Our 2014 Summer Season has come to an end. A special thanks to the summer staff that provided the
guidance and supervision to all of the campers in attendance this summer. Their relationship with the campers
was superb; they worked with enthusiasm, supported each other, and provided the best possible experience for
each camper. Without this special group, camp would not have been the success that it was, for they are the
ones who made the Happy Hollow Summer Camp sessions a huge success in 2014.
With the support of many donors, we made improvements to our program. The Lilly Endowment funded a
new shelter house. With the new shelter house, we were able to host more recreational and education activities
for the children attending our program. The Brave Heart Foundation sponsored the purchase of a trailer to
transport the children’s luggage to camp. In the past, we have rented a U-Haul truck to transport the luggage.
With the new trailer, we are saving hundreds of dollars in truck rental cost. The Interactive Intelligence
Foundation sponsored a bullying prevention class for all of our campers. The Indiana Raptor Center continued
their nature education program during each camp session. Lastly, the Junior League of Indianapolis sponsored
our Books Before Bed program. Their sponsorship includes stocking the camp library, presenting a book to
each camper to take home after camp, and providing a one-year Ranger Rick subscription to each camper who
receives an “A” on their camper evaluation. Thank you to all of these sponsors for their support of our camp
programs.
We are excited to report an average attendance of 113.2 children per week in our City Camp program.
In addition, we welcomed Asthma Camp, the Diabetic Teen and Muscular Dystrophy Association camps this
summer. These camp programs do not focus on the campers disabilities but encourages them to participate in
all camp activities. Over 284 children attended the special needs camps this summer and 453 children in our
City Camp program that is a total of 737 children attending Happy Hollow this summer.
Plan to join us at camp for the End of Summer Festival on Sunday, September 14, 2014. You will have the
opportunity to explore Happy Hollow grounds and programs. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. Visit
our website to purchase tickets online.
Despite the fact that our summer programs have concluded, we do have a very busy program this fall. Our
continued efforts will focus on year-end funding to meet financial needs, providing programs and services to a
variety of groups, while planning for 2015.
People, both volunteers and donors, are the mainstay of Happy Hollow Children’s Camp. I want to take this
opportunity to thank every one of you, both volunteers and donors, who have very generously supported
Happy Hollow Camp this year. By supporting Happy Hollow Camp, you have helped change the lives of
children in need for the betterment of our communities. Every hour and every dollar you have given has
made an impact on the lives of local children.
Thank you for your kind support and continuing commitment to Happy Hollow Camp.
Yours in Camping,
Bernard Schrader, Executive Director

Campers enjoy the new shelter house that was sponsored by the Lilly Endowment. Thank you!
The Horseback Riding Program is a favorite of our campers. Over 700 children participated in our Horseback Riding program this summer.

Let the Fun Begin...
Remember Happy Hollow Children’s Camp with a Gift of Support Our donors are truly the heart of the support system that sustains our mission—to
give economically disadvantaged children an opportunity to attend a summer camp where they can learn and have fun in a safe, supervised setting.
We count on your generosity all year long, but in these challenging times, your support is even more crucial than ever. Since 1951, more than 40,000 Central Indiana children have made the trip over winding Brown County roads to experience the adventures awaiting them at Happy Hollow. As the summer comes to an end, please consider a gift that will help that legacy endure. Thank you for your kind support and continuing commitment to Happy Hollow. The Interactive Intelligence Foundation funded the construction of a new addition to the high ropes course for the younger children to use at camp. With this support, we can now continue to offer this program to
thousands of more children in the years to come.
