These are the current Neighbourhood Action Team priorites for the

South wards of the Isle of Axholme;- St Martins Church, Church St/East Lound Road, Owston Ferry: Anti-social behaviour, Underage drinking and Criminal Damage.

We have received reports of youths congregating in the grounds of St Martins Church in Owston Ferry. This tends to be mainly on an evening and due to it‘s location it is not easy to see them from the main road leading up to the church. This makes it an ideal area for groups to gather and evidence of empty bottles of alcohol and other litter have been

found. There are also reports of damage the roof of the church and flowers being cut and removed. The Neighbourhood team are making regular patrols of the area and several youths have been spoken to regarding the reports received and have been moved on. Blackmoor Road/Lowcroft Ave/Marlborough Ave, Haxey: Neighbourhood issues, nuisance scooters.

There have been reports in the past of youths behaving in an anti social manner at the above locations. There are also reports of youths on scooters riding in an erratic manner. Any persons found committing any offences will be dealt with and where relevant, there is the opportunity to police staff to seize scooters at a cost to the owner. Neighbourhood

staff will continue to patrol the area and would encourage anyone with any information to contact us. There has been a report of young persons throwing ‗water bombs‘ at a local resident‘s address, enquiries identified those responsible who have been advised regarding their conduct. A 161, Low Burnham, caravan site: public order, criminal damage.

Low Burnham is awaiting confirmation whether a caravan site is going to commence just off the A161. Police will monitor the situation and respond to any public disorder or criminal offences until the matter is finalised. There has been on-going work between the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and Facebook after concerns about the safety of many young users of the site and to highlight other issues. Working together CEOP and Facebook have developed an application which will enable users to download a ‗ClickCEOP‘ button and place it within

their profiles. It would be ideal for users of Facebook to add the ClickCEOP app to their profiles. Visit www.facebook.com/ceop to do this, and enable you to have direct access to advice and guidance should you ever need it. The app will be live from Monday 12th July 2010.

I have visited all schools within the area and delivered the Lifestyle presentation and I would like to wish all the participants the best of luck. I will be in touch during the summer break to see how you are doing. You still have time to

enter just go to www.humberside.police.uk/lifestyle or contact 01482 220700. The On Target football for boys and girls aged 8-19yrs – FREE – has started on Friday nights at Epworth Leisure Centre

Multi use games area. 7-15pm to 8-15pm for years 5-8, then 8-15pm to 9-15pm for years 9+. Please come along and participate. Members of the neighbourhood team endeavour to make some of the nights to give support and encouragement. Officers continue to work with the local authority and youths to support diversionary activities for youths to prevent them offending. This includes support of the playing field associations in fundraising activities.

Neighbourhood officers when duty times permit will actively engage with Neighbourhood watch meetings. PC 1839 Starbuck has organised dates with local schools within the ward to present the Lifestyle Project to the pupils, which is aimed to encourage the children to participate and possibly win some great prizes, anyone wishing to take part

should take a look at the website, www.humberside.police.uk/lifestyle or contact 01482 220700. The Neighbourhood team has attended several events run by the local community and have enjoyed our time engaging with the community. PC Starbuck has also made visits to various schools within the ward and given a variety of talks on

subject like, stranger danger, cyber-bullying and racism. You can contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 for non-emergency calls. If you feel uncomfortable in calling the police with information about crime, then please consider contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity working to fight crime. They can also be joined on Twitter, Facebook and Bebo or if you go

onto the Crimestoppers website you can also fill an on-line form. When contacting Crimestoppers you do not have to give your name and you may be eligible for a cash reward. Working with Pc Tina Starbuck is your Police Community Support Officer Sue Fahy, who regularly patrols the Central area of the Isle and will be happy to discuss any community issues with you. Please feel free to stop and speak with him

or alternatively contact either of us via 0845 60 60 222. The next Surgery is with our Media Bus visiting Haxey between 10am and 12 noon on Monday 16th August parked outside the Library, and then between 1pm and 3pm on the same day parked at the Hall, Owston Ferry. PC Starbuck, PCSO‘s Fahy and Pearson will be on the bus and this is an ideal

opportunity for the community to come and have a chat with us. We do our utmost to make these visits, however I have to say that if our services are required at short notice for a priority then we apologise for any inconvenience this causes. The police station at Epworth also provides a front counter service for two days a week, Mondays and

Thursdays, between 9am and 3pm. The date and location for the next Neighbourhood Action Team meeting is Monday 6th September 2010 at West

Butterwick Hall.

