It was important to create a ‘wow’ factor to increase buyer appeal. To launch my digital marketing campaign, I narrated an HD video with birds-eye views.” Diemer recently listed and sold a home in Holland Hills near Goochland High School within the first two weeks. “My stager and I recommended a fresh wall color and new carpet, along with other staging tips.” She also assists neighborhood developers and builders. AS A GOOCHLAND RESIDENT AND LICENSED REALTOR®, Pam Diemer has learned how to enhance her clients’ real estate experiences while protecting their interests. Her knowledge, skills and connections greatly benefit her clients.

One of Diemer’s recent sales was 291 Hawk Wing Drive, a 12-room, 6,600-square-foot, Georgian-style home at Hermitage Country Club, less than a month after it was listed. It was the highest-priced home sold in the Richmond market in June 2015.

Recipes From the Kitchen of Laura Payne, Personal Chef for Gourmet Your Waywww.gourmetyourway05.com • 804-514-6812

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat oven to 300 degrees. Grease and flour a Bundt pan.

2. Beat butter and cream cheese until creamy. Gradually add sugar and mix well. Add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla extract.

3. Combine flour and salt and gradually add to butter mixture, beating at low speed until just blended.

4. Lightly coat the blueberries with cooking spray and toss with the cinnamon sugar.

5. Pour 2 cups of batter into the Bundt pan. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the blueberries evenly, and add another 2 cups of batter and 3/4 cup of blueberries. Add a final 2 cups of batter and remainder of the blueberries and gently “spread” them into the batter with a rubber spatula, just enough to have them sink a bit.

6. Bake for 1 hour and 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes, then invert the pan. Let cool completely and drizzle with lemon glaze.

INGREDIENTS

Prep Time 20 minutesBake Time 1 hour. 40 minutes

• 1 1/2 cups butter, softened

• 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese,

softened

• 3 cups sugar

• 6 large eggs

• 3 cups all-purpose flour

• 1/8 teaspoon salt

• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

• 2 cups blueberries, washed and dried

• Cooking spray

• Cinnamon sugar (2 tablespoons sugar,

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon)

BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE POUND CAKE WITH LEMON GLAZE

**I always have extra batter left over so I make a mini loaf of pound cake and put any remaining cinnamon sugar in the middle of the batter, then bake for 40-50 minutes. Peaches work well in this recipe, too.

GLAZE

• 2 cups powdered sugar

• 2 tablespoons milk

• 1 tablespoon lemon juice

• 1 teaspoon lemon zest

“Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is ecstatic to announce it has secured a site in Goochland County, Virginia, as the future home of Hardywood West, a destination brewery campus.” – excerpt from the press release from Richmond-based Hardywood Park Craft Brewery.

VIRGINIA GOVERNOR TERRY MCAULIFFE made the official announcement at a press conference held on July 20 at the Virginia Farm Bureau headquarters in West Creek Business Park in eastern Goochland. Hardywood’s new facility will be located on a 24-acre tract within West Creek.

Obviously, the continued growth of the company and its ambitious plans for the future would be reason for the ecstasy of the brewery’s cofounders and lifelong friends, Eric McKay and Patrick Murtaugh. But (just as obviously) they’re not the only ones celebrating the news.

Governor McAuliffe himself stated at the press conference, “Today’s announcement is a great win for Virginia’s craft brewery industry and our ongoing efforts to build a new Virginia economy.”

And Susan Lascolette, chair for the county’s board of supervisors, was quoted in the governor’s press release as saying, “‘We are thrilled about Hardywood’s decision to choose Goochland County for its new brewing campus and distribution facility. West Creek’s easy access, abundant infrastructure, and scenic beauty provide the ideal location.’”

As I spoke with Ms. Lascolette recently, she told me, “We believe that [Hardywood] will help attract additional growth in the district.”

With all the rejoicing over Hardywood’s move into Goochland, I got to wondering how the county’s other two breweries, Midnight and LIckinghole Creek, felt about having additional competition.

Indeed, the craft beer industry is famous for the camaraderie and spirit of cooperation and support shown to fellow brewers.

I asked Trae Cairns, owner of Midnight Brewery, and Lisa Pumphrey, cofounder and CEO of Lickinghole Creek, to weigh in on Hardywood’s big news.

“I am happy to have Hardywood as a neighbor,” says Cairns, whose Midnight Brewery is less than a ten-minute drive from the new Hardywood site. “They are doing some great things in the craft beer community, so it will only continue to get better for the community.”

Lickinghole Creek, located farther afield, in the western portion of the county, is the state’s first farm brewery. Pumphrey says in response to Hardywood’s announcement, “I am very happy for my friends at Hardywood Park. I and the Lickinghole Creek team welcome them to Goochland. We look forward to being neighbors.”

Regarding McKay’s comments that the expansion will better allow Hardywood Park to develop its numerous partnerships with local farmers and artisans, Pumphrey says, “I am happy to see other breweries doing more local sourcing, growing some crops in their industrial sites, and supporting the growth of farm breweries in agricultural areas.”

In a similar vein, Lascolette says of Hardywood Park, “Their commitment to purchasing Virginia agriculture products for their beers fits with our strategic vision to attract strong business partners while supporting our agricultural heritage.”

But Hardywood Park’s plans are not just good for business. They will certainly raise an already rather high fun quotient in the county. Both of the existing breweries are bringing folks into the county, not just for the beers that each offers, but also to enjoy a variety of almost-weekly special events featuring food trucks, live entertainment and other activities. (Check their respective websites below for full schedules of upcoming events.)

We can only expect more of the same as Hardywood Park’s $28 million investment begins to become a reality. According to announced plans and artists’ renderings, the Goochland campus will include a taproom and beer garden, agricultural fields, a food truck plaza, bocce courts, a natural amphitheater for live performances and walking paths connecting to a planned creek-side trail system.

Trae Cairns sums it up well: “With Hardywood’s announcement, it makes three breweries in Goochland … and Goochland will only get better!”
