AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

The film magazine front cover & film poster

Page 2: Audience feedback powerpoint

1. Does the film poster give an insight into the storyline?

Page 3: Audience feedback powerpoint

My feedback from this question is very much positive as nobody selected the ‘No’ option. There was a tie between yes and sort of and I think this may be because some of the people I had asked had not seen the trailer so had absolutely no knowledge of the film; this makes it interesting though because it still shows that the film poster gives a slight indication into the storyline. Although if I were to make a film poster in the future I would maybe need to make more links between the trailer and the film poster to give even more of a hint into the story of the film.

2. Does the film poster & magazine follow the typical codes & conventions?

Page 5: Audience feedback powerpoint

I gained very positive feedback from this question because 100% of the people that I asked answered ‘yes’. This gives me confidence that I have followed the codes and conventions of typical magazine front cover and film poster making well. The comments which I gained for the magazine techniques were that there are many cover lines, a striking image and large headers and images. I think that this feedback from the audience proves that they themselves know some things about the typical magazine layout and they have identified that I have tries to use the same kind of factors. The response I received from the poster was that I put institutional information right at the bottom of the page, included star ratings and a tagline. These are all factors which you would expect to see on a professional film poster so I am glad that I included them.

3. Is the writing clear & readable on both products?

Page 7: Audience feedback powerpoint

Again the feedback which I received on this question was overall positive because over 80% of people said that the font was readable on both products. The reasons which they gave for this answer was because I highlighted the text on the main article in the magazine and because I used black fonts on white backgrounds and white fonts and black backgrounds. This is the reason why I used the techniques written above because I wanted the audience to be able to read the magazine and information on the film poster easily so that they aren’t missing out on any new knowledge. I think that if I were to make a film poster or magazine front cover in the future I would need to make the writing a little more bold so that it can stand out against the background more making the text more readable.

4. If you walked past this poster in the street would it catch your eye & why?

Page 9: Audience feedback powerpoint

I got a very mixed response from this question although the majority was positive. The reasons why they said that it would not catch their eye in the street is because there is a little bit too much going on in the poster and they would not be bothered to look at everything on it. I think that this is a fair answer to the question although everything on the poster adds to the storyline of the film or gives information to the audience so there is really anything I could think to take out. Also the clutter on the film poster may represent what the protagonist feels mentally as he is having to think about fame and the fact that he is being stalked. The feedback that I received from the ‘Yes’ option from the question said that it was because ‘Life Drop’, the reviews and the actors/ actresses names caught their eye. It is important to advertise the main actors/ actresses starring in a film so that their fan base are kept in the loop and are encouraged to go and see the film. Also because the ratings given to the film are so high and from highly regarded sources, this encourages the audience to go and see the film as it is said to be worth the watch meaning that they won’t be wasting their money.

5. If you walked past this magazine in the street would it catch your eye & why?

Page 11: Audience feedback powerpoint

100% of the people asked said that the magazine would catch their eye if they walked past it in the street. They said that this is because it looks interesting and that the main image is colourful and striking. This is exactly why I used this effect on the main image because it is different to other images on magazines currently on the market and because the saturation and contrast have been altered it makes the colours more intense and eye catching. Also because the image is also a close up shot it means that his eyes are more striking and they look like they are staring right at you.

6. What is your favourite element of the film poster & magazine ?

Page 13: Audience feedback powerpoint

On the film poster the most popular element which was brought forward was the use of different images and the way that they are stacked inside Polaroid's. I think that this may have appealed to the audience because it is different to any film poster which are currently out making it eye catching and also because it ties in with the film trailer really well because there is a shot of Becca laying out the Polaroid's on the table and also the snap shot images. The audience also said that they liked the kiss mark; again I think that this is because it links in with the trailer and it is because it is Becca’s signature move. In the magazine they said that their favourite parts were the masthead, the main image and the film roll at the bottom of the page. The film roll I thought was also a good feature in the magazine because I thought that it could be part of the magazine’s house style so it could feature on a lot of the issues; this is because the film posters within the film roll can be changed when ever you want to and also because it keeps them all together and tidy on the front cover

7. Can you see a link between the two products? E.g colours

Page 15: Audience feedback powerpoint

I received mixed reviews from these answers but the majority of people said that ‘Yes’ they could see a link between the magazine and the poster. The reasons that they gave for this was the font for Life Drop is the same and the protagonist is in them both wearing the same outfit. I did think of some other links myself which I thought people may pick up on like the effect used on the images are the same and the font used on the headlines for the magazine and the reviews for the poster. I think that people may not have spotted these because they are only small links which may not be apparent at first, until you really look.

8. What do you think could be improved in both products?

Page 17: Audience feedback powerpoint

I think that I agree with all of the comments which have been said because they would all definitely benefit the advertisement of the film. If I were to make a film magazine front cover or a film poster again in the future I would try and keep these improvements given now in consideration because they will help me improve my techniques and skills.

Conclusion

Overall the feedback which I have received from my target audience has been extremely positive. There are some areas which I will need to work on, e.g. Making font stand out, but I will work on this to make it right.