Haxey Parish Councillors

invited all Over 70’s to the

Parish Party held in Haxey

Memorial Hall on Thursday,

3rd June 2010 at 4.30 p.m. to

7.00 p.m. There was an excellent

attendance, as there usually is, with well over 100

people enjoying an excellent meal, catered by Sandra

Bishop and her staff. The Chairman of Haxey Parish

Council, Cllr John Smedley, who was

present, thanked Mrs Jennie Eckhardt for, once again,

organising the event. The Vicar of Haxey Rev Jerry

Green and Mrs Green. were also present.

This annual party has become a very popular event

and is looked forward to as an opportunity to meet and chat with old friends in a relaxed and friendly

atmosphere. There was also, as usual, some friendly

rivalry as to who would be found to be the oldest

Lady and Oldest Gentleman in attendance. This year

they were Mrs Doris Glew, who was presented with

a bottle of brandy, and Mr Wilf Lindley, who

received a bottle of whisky, from Cllr John Smedley

on behalf of the Parish Council.

One of the features of this annual event is the

evening entertainment, traditionally provided by local

singers or musicians. This year was no exception in

that respect, but the entertainment itself was an

opportunity to enjoy the exceptional talent of Marina

May, otherwise know as Chloe Dance, whose

grandfather, Reg Dance, also present to enjoy the

event, is a well-known local singer who has

entertained the audience in the past. Marina May

sang a programme of songs from the Forties and

Fifties. Her lovely voice brought to life not only the

beautiful songs, but also the wonderful memories

they held for many of those present.

Best Wishes Jennie

The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's

leading care and research charity for

people with dementia and those who

care for them. There are 750,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers

set to rise to one million by 2025. In the East Midlands there are

over 54,000 people with dementia and it is predicted that this

figure will rise to 71,000 by 2017. The Society's fight for a better world for people with all types of dementia takes a wide range of forms.

Through our network of local services, we touch the lives of over 30,000 people every week, providing

practical services and support for people with dementia and their carers. Every year, more than a million

people make use of the information we provide. Through campaigning and lobbying we strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the

challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. And through our research

programme we work to improve the knowledge we have about dementia and its treatment - and pursuing

the ultimate goal of finding a cure. Our vision is of a radically improved world for people with dementia. A world where they have their rights recognised, where they can fully contribute to family and community

life and where they can live with dignity, free from discrimination. A world where they, and those who care for them, have their needs fully met. A world, ultimately, where dementia can be defeated. STATISTICS:

There are currently 750,000 people with dementia in the UK.

There are over 16,000 younger people with dementia in the UK.

There are over 11,500 people with dementia from black and minority ethnic groups in the UK.

There will be over a million people with dementia by 2025.

Two thirds of people with dementia are women.

The proportion of people with dementia doubles for every 5 year age group.

One third of people over 95 have dementia.

60,000 deaths a year are directly attributable to dementia.

Delaying the onset of dementia by 5 years would reduce deaths directly attributable to dementia by

30,000 a year.

The financial cost of dementia to the UK is over £20 billion a year.

Family carers of people with dementia save the UK over £6 billion a year.

64% of people living in care homes have a form of dementia.

Two thirds of people with dementia live in the community while one third live in a care home.

Westwoodside Church of England School

Looking back over another busy year at West-

woodside Church of England School, there have

been so many wonderful opportunities for the

children. Having Mrs Judge on a job share basis

i.e. Class Teacher for 3 days a week and Sports

Coordinator through South Axholme for the

other 2, which attracts funding from the School

Sport Partnership, means that the children have

benefited from a wide variety of sporting events

which would not have happened otherwise.

During the Summer term these have included a

Golf Day, transport to the Triangular and Tria-

thalon Sports and football coaching during

School hours. The picture shows some of our

pupils at the Corus Triathalon event.

On 18 June we held a whole School Creativity

Exhibition where each class displayed a wide

variety of work that could be seen as part of

learning through creativity. All the children had

the opportunity to enjoy looking at work form

other classes and several adult visitors were

impressed by the range and standards achieved.

Small groups of children from each class were

chosen as ‗experts‘ to explain their work to our

visitors.

Our Homework Reading competitions have

continued in appropriate classes. The picture

shows winners from Year 4, who managed to

read at home the most regularly. We firmly

believe that extra practice reading aloud to an

adult at home not only helps the children‘s read-

ing but also supports their progress in writing.

