Audio Technician (Games) The first and most important thing you can do is write a plan. Because without a plan, you can end up doing things that don’t actually help you on your journey, and if you’re eager to get into the industry, you can’t afford to waste any time. There are very few audio job roles within the game industry because just one audio engineer can serve many teams. Actually, it isn’t rare to have only one Audio Engineer working for a gigantic game workshop. Many studios don’t even have fulltime audio engineers, they use them in the same way as royalty’s, they mostly don’t keep them on a payroll, instead they get paid for the work they submit. An Audio Engineer at work, he or she may come across some of the activities listed below: look through audio libraries on sites in order to find sound effects to use as reference material. Have a meeting with the game team to learn what SFX may be needed. Try to record some foley in a studio or outside, in open placed with very little wind. Try and get some education, it’s not mandatory but it can go a long way, and definitely help with experience. make sure you have a the sufficient programs and equipment. Once editing, do not forget to combine sounds with each other to enforce power and add depth. An education isn’t necessary for this job role either. There are however, real sound engineering degrees available at University, for those that want their experience on
