The Valencian Community carries out duties with regard to water sanitation and treatment since the year 1986. RD 1871/85.

In 1986 only 31% of the population had waste-water treatment.

70% of the installations did not properly work.

Between the years 1986-1991, the percentage of population served reached 66%.

Despite the efforts, there was a great structural deficit.

The Valencian Community carries out duties with regard to water sanition and treatment since the year 1986.

RD 1871/85.

The infrastructures executed did not offer any security regarding their suitable maintenance.

To solve this needs the Cortes Valencianas approved the Law 2/1992.

4 THE SANITATION FEE

Established by the Law 2/1992. It works as a tax.

It guarantees the economical resources to finance the maintenance and operational costs of the EDAR (Sewage Treatment Plants).

It charges the production of sewage, by means of the consumption.

It affects both the consumption in public nets and in the own nets.

There are two rates, one for domestic use (0,46 €/m3) and one for industrial use (0,67 €/m3). It represents 30% of the water invoice.

I MASTER SANITATION PLAN

- It was executed during the years 1993-2000.

- It represented the construction or redesigning of the 300 WWTP in towns with more than 500 inhab.

- The investment was 533 M€, (338 M€ by the Generalitat).

- In the II Master Sanitation Plan, the reuse of water represents 18,2% of the investment.

- Aspects having an influence on the reuse of treated water:

1. Availability of resources.2. Degree of quality.3. Distance to the point of exploitation.

184 hm³/a directly reused (36%).

The reuse of treated water in the Valencian Community is one of the most important in Spain.

225 hm³/a reused altogether (44%).

At the end of 2010, we would be able to reuse 350 hm³/a (68%).