Our emphasis on reading and writing in School, reinforced at home, has led this Summer to our best Year

6 SATs results in reading and writing (as well as Maths!) for several years. Well done to all the children

and adults who have contributed, in partnership, to this wonderful achievement.

Wishing you a lovely Summer. Roger Marshall Headteacher

West Butterwick Community Led Village

Plan Update The Village Plan group met on 6th July to finalise the arrangements for the Launch Party which went

ahead on the evening of Friday 9th July.

All residents in the village of West Butterwick were invited and made welcome with free refresh-

ments and displays showing ‗Past‘ photos (kindly donated by Nick Coggan) and a ‗Present‘ display

with photos of areas of the village today. Then there was the ‗Future‘ board which enabled visitors

to make comments about their hopes for the future of the village.

A big thank you to all those people (about 80) who went to the trouble to attend, give suggestions

and ideas to the Group.

It was decided at the follow-up meeting on 14th July that further consultation is required with the

residents, so the Village Plan Group hope to attend the Field Day with the ‗Village Plan Gazebo‘ so

more residents will have the opportunity to have their say.

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS, PLEASE HELP US BY PUT-

TING THEM IN THE SUGGESTION BOX WHICH IS TO BE PLACED IN THE VILLAGE SHOP.

Thanks are extended by the Village Plan Group to West Butterwick Stores, The Three Horseshoes,

and The Ferryboat for their kind donations for the raffle at the above event.

Yorkshire Hearing Introduces the Revolutionary S Series iQ

Yorkshire Hearing is the first Hearing Care Practice in Doncaster area to launch the revolutionary new S Series iQ

hearing instrument from Starkey Laboratories which addresses the biggest problem hearing aid wearers have faced

to date – hearing comfortably in noise.

Often in quiet environments, hearing loss sufferers can hear the voices in front of them, but have trouble in noisier

surroundings.Starkey‘s new noise reduction and speech preservation system, Voice iQ, is designed to hold speech

volume up and push background noise down, meaning hearing aid wearers can hear more of what they want to

hear, like conversations and less of what they don‘t, like wind and noise.

―Voice iQ truly takes hearing aid technology to a new level,‖ said Mr Paul Smith, Hearing Aid Audiologist of York-

shire Hearing‘‘. Developing the technology to address speech understanding in noise has taken Starkey three years

but the result is a huge step forward for hearing aid wearers‖.

For hearing loss sufferers who refuse to be seen wearing a hearing instrument and favour a more discreet solution,

the new OtoLens might just be the answer. OtoLens is the first 100% custom, invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) hearing aid

so no one has to know you‘re wearing a hearing instrument. Although small, it is also packed with the very latest

technology to deliver a precise, natural sound.

According to the RNID, nearly 9 million people in the UK suffer from hearing loss, but the majority of them don‘t

get help, which affects their communication and ultimately their quality of life over time. Now there is really is no

need to suffer unnecessarily with invisible hearing solutions and groundbreaking hearing technology that will set

hearing loss sufferers back onto the path of better hearing.

The new S Series iQ hearing instruments will be available from Yorkshire Hearing from 1st July 2010. Mr Smith at

Yorkshire Hearing is a registered Hearing Aid Audiologist with The Health Professions Council & has been in the

business of providing hearing care to the people of the Doncaster area for 34 years and has helped countless people

with hearing loss to enjoy hearing again.

the Village Hall in Westwoodside on Monday 2nd August and can

Wroot Travis School News Letters

This has been a very busy month on 17th June our year 6 children took part

in the Church School‘s Festival at Lincoln Cathedral.

We are thinking of having some chickens but we didn‘t know which sort of

chicken to have. Reverend David Lees brought some of his chickens to

show us including a very pettable bantam cockerel named Fred. The

children were so taken with Fred, whose crowing made them laugh, that

we‘ve put our name down for two of his offspring.

On 22nd June the children visited the Methodist Chapel in Epworth. They

were very keen to meet Fred again, who comes out to meet visitors. The

children thoroughly explored the chapel including the vestry, pulpit, balcony

and a they had a chance to play the organ.

On 23rd June our year 5 and 6 children went on their annual three day

residential visit to the PGL centre at Caythorpe Court near Grantham.

They children enjoyed lots of different activities including archery, climbing

the Jacob‘s ladder and raft building. They all came back very tired and it was

noted that some of the bathroom wash kits they took hadn‘t been used.

On 28th June we had a Tudor workshop in school called A Taste of History.

