Poem by Anura Taraiya

If everything on earth was about to end

what would we miss more?

Would we miss the small things that we

everyday ignore?

The smell of cut grass on a sunny

afternoon

The splash of colour of the season's first

bloom?

Or the copper glazed hue of autumn's first

leaves

Perhaps the hot summer's first fresh

breeze?

Searching in our pockets and finding

forgotten money

Or the taste of strawberries and cream

laced with honey.

Or the last time we sat on the park's swing

Or the happiness someone's friendly smile

could bring.

The joy on your birthday from a gift or a

greeting.

Not seeing friends for years and then a

sudden meeting.

Twinkling scattered in the velvety black

sky

Or solving a problem just on the first try.

Jumping into a swimming pool on a hot

afternoon

Or sitting on a balcony and admiring the

moon.

Sitting with your friends just enjoying an

ice cream

Or waking up content after a night full of

dreams.

If everything on earth was about to end

what would we miss more?

Would we miss the small things that we

everyday ignore?

Anura Taraiya

Zip Wire Experience

Chaitrali S Chitre

I would like share an experience about our latest trip to Devon when, you have a family of 21

going together it's altogether a different atmosphere fun-filled evenings and full of energetic

days where we do lots of sports, just to encourage our children and be children like them.

One of my experiences which I would like to share, I feel scared of heights, but because my

son insisted me to do the sport, I did a zip wire ride, which was pushing yourself off the cliff.

The experience was awesome screaming my heart out because I was very scared. The ride

lasted for one minute. When the ride started, I was very scared, my whole family was

encouraging me to go for it.

Later when I reach the middle of the ride I started enjoying and then as if I started feeling the

breeze on my face. That's when I felt as if I was a bird and wondered what would the birds

feel like? It was just in the middle of the cliff above the water, I had never experienced

anything like that.

I would highly recommend all those who get scared of heights to experience once. I've never

done a zip wire before this. It’s an awesome feeling. If it wouldn't have been for my son to

encourage me, I wouldn’t have done it. I wanted him to do the ride. Was my motto.

Sometimes children teach you a lot and you do things just to encourage them.

we did lots of sports I did Sea kayaking for the first time, I also did surfing for the first time.

I had fun the whole day with my kids enjoying in the sea at Devon. It’s really beautiful &

pleasant beach. I didn't feel scared of the water at all. This was the first time I would have

enjoyed something like that. I highly recommend everybody to go to Devon once to

experience the nature & the beauty & enjoy yourselves.

Monsoon Fun

Aditi Kibe

So I landed in Mumbai in the middle of a heavy rain, this year, lord of the rains, Indra Dev

has been extra kind and most of the country is under heavy waters. The flight to Indore got

delayed by 45 minutes and to make matters worse my luggage did not arrive for two days.

The reduced net connectivity did not help either and I was feeling really low, thinking what a

start to the holidays. Nevertheless, family and your home always brings cheer even in the

most depressing times, so I went along with the flow and I was back to good spirits looking

forward to enjoying the rains. We decided to explore the areas around Indore. Over the past

few years, development has been really fast and the entire landscape has changed. Old small

roads have been replaced with new broad ones, and the city is now blessed with a new

Narmada pipeline, which is truly a life line and is supplying water to most of the city. How it

has been laid is an engineering marvel.

The Malwa plateau has many beautiful places to visit; the dry land is transformed into lush

greens after the arrival of the monsoons. It’s the perfect time to enjoy corn and deep fried

pakodas. Somehow they are tastier in this weather! I know living in the UK we are used to

rains and get tired of them, but I always find monsoons to be magical. Here I am sharing a

few glimpses of our adventure around Indore.

Grow Mint at home

By Shabana Sarguro

Hello friends,

I am back again and this time I am starting a series of tutorials for all those who are interested in learning basics of gardening and don’t know where to go. We will start will simple techniques, simple plants and with a very positive attitude. It’s ok to make mistakes, it’s fine if our experiments fail and it’s Ok if the plants wilt and die... these are all learnings and we will learn from our mistakes...

So, let’s begin our journey with growing mint at home. It is the easiest and I will show how we can achieve this pictorially. I am enclosing some pictures and a clear demonstration. I am sure you buy mint from the market, next time you go mint shopping, please pick up thick stems. Follow the simple steps:

1. When you pluck the leaves for use, keep a few small leaves on the stem. Do not throw the stems away instead Immerse the stems in water (picture1).

2. Change the water every 2-3 days. Depending on the weather (faster in summers), some stems will develop roots, some will turn brown/ black. Discard the black/ brown ones (picture 2). Keep it back in the water till you get roots which are almost 1-2 inches long (picture 3).

3. Take a pot, make 3-4 holes at the base, add a layer of gravel (course sand/ soil). Layer it with good quality compost. Make indents in the soil and plant the stems. Gently using your fist apply little pressure on the soil so that the stems are firm in the soil (picture 4). Water the pot regularly. Keep it in a location with adequate light - doesn’t need full sun. You can keep it indoors as well near the window.

Follow these simple steps... you will never buy mint again. Please share your experiences at [email protected]

Happy gardening😀
