

Assistance systems

Audi pre sense basic

networking the different vehicle systems enables driving

situations to be categorised and, where necessary, ac-

tions to be implemented for preventive occupant protec-

tion. These include: belt tightening, activating the haz-

ard warning system and closing the windows and – if

fitted – sliding roof

ing to a stop, automated restart at driver’s request;

4 distance levels and 3 driving modes (comfort, dy-

namic and standard) can be selected individually. In ad-

dition to the Audi pre sense basic functions, Audi pre

sense front implements preventive occupant protection

measures when at risk of an imminent frontal collision.

Working within system limits, Audi pre sense front uti-

lises the front sensors of the adaptive cruise control with

Stop&Go function to carry out its detection tasks; in-

cludes Audi braking guard which observes the vehicle’s

surroundings and then warns the driver of any imminent

threat of front-end collision with the vehicle a head and

implements preventative occupant protection measures.

Audi pre sense plus is included if Audi side assist is also

ordered. In addition to the functions of Audi pre sense

front, Audi pre sense plus activates the Audi braking

guard in certain situations when a collision is unavoida-

ble and initiates a full braking action to minimise the

severity of the crash as much as possible

Audi side assist including Audi pre sense rear

working within system limits, the lane change assistant

helps the driver when changing lanes (range of function30-250 km/h). Displays are i ncorporated into both exteri-

or mirrors. Audi side assist uses 2 radar sensors to measure

distances between other detected vehicles as well as

speed differences between them. If Audi side assist classi-

fies the speed difference and distance as being critical for

a lane change manoeuvre, a display will appear in the re-

spective exterior mirror. In addition to the functions of

Audi pre sense basic; Audi pre sense rear, working  with-

in system limits, uses the rear sensors of Audi side assist

to detect a possible rear-end collision. Audi pre sense

plus is included if Audi adaptive cruise control with

Stop&Go functioning is also ordered. In addition to the

functions of Audi pre sense front, Audi pre sense plus

activates the Audi braking guard in certain situations

when a collision is unavoidable and initiates a full brak-ing action to minimise the severity of the crash as much

as possible

corrective steering intervention (choice of earlier or late

with integral thermal imaging camera; when driving at

night, this system extends the driver’s range of visibility

beyond the light provided by the dipped beam; records

thermal images; an image processing algorithm then

evaluates the camera’s data and marks any persons it

has detected in yellow in the optional driver informatio

system’s colour display; the marking changes to red and

a warning tone is emitted if the system, by analysing th

movement and position of the person it has detected,

considers that there is a possible risk. Additional warn-

ing symbol in the head-up display (can be ordered as an

option). Image quality is affected in poor ambient cond

tions

Head-up display

projects required information relevant to the driver from

the assistance systems, navigation or warning symbols

onto the windscreen in the driver’s direct field of vision;

height adjustable; provides a multicoloured display with

good contrast and minimal distraction from the road

Speed limit display

camera based recognition and display of speed limits, in

cluding temporary speed limit displays (e.g. above mo-

torways). Additionally, within system limits, there is an

evaluation of the particular situation in wet conditions,

and speed limits displayed depending on the time of th

day, road works and when using a trailer. If a sign has

not been recognised by the camera the speed limit dis-played will be taken from the navigation data (where

available). Additional warning symbol in the head-up

display (can be ordered as an option)

Emissions standard EU5

92/21/EEC. Optional equipment may increase the car’s unladen weight

drag coefficient, whereupon the possible payload limit and the top spee

will be reduced accordingly.

³ The engine’s power output always goes down with increasing altitude.

At 1,000 m above sea level, and for every additional 1,000 m, deduct 10

from the weight of the outfit (trailer load limit + gross weight of the tow

vehicle). Figure for trailer load limit applies to factory-fitted trailer towi

hitch. If using the vehicle with a trailer towing hitch for commercia l pu

poses, a digital tachograph may be required under certain conditions.

⁴ A vehicle’s fuel consumption and the CO₂ emissions do not just depend o

how efficiently the vehicle uses the fuel, but a re also affected by driving

haviour and other non-technical factors. CO₂ is the greenhouse gas prim

responsible for global warming.

⁵ Regulated.

⁶ We recommend using Super sulphur-free unleaded fuel 95 RON accordi

to DIN EN 228. If this is not available, use sulphur-free regular unleade

91 RON com plying with DIN EN 228; power output will be slightly

reduced.

⁷ We recommend using sulphur-free diesel complying with DIN EN 590.

If this is not available, u se diesel complying with DIN EN 590.

⁸ The figures given were calculated using the specified measuring proced

The figures do not refer to one individual vehicle and do not form part of

offer, but rather should be used purely for purposes of comparison betwe

the different vehicle models.

Vorsprung durch Technik is the claim to which

the Audi brand is committed. It includes giving

careful consideration time and again to eachdroplet of fuel. For many y ears, Audi has been

translating this claim into tangible reality on all

its models – and as a developer of numerous in-

novations is having a lasting influence on effi-

ciency standards in automotive engineering.

Whether with the TDI, FSI® and TFSI® engine

concepts, with transmission technologies or with

the Audi Space Frame (ASF). To achieve on-goingimprovements in energy consumption, a number

of intelligent efficiency measures – specially tai-

lored to each vehicle – are combined. Efficiency

with a methodical approach – individual and

standard.

A commitment which is already leading to c

onvincing results. Audi already has many models

in its current range that emit less th an 140 gCO₂/km. An effective way of reducing emissions.

And just as impressive as the fact that a large

proportion of Audi vehicles already meet the

strict EU 5 emissions standard.

All this demonstrates the know-how of Audi –

and is what drives us on every day to harmonise

sportiness and efficiency in the future.