The children dressed up as Tudors, cooked what the Tudor children would

have had and tasted it. It wasn‘t all to their taste but they enjoyed the

experience. In the afternoon the KS1 children took their food and teddy

bears outside for a picnic

Congratulations to our brass players who have just taken their music exams,

they all passed with flying colours.

At the beginning of July

we joined up with

other schools and took

part in a Quadrupal

sporting event at

Belton school. We

came third!

The 16th Annual Lions Charity

Golf day took place at The

Lincolnshire Golf course,

Hirst Priory on Friday 18th June and a very successful day it proved to be. The day started overcast and gloomy and it looked

like we were in for a miserable cold rainy

day. However we were proved wrong and the

day brightened up allowing the players to do

their best. The course was in excellent

condition and some very good scores were returned. More than seventy players arrived

during the day and the overall Men‘s winner

was John West of Sheffield with a score of 42.

Second was Daryll Pidd of Crowle on 41 and

Mark Hill of Crowle on 40. The Ladies victor on a score of 35 Margaret

Baker ,Janet Taylor second on 41 and 3rd Liz

Thomson on 33. We would like to thank all those who supported us by playing and an especial thanks

to our sponsors for the marvelous support we

get from them every year. Without these we

would not be able to raise a fantastic £1600 for

our funds. Thank you all once again and please look out for our next fundraiser which is a

you laughing while we raise money.

North Lincolnshire Council intends to carry out major roadworks on the A161, Station Road in the

vicinity of the railway level crossing. The work will commence on the 27th September lasting for

approximately 3 weeks. The work will include replacing and re-profiling the existing road surface

and improving the existing drainage in the area. Please see the website and notice boards for

further details.

Calling all residents of Haxey & Westwoodside. The Parish Council are trying to register the

Ropewalk on to the North Lincolnshire Council Definitive Map and to do this require evidence

forms to be completed by local residents using this walk for the past 20 years plus. If that is you

please collect a form from the Library and return to the Parish Office or contact the Clerk.

Haxey Library

North Lincolnshire Council are looking at different ways to run the local library and customers of

the Library will be receiving questionnaires from NLC asking for comments on the options that they

are suggesting. One option being the future running of the library could be the role of the

community rather than the Local Authority and the other option could be a mobile library service

which would visit different parts of the village.

Please ensure that you complete the questionnaire when received and promptly return them to the address provided at North Lincolnshire Council.

The Isle of Axholme Where You Live Your Local History

Adapted by Anthony Catherall

THE DRAINAGE OF THE ISLE OF AXHOLME (continued)

The most successful drain was from Tudworth to Althorpe because it carried no water from a river. Vermuyden however made some fundamental mistakes. He took two drains and the New River Torne to Althorpe instead of following the lie of the land to Adlingfleet four feet lower. In the case of the New River Torne he merely made raised banks on the surface of the land to contain the river instead of excavating the hard rock and gypsum. The lands of Vermuyden around Hatfield and Thorne seemed to have been fairly effectively drained, but surrounding areas were still flooded which were not previously. The high embankment on the Dun’s right bank protected lands to the east, but lands to the west around Snaith, Stainforth, Pollington, Sykehouse and Fishlake were flooded whereas previously they had experienced no flooding. In 1630 Richard Bridges wrote to the Lord President of the Council of the North describing the scene around Sykehouse: - “ I rode with great difficulty and danger of water; where I was, and yet am, a woeful spectator of the lamentable destruction of my native soil and country. All sorts of people in pitiful distress; some to save their lives; some their goods and cattle; some to get food for their hungry bodies”. He also wrote how mothers were trudging middle deep in water, how the floods had carried corn and hay both cut and standing away. The waters of the New River Torne proved too much for the embankments and much of the land west of Epworth was heavily flooded. The outfall at Althorpe was too small; this also helped to cause flooding. Opposition to the drainage by the local people seems to have been very extensive. The Islonians claimed that their common lands were being taken away despite the Deed of John de Mowbray granting them free use of the commons. The Islonians would also loose their fishing and wild fowling activities. Compensation of £400.00 was granted to cover this. The Islonians were allocated the lowest and therefore the wettest land in the share up. The Court of Sewers dealt with grievances about the drainage and sometimes they compelled the Participants to make improvements. The work seemed to go ahead despite their protests. Violence soon broke out. Dutch workmen were assaulted and their carts and barrows burnt. Vermuyden didn’t help matters by saying that anyone who petitioned the Privy Council in London, against him would be hanged. An embankment near Haxey was broken down fifty times says Sir Philibert Vernatti, one of the participants. Workmen were thrown into the drains and held under with long poles. Mock gallows were set up to terrify the workmen. This damage along with unforeseen difficulties and improvements left the Participants gaining little financial reward from their adventure. Now & Then – Then & Now By Anthony Catherall

Here is Haxey in bygone days and compare to today’s images!

