President’s Message

Ed’s Notes

Most of you have undoubtedly heard about the tragedy in Kanab. I wanted to revisit some of our club safety proce-dures. We do the annual safety check each year where the inspectors follow the Model T Club of America’s safety checklist. While this is a great event that is well attended by members, it is just a check; the true owner of safety is the car owner. One of the biggest concerns I have with our cars is the wooden wheels. An item that is critically important to safety, it’s an item that is easily taken for granted. We drive our cars much faster than they were driven back in the day with wheels that are many times quite old. When you do your pre-tour inspection, please remember to check your wheels for loose spokes and wobble. Our club has experienced some close calls over the years and are very fortunate to have not had a serious accident. Let’s keep it that way.Redwood Empire Model T Club extends our sympathy to the family involved and to the extended family of Model T Club’s and member’s. We are all a family . . . Steve

Congratuations to Pat and Sandy O’Halloran on bringing home a “Best of Show” award from a local car show. Many types of cars and motorcycles and then there was Pat’s 1924 Model T Roadster. Everyone loved it and Pat came home with the plaque. When you are new to the hobby and then a surprise like this happens, it sure feels good, right, Pat?? See Pat on the front cover of this newsletter.

Montgomery Village — REMTC Car ShowEighteen REMTC Model T’s, from a 1909 Touring to most years of the Model T lineup were on display at Montgomery Village. Speedsters and a TT Truck gave the folks a real display to look at, talk to the owners, open the hoods, and reminisce about the Model T their father had! All the members dressed in vintage and as we did last year, spent the afternoon enjoying shopping and eating in the Village. Thanks to Vince Gre-goire for arranging the venue. It has become a favorite annual event. Check the website for more pages added to the newsletter for photos.

The Tour Leader, Bill Newlin, holds a driver’s meeting for the 25 Model T’s and Horseless Carriages.

Welsh Family Tour & BarbecueStan Ramondo had the gin fizzes ready as 25 an-tique automobiles and over 60 people arrived at the home of Warren and Phyllis Welsh. Ron & Irene served as cohosts for the annual event. After morning pastries and looking over the gorgeous array of Model T’s and Horseless Carriages, we took to the back roads of West County for a tour lead by Bill Newlin with the help of Larry Sum-merfield, all cars and passengers enjoyed a lovely 3 hour tour with stops at Occidental and North-wood Golf Course in Guerneville and then down River Road and back to the Welsh’s for the pot luck and barbecue. Lots of tire kicking and enjoy-ing Warren’s collection, together with good fellowship and enjoying a perfectly beautiful day with Phyllis and War-ren Welsh, our hosts. Thanks to chef, Ron Welsh and cohostess, Irene for all their hard work. Trouble truck driver, George, made sure all the cars returned home safely.
