    Summer 2013

    An Unforgettable Week

How can four days of horseback riding,

hiking, meals around a picnic table,

    chapel services, lumpy bunk beds,

    mountain scenery, chilly mornings, and

    sunburns impact you?

For the 37 youth who attended Aim

Rights Teen Camp in Colorado this

summer, the answers varied, but one

thing is for sure: their lives were greatly

impacted. If you helped to sponsor ateen to attend camp, thank you for making

    such an unforgettable week possible.

You can read several teens personal

comments about camp in the colorful

    column to the right.

    Move Over, Talent Show

A highlight for many campers is the

talent show held on the final evening of

    camp. Groups spend hours planning

and practicing for their few minutes in

the spotlight and design creative props

and costumes. The talent show is seri-

    ous business!

This year the talent show was scheduled

as usual on the final evening of camp.

However, it didnt appear to be the high-

light of the evening, despite the smiles,

    laughter, and clapping.

    Give Him the Glory

What preceded the talent show was the

highlight of the evening. For the final

chapel session, Darrell asked youth to

share what God had been teaching them

throughout the week. As story after

story poured out, it was beautiful to not

only hear how God had worked, but also

to see teens move around the room togive hugs and affirm and encourage one

    another.

The time of sharing so impacted a teen

that he commented afterwards, This was

my talent show. I dont need a talent show!

To him, the highlight was the final

chapel session, and a talent show paled

in comparison. He also said, Thank you

for what you all do. Keep on doing it.

    Camper Comments:

    I HAVE FOUND GOD IN

    MY LIFE I LEARNED HOW

    TO GET ALONG WITH

    PEOPLE AND HOW TO

    FORGIVE PEOPLE I

    GOD AND WORTH BEING

    EXPERIENCE I NEVER

    KNEW WHAT FORGIVE-

    NESS WAS UNTIL I CAME

    TO CAMP WHEN I FIRST

    CAME I WAS CONFUSED

    AND LOST BUT I FOUND

    THE LIGHT GO HOME

    AND BE THANKFUL FOR

    THE CHURCH AND

A pastor in a church ministry to chil-dren and youth in the Dominican Re-public said, Hacemos presencia; cuando no

podemos ir con algo en la mano, hacemospresencia. Translated, that means: Wepractice presence; even when we have nothingelse to give, we practice presence. 1

Stephanie Reed has learned what itmeans to practice presence in the twoyears that she has been mentoringArianna. While Stephanie has some-times felt inadequate with situationsthat come up, she has realized, I cant doit on my strength and wisdom, but have to com-

pletely rely on Jesus and the Holy Spirit to guide

    me.

One of the joys Stephanie has experi-enced is getting a text or phone callfrom Arianna letting her know how asituation has changed for the better andhow God has worked. Another rewardof mentoring has been getting a big hugand thank you for what you have helped themthrough.

Arianna is grateful that Stephanie givesme a shoulder to cry on when I need one. She isalways there when I need someone to talk to.Through her times with Stephanie,

Arianna has started to follow God andhas learned that no matter how many timesyouve failed, He is always going to love you.

Want more information about being amentor? You, too, can make a differ-ence in the life of a child or teen. Callour office or e-mail [email protected].