I was delighted to receive this rare card from Steve Goulding of Epworth; he

will receive a voucher to enjoy the delights of Jonathan

David’s at High Street Epworth. Being an ex Royal Engineer myself, the card was even more poignant to me. Here we see a detachment of 46 men and officers from the 4th West Riding Territorials who formed the Firing Party led by Lieut. Yates of Doncaster. They headed the procession at the funeral of Sapper 50954 Thomas Eustace Preston 15th Signal Company Royal Engineers. Sapper Preston died on duty at Aldershot following a 14-mile route march on 19 February 1915 aged 28 years. He was the son of local Haxey Headmaster of the Church of England School close by Mr John Thomas Preston, (known locally as Tommy) and his wife Clara. The funeral service was conducted by the Vicar (Rev. J.W Shepherd, M.A.), at the graveside in the churchyard of St Nicholas Church Haxey. Special thanks go to Gavin & Liz Berry of Haxey who helped in my research and led me to Thomas’s grave. In the lower picture taken on 15 May 2010, the trees are in full leaf now almost covering the same house as above (but much altered now. Notice also the wall that has been halved in the picture below taken on 15 May 2010. A fuller report of the Sapper Preston’s funeral can be found in the Epworth Bells dated Saturday, February 27, 1915 in the Mechanic’s Institute in Epworth.

SEEING THINGS THE OTHER WAY ROUND My parents lived for many years in Eastbourne on the Sussex coast, and so we visited

them in that seaside town on a regular basis and loved to walk along the promenade.

Apparently, Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, enjoyed doing the same. On

one occasion he saw a man with a lady and a child walking a dog along the sea

front. The man wanted to show off the dog‘s skill, so he put his walking stick and a large

beach umbrella down on the ground and left them there for the dog to pick up.

First of all the dog picked up the umbrella, and wedged it between his back teeth, before trying to pick up

the walking stick as well. Because the walking stick had wedged his jaw open too far, the dog couldn‘t get

any grip with his front teeth, and the walking stick kept falling out.

The dog tried over and over again, and then decided the task was impossible. He put the articles down

and then, as Lewis Carroll described it, the dog seemed to think the problem out logically until an idea

occurred to the animal. Now the dog picked up the walking stick first, and then found it was perfectly

easy to take up the umbrella as well.

Of course there will be somewhat more difficult tasks facing us this month, but before we get too despon-

dent and give some of them up as impossible, it might be worth thinking about that dog on Eastbourne

seafront.

That animal encourages us to utter a prayer for grace to see things the other way round and start again.

THE TRENTSIDE CONFEDERATION – SCHOOL NEWS

This academic year is now drawing to a close – both of our schools (West Butterwick and St

Martin‘s, Owston Ferry) continue to be extremely busy! West Butterwick Infants performed ‗The

Garden‘ – a 40 minute concert with lots of nature based songs, supported by information from their

Science studies (growing vegetables and knowing what a plant needs to survive). A very interesting

and entertaining way to share their learning with others through music and drama. Sport has

featured heavily in extra-curricular activities this past month as pupils from both schools participated

in Quad Sports with Belton and Wroot. A Multi-skills tournament for our Key Stage 1 pupils takes

place on 15th July and we are fortunate to also have a visit from a ‗Golf Professional‘ who will

provide us with an insight into playing golf as a job and all that it entails! Furthermore, it should be

a very interesting end to theis Summer Term as staff from St Martin‘s take on the Year 6 pupils in

the traditional Rounders Match.

There is some ambitious design and technology work happening with our older children at the

moment. Years 5 & 6 (St Martin‘s) are creating their own fairground ride models and Years 3,4,5 &

6 at West Butterwick have a 2-metre long Titanic model in-the-making, looking absolutely fantastic!

We look forward to seeing the finished products and trying them out!!

In amongst all of this, our Key Stage 2 pupils visited Magna Science Adventure Centre – a wonderful

place with over 100 interactive exhibits providing lots of opportunities to learn through investigation

and play.

