The FABulous Women of Madison County are Back in Action!

Hi! I’m Angela Barbosa. Since August 2010 I’ve assisted MCC part-time in marketing and communications and am excited to have recently transitioned into a full-time role as vice president.

As a Madison County native who has returned after nearly 20 years away and a career in the private sector, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with MCC and to contribute to the revitalization and growth of our community!

My focus at the chamber is on the many and various “Get Linked Madison” initiatives and events that serve our mission to connect business and create commerce. I am particularly excited to introduce the new women in business series, FAB!, and to support the IDEA initiative and the countywide business retention and expansion efforts that will work with companies to help them overcome obstacles and thrive.

I look forward to working with the staff, board, and members at MCC as well as others across both Madison County and our region to create even more opportunities to bring hope and prosperity to our community.

Question: What do you get done when you put a bunch of smart, driven professional women in a room together?

Answer: Pretty much anything.

In this case, MCC heard the call from several prominent women in our midst to bring back women in business programming and got them together to figure out what it should look like.

The result is FAB! Females Active in Business, a monthly luncheon series focusing on networking, education, and inspiration for business women.

Reviewing the amazing 30-year history of Women in Business programming at the chamber provided a lot of guidance and inspiration for this group to start with. The planning task force wanted to retain the benefits of a female-focused event, supporting different interests and networking styles while providing a venue for

building and strengthening the valuable personal and professional relationships among women. At the same time, they wanted to update the program with a new name, new look, and renewed focus on what makes a women’s business program unique.

Enter FAB! The new program will feature speakers and programs each month focused on one of three areas—business/economic, personal/work-life balance, and networking—with topics specifically designed to address issues relevant to professional women. Each lunch will also showcase a featured non-profit organization, the annual presenting and supporting sponsors, and six table exhibitors, all of whom will have

the opportunity to share their message directly with a group of leading business and personal decision makers and arguably the most powerful buying demographic.
