YOUTH/ CHILDREN

Take Out Church: Our July Buckets seemed to be a hit so we are continuing with August boxes with a Share the Light Theme. Games, crafts, devotions, and more for families to enjoy throughout the month. Pick-up your box on August 2 at outdoor worship or in the breezeway behind the Sanctuary.

A Thank You From Chuck… Dear Bethlehem Family, With great appreciation, I opened your love offering after our last worship service together. Thank you so much for your kind generosi-ty. I appreciate you for so many different reasons.

Connecting Youth and Children into service: As we continue our weekly devotions we have also met face to face for fellowship and social distancing games at the church. Ex-citement and anxieties of school are building and we continue to lean on each other for support and guidance through our Christian fellowship. For those who were unable to join us we left with the knowledge that God's Got This, He has our plan and pur-pose written and we must trust in His word and visit His word often to stay connected to our purpose. We have 15 youth and adults who are participating in the mis-sion project this summer. Our theme focused on being the Light of Christ! We are blessed with several warriors who made this possible to build a ramp for a needy family and build an experience for our youth through devotions, games, and even t-shirts that help them carry that light out to reach more in our community as we model how to be the Light of Christ. A huge shout out to Suzanne and Jim-my Michael, Chris Nuckolls, Derek and Pam Harpe for helping to make our week a success!

A little Mixed Up

Just a line to say I’m living, That I’m NOT among the dead;

Though I’m getting more forgetful, And more “mixed up “in the head.

For sometimes I can’t remember,

When I stand at foot of stair, If I must go up for something,

Or I’ve just come down from there!

And before the frige, so often, My poor mind is filled with doubt,

Have I just put food away, or Have I come to take some out?

And there’s times when it is dark out,

With my nightcap on my head, I don’t know if I’m retiring, Or just getting out of bed.

So, if it’s my turn to write you,

There’s no need in getting sore. I may think that I have written, And don’t want to be a bore.

So, remember – I do love you, And I wish that you were here; But now, it’s nearly mail time,

So, I must say, “Goodbye, dear”.

There I stood beside the mailbox, With a face so very red,

Instead of mailing you my letter- I opened it instead!!

CELL PHONE DONATIONS… Do you have old, unused cell phones lying around the house? Put them to good use by donating them to Davie Domestic Violence Services & Rape Crisis Center. Do-nated phones are either refurbished for reimbursement for client services or reactivated for client use. Safety is a key issue for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; a cell phone activated with 911 telephone service can be extremely necessary and even life-saving. Please place your old cell phones (with charger if you have it) in the designated box in the Missions Room. For questions, please contact Virginia Burnette (336-409-8721)

Book Bags of Hope This school year Bethlehem is partnering with Smith Grove UMC on the Book Bags of Hope project for Pinebrook Elementary & North Davie Middle Schools. This project donates a bag of food every Friday to a child for the weekend. These children would normally have very little, or no food to eat on the weekend. There are about 65 bags given out each Friday. All foods are individually wrapped, single servings, and require minimal cooking. Help us by donating food to this worthy cause. Some food items are alternated throughout the year, but the items on this list are collected all year long. Purchase items on the list below, and donate items in the boxes provided around the church.

MISSIONS MOMENT Wow! It’s August! Very hot and the time of year we begin to think about school starting. Children are getting excited about buying new clothes and new school supplies and seeing their friends again. Par-ents are excited, too, about getting back to a routine and not having to figure out each day how to entertain and engage their children during the long summer months. This year’s summer vacation has been espe-cially long since the children have been “home” from school since mid-March. The beginning of school this year continues to be different than other years because COVID-19 is still in our midst and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. This year will begin differently for our chil-dren. Some of our students will get to go to their classrooms, some will do all remote learning from their homes, and others will do a combina-tion of the two. However, all these students will need school supplies just like in years past. And, also, like in years past, some of our Davie County families cannot afford to buy their children the needed school supplies. That’s where we can help! School is beginning earlier this year— on Monday, August 17. Therefore, if you are able to donate a few items, could you please bring them on Sunday, August 2 or Sunday, August 9. This will give A Store-house for Jesus time to distribute the school supplies to the students in need before school actually begins. You may drop off the school sup-plies in the designated boxes beside the offering buckets. These are the same ones where you have been placing food items on Sunday morn-ings. You may also place the school supplies in the breezeway between the sanctuary and the Christian Activity Center building during the week. We will continue to collect school supplies through mid-September. A list of suggested school items can be found on the next page in this newsletter. Thank you for helping our Davie County stu-dents in need get off to a good, strong start in school this year! Thank you, also, for your continued generosity and faithfulness in bring-ing food items each week for A Storehouse for Jesus. Each donated item is very appreciated and is helping to feed the hungry in our com-munity. We will continue to inform you each week about needed food items. There is also a need at this time for plastic grocery bags and emp-ty egg cartons. Love in Christ, Virginia Burnette, Missions Chair
