German uses 4 other letters as well. You may or may not choose to use them, as there have substitutes for each of them.
Äӓ = ay/eh, depending on how you use it. Pretty much the same as German ‘e:’
head/Gӓste
•the dots over the letters are called an “Umlaut.”
•They indicate a change in the sound of the vowel.
•If you don’t want to write your words with an Umlaut, simply write an ‘e’ after the letter.
• Beispiel: Gӓste = Gaeste
Beispiele:
1.Äpfel
2.Maedchen
3.Kӓfer
4.Baer
Öö = uh/eu, similar to
Blur/hören
This sound is closer to French than it is to English
Üü = a vowel sound we don’t have in English!
It is closest to a combination of the sounds “ee” and “ew”
Beispiele:
1.Tür
2.Kueche
3.hübsch
4.luegen
Das “Ess-tsett”
Is the name of this curious creation: ß•It makes the same sound as “ss.” The 2 are often interchangeable (more on this later)
•dreißig/dreissig
•beissen/beißen
