TAKEAWAYSGOALS ON GOALS ON GOALS

After being shutout at home against Indy Eleven, the Steel FC offense has come alive with 10 goals in wins against Atlanta United 2, Richmond Kickers and Charlotte Independence. The franchise-record strikes have been by committee with nine players combining for the goals with Omar Holness the only player with two goals.

COACH’S CORNERBethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke:On the results this week“It was a good week. I thought we started well in Richmond and that got us off on the right foot for the entire road trip. I thought we were really positive in the second half of the Charlotte game and pouredatonofenergyintofinishingtheroadtripofftherightway.IthoughtwewereshakyattimesinthefirsthalfoftheCharlottegame but we talked about how big that game was, how big that road win would be to us at the end of the season. Hopefully, that holds true now that we went and took care of business there.”

On both the offense and defense clicking at the right time“I think it’s concentration and good preparation. The guys get alongreallywellandthatgoesalongwaysotheyarefightingfor each other and doing a lot of hard running off the ball to put themselves in good spots. We’ve been pleased with the energy and effort that has gone into the performances.”

Expectations of Pittsburgh“They don’t concede much and they have something crazy like 14 clean sheets. They are all bought in and committed. A lot of those things that I spoke about, they do really well. As a group, they fightforeachother, covergroundandtheyplaythepercentages. They can hit you lightning quick on the counter-attack so they’ve won a handful of games 3-0 themselves. We have a great respect for what they are doing there and the quality of player they’ve been able to bring in with their new-look team.”

KEEPING IT CLEANAfterpickingupjusttwoshutoutsintheclub’sfirst22matches,Steel FC has come alive with back-to-back clean sheets on the road at the Kickers and Independence. Led by goalkeeper Jake McGuire, Steel FC has yet to concede a goal for 230 minutes, the longest streak this season.

THE SET UPWhile Steel FC scoring boots is catching the attention of fans and media, the play before the goals have been just as impressive.
