Art Show Emphasis Importance Of Original Art

The Originals Only Fine Art Show is one of Vancouver Island’s most unique outdoor art events because the entire show is focused only on the works of painters and sculptors. The show is also exclusive to artists living on Vancouver Island, the outer islands and Powell River.

From humble beginnings when there were only a handful of artists exhibiting, the show now hosts over fifty artists who work in a variety of mediums and styles. Visitors to the show will have the opportunity to contem-plate and compare works in oils, acrylics, watercolours, wood and metal to mention just a few. Styles range from abstract to con-temporary to realism and cover a vast selec-tion of subject matter.

Many of the artists are award winners but the show has been created to provide oppor-tunities for emerging and student artists to showcase their work. The organizers, all exhibiting artists, have created an art show that is all inclusive and is intended to give artists working at all levels the opportunity to showcase and sell their work in an envi-ronment that emphasizes the importance of original art.

With each artist set up in their own booth, a visit to the show provides art patrons and

those just curious the opportunity to visit nearly 50 mini galleries all located in the spec-tacular setting of Marina Park in the Comox Harbour area. And with each artist having at least 15 works on display this makes the Originals Only show one of the largest out-door fine art shows in the Province. This has made the show a magnet for art patrons and there are a number of regular visitors who actually plan to spend their holidays in the Valley so that it coincides with the show’s dates.

Organized under the auspices of Comox Recreation, the event has helped to achieve greater recognition of the fact that a healthy community is not just focused on physical activity. In order to build a vibrant and well balanced community recreational program-ming through support of activities such as the art show helps highlight the many cultur-ally oriented programs that are being offered.

A visit to the show’s website at www.origi-nalsonly.ca confirms that there is indeed a wide variety of styles and mediums as many of the participating artists have samples of their works posted in the gallery section.

The show is open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm on both Saturday & Sunday, August 10 & 11. Admission is free.
