'Lechery, lechery, still wars and lechery: nothing else holds fashion'

Troilus and Cressida swear they will always be true to one another. But in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested, and exposed to the savage corrupting influence of war, with tragic consequences.

Virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie collaborates with RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran to create a satirical futuristic vision of a world resounding with the rhythm of battle.

A portrait of power at its most charismatic and violent, Tamburlaine was one of the first big hits of the English stage.

Tamburlaine is a poor shepherd who rises to power to live out his blood-soaked fantasy of conquering the world. His extravagant savagery shows what horror can result when unlimited political libido is let loose upon the world.

Michael Boyd returns to the RSC for the first time since leaving as Artistic Director in 2012 to direct this ambitious epic.

ART

Poignant, funny and bitter, this is a rare chance to see Shakespeare's most modern creation: a story of how the world moves from privilege to poverty with heartbreaking speed.

Timon is a celebrated member of the establishment, whose exploitation by false friends forces us to gaze into the cravings we all share. Simon Godwin (The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Hamlet) returns to direct Kathryn Hunter as Timon in Shakespeare’s sharp satire on wealth, greed and betrayal.

The performances on 15 and 16 January 2019 will be filmed for future broadcast.

DAY OF THE LIVINGCREATED BY DARREN CLARKE, AMY DRAPER AND JULIET GILKES ROMEROAyotzinapa, Mexico, 2014. 43 students are forcefully disappeared. No one is brought to justice.

An anarchic, musical tribute to life and the Mexican spirit with urgent, global issues at its hear t.

#WEAREARRESTEDBY CAN DÜNDARADAPTED BY PIPPA HILL AND SOPHIE IVATTSWhen a journalist receives a flash-drive containing critical evidence of i l legal government activity, he is duty-bound to publish the story. But with the nation destabilised and divided, a sinister power is eroding the rule of law, and he soon finds himself risking everything for his profession.

#WeAreArrested is the true story of a journalist’s commitment to expose the truth in the face of huge personal risks. This deeply moving play is a tribute to the bravery of journalists under threat around the globe.

THREE LETTERSWRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY NELL LEYSHONI am trying to remember the young woman that I was before I had children. I am trying to see who I am now… I am a writer and I have a splinter of ice in my heart and in my eye.

Nell Leyshon performs her own story of how her reinvention of herself af ter children is halted by illness. I t is a story of the body, medicine, statistics and the NHS; a story of motherhood and being a woman; a story of writing and performing told with soul-bearing honesty.

Imagine arriving somewhere new, only to find that everyone there already seems to know who you are. When Antipholus arrives in Ephesus in search of his family, he gets a little more than he bargained for. Strangers say hello as if they’ve known him for years, people give him expensive jewellery and a rather odd woman seems to think she’s his wife.

Two sets of identical twins later, everyone is very confused…

Open every day from 10.30am, serving lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, you don’t have to be watching a show to join us in the Rooftop Restaurant. With two more cafes in the main theatre buildings and Susie’s cafe bar at The Other Place, there’s always something on the menu to suit you, day and night: hot and cold meals, children’s lunchboxes, mouth-watering cakes, vegan and gluten-free options and locally-sourced beers and spirits – all accompanied by a relaxed atmosphere and free WiFi.

Spend your day at our Stratford-upon-Avon home. Explore our buildings, discover theatre-making secrets in our permanent exhibition, The Play’s The Thing, look out over Stratford from the Tower, dress up as a king, eat, drink, sit by the river, or feed the ducks. There’s plenty to fill your day.

The redevelopment of the Swan Wing and The Play’s The Thing exhibition are generously supported by the HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND

Catch a touring production in your regional theatre, including Matilda The Musical, which is also still playing in London’s West End. Or come and see us at the Barbican, our London base. Wherever you are, you’re never far from the RSC.Live from Stratford-upon-Avon is generously sponsored by SIDNEY E. FRANK FOUNDATION