Looking back on a really productive and enjoyable year, we will be holding our Leavers‘ Celebrations

on Wednesday 21st July at St Mary‘s and St Martin‘s Churches. We would like to thank all of our

Year 6 Leavers for their contributions to our schools over the years and wish them all the very best

for the future :- Destiny Wallace, James Whiteside, Maddison Scott, Hannah Hobson, Leah Smith,

Luke Willerton, Ben Elliott, Ben Dance, Imogen Attenborough, Olivia Chatwin, Adam Brown, Ryan

Duffy, Shane Harrison, Shawn Frost, Louise Reid and Sam Feane.

Enjoy the Summer and we look forward to bringing you more school news in the forthcoming new

academic year.

Taking your Test Dear Readers continued,

Mr Bean was the first person to pass the driving test in 1935… fact! But it‘s not that Mr Bean, it was Mr J

Beene who paid a grand total of 37p (7d / 6p in old money) to take the test. there were no test centres in

1935 so you had to arrange to meet the examiner somewhere like a post office, train station or town hall.

the test was suspended for the duration of World War Two and didn‘t resume until 1 November 1946.

In 1975, candidates no longer had to demonstrate hand signals The theory test was introduced in 1996,

replacing questions about the Highway Code, during the practical test candidates could book their theory

test online for the first time in December 2001 the pass rate in 1935 was 63 per cent compared to 46 per

cent in 2009.

1969 saw the first driving test set for an automatic vehicle since 1935 more than 46 million tests have

been taken

In 1935, when Leslie Hore-Belisha, became the new Transport Minister, he introduced the driving test –

first in March as a voluntary test and then it became compulsory in June. During the 1930s safety glass was

made compulsory for windscreens after terrible injuries had been caused by accidents in cars with

ordinary glass. Seat belts did not appear until the 1950s but were not made compulsory in front seats until

1983.

in September 2003. Arm signals out of the window were withdrawn from the test in 1975 and more

modern additions to the test have included a theory test in 1996, the hazard perception section of the

theory test in 2002 and questions about vehicle

safety and maintenance

Changes to the test and other safety initiatives,

such as improvements to vehicles, have resulted in

a reduction in road deaths in Great Britain, which

now has some of the best road safety records in

the world. In 2008 there were 34 million cars on

the road and 2,538 people were killed in road

accidents

When announcing the introduction of the driving

test, Leslie Hore-Belisha said, ―Driving is an art in

which those who are engaged should, in the

interest of their own and of the public‘s safety; take

the greatest pains to make themselves proficient.‖

As the summer recess approached members at Axholme Camera Club

held their Annual General Meeting. Andrew Kershaw, Competition Secretary, was

pleased to announce the winner of the Emlyn Perrot Annual Trophy for the highest scoring member

overall. This year the winner was Andrew Kershaw of Low Burnham. Individual winners of the Tom

Dennis Imaging of Scunthorpe Vouchers were, in Monochrome, Andrew Kershaw and in the Colour

section Andrew Kershaw! A clean sweep for Andy, who has now resigned as Competition Secretary due

to pressure of work starting a new business, Career Development Services.

David Ulyett, retiring Vice Chairman, presented the Picstop.com Prize to a valuable member who has

consistently supported the Club and the Members over the last year in many different ways. Kenneth

Thompson of Epworth was both surprised and pleased to receive this recognition.

The last club competition of the year was held earlier, the subject a projected digital image poster or

promotion. The winners of this unusual competition were Jean Goodburne of Hatfield with 20 in both

colour and monochrome sections, with Peter Webster, Judy Newton and Andrew Kershaw runners up.

There were a number of changes to the Committee at the AGM this year, although Allan Rowsell remains

the Chairman for another year, with Peter Webster as Treasurer. George Fiddler takes on the role of

Vice Chairman for a second time, with Geoff Trinder as Co- Vice Chairman, while husband and wife team,

David and Jan Neale become Competition

Secretaries handling both internal and external

competitions. Charmian Roberts, Ken Thompson

and Helen Turton form the rest of the Committee.

Work on the programme for next year and 2011/12

had already been started, and a good mix of

speakers, workshops and competitions is planned.

The first meeting of the new session will be on

Wednesday September 1st 2010 at 7.30 pm in Haxey

Church Hall. Members old and new will be

welcomed by this friendly club. Ring the Chairman,

on 0142 752400, or just come along.

Everyone is welcome to attend what promises to be

an very interesting evening on Tuesday 21st

September when visiting speaker John Jones talks

about 'Life in the Darkness' and shows his images

from underground. Usual time and place, £1.50 to

include refreshments.
