Dan Patane won the Douglas

Rods Angler of the Year Series

at Chaumont Bay on June 28, 2020.

This is Dan’s first club win. Dan weighed 17.76 lbs. Dan said, “Sunday’s weather

appeared like it was going to be slightly better than the last 4 days that blew 15 plus mph. I made the

early decision to run to some fish that I had found in practice. I was able to catch my fish on a few different things but mostly a Ned rig. I put my weight in the boat by 10:00 am. After some boats showed up in the area it started to get beat up a little. After watching the biggest smallmouth I’ve ever seen follow a 4 pounder that Wes had on, I decided to stay in the area for a bit longer. With no upgrades for myself, Wes was able to fill a decent limit out of the back of the boat. Overall it was a great day spent with Wes “Dutch” Vyverberg. Thanks everyone who was involved in putting these events on. I know it was especially difficult during these times. I am looking forward to the next!”

Rod Brown took 2nd Place with 17.16 lbs. Rod said, “I caught about 11 keepers for the day. I had narrowed down my approach to just 3 spots. My beginning area was only an acre in size. It consisted of broken rock with a drop from 12’ to 16’. Again

a Ned rig was my friend with drop shot a close second. I culled once on my starting spot then caught a quick 3 fish and lost a nice fish which would have been my fourth on my 2nd spot. This spot was only the size

of a couple rooms in your house but always holds at least a few fish. At this point I felt I needed a couple of kicker fish, so about 10:30 I went to the lake. I fished 30’ with a tube. I picked up my 2nd best fish on a tube but an hour and half later I only one other fish that didn’t help. I jumped around with nothing better coming my way.

Three with a limit weighing 15.68 lbs. Kurt sad, “I ran my areas catching fish on an A-rig and Ned Rig. I caught about 9 keepers throughout the day. I fished shallow which was a challenge with the wind and not

having my Talons this year. Great job by Wes and the support crew running his first tournaments under adverse Covid-19 conditions. Thank you to Dom & Marie Cerasuolo

In the 4th place slot was Matt Ferrante.

Matt finished in the money for the 2nd day in a row. Matt weighed

14.48 lbs.

Finishing in 5th Place was Eric Hughes. Eric weighed 13.70 lb. limit from the bay. Eric fished scattered rocks and weeds in 15 to 20 feet of water.

6th Place went to first year Tournament Director Wes “Dutch” Vyverberg. With his first tournament under his belt Wes weighed in 12.97 lbs.

In 7th Place new club member Ben Levy. Ben weighed in went to 12.89 lbs. Ben said, “All I was doing was dragging a Ned rig in 14-18 feet of water to catch my limit. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dom Cerasuolo

for the spots we were fishing.
