Home Owners Association News August 2020 | Volume 2 Issue 13 A quarterly newsletter celebrating the experience, life, and news of Running Y Ranch Resort COVID –19 In spite of many challenges from the COVID 19 situaon, the resort is up and running, working to provide services and amenies to owners and guests, while complying with the evolving restricons intended to contain the spread of the disease, and keeping our employees working. Please check with the SFC, lodge, golf pro shop on current restricons and operang procedures. Volunteers Thanks to Perrie and Janice Costa who have donated countless hours in maintaining and improving the off-leash dog area. Their work enhanced everyones experience at the dog area. Also, thank you to all the members of the Garden Club who volunteered me and resources to freshen the flagpole area. With bark mulch donated by the management company and planngs from the club, their efforts have transformed the corner into a garden spot. Fire Season In July, the first local wildfire of the season occurred on Spence Mountain, just across Howard Bay from the Running Y. Oregon Department of Forestry crews and helicopters responded quickly and contained the fire to less than 100 acres before exnguishing it. This is a reminder that fire season is again upon us. The Running Ys Wildfire Risk Reducon Policy, in place since 2006, provides a community specific plan for reducing the likelihood that a wildfire could happen at Running Y, and for slowing the growth and intensity of a fire. The key element in our policy is elimi- nang ladder fuels – the link between ground level fuels and the tree canopy vegetaon. Over the years large areas of private lots and undeveloped land have been treated by clearing brush and limbing trees. The second element is the establishment of defensible zones around structures. The policy provides for a phased inspecon program by management company personnel who have received Oregon Department of Forestry training to assess and provide feedback to property owners. Addional informaon for homeowners can be found in the Klamath County Community Wildfire Protecon Plan of 2007, available at kcrsg.org. The 2016 update of the plan is available on the Klamath County website (klamathcounty.org). Much work remains to be done, and it will be an ongoing task, but the risk of a fire geng out of control and threatening structures at the Running Y has been greatly reduced. COVID –19 In spite of many challenges from the COVID 19 situation, the resort is up and running, working to provide services and amenities to owners and guests, while complying with the evolving restrictions intended to contain the spread of the disease, and keeping our employees working. Please check with the SFC, lodge, golf pro shop on current restrictions and operating procedures. Volunteers • Thanks to Perrie and Janice Costa who have donated countless hours in maintaining and improving the off-leash dog area. Their work enhanced everyone’s experience at the dog area. • Also, thank you to all the members of the Garden Club who volunteered time and resources to freshen the flagpole area. With bark mulch donated by the management company and plantings from the club, their efforts have transformed the corner into a garden spot. Fire Season • In July, the first local wildfire of the season occurred on Spence Mountain, just across Howard Bay from the Running Y. Oregon Department of Forestry crews and helicopters responded quickly and contained the fire to less than 100 acres before extinguishing it. This is a reminder that fire season is again upon us. The Running Y’s Wildfire Risk Reduction Policy, in place since 2006, provides a community specific plan for reducing the likelihood that a wildfire could happen at Running Y, and for slowing the growth and intensity of a fire. The key element in our policy is elimi-nating ladder fuels – the link between ground level fuels and the tree canopy vegetation. Over the years large areas of private lots and undeveloped land have been treated by clearing brush and limbing trees. • The second element is the establishment of defensible zones around structures. The policy provides for a phased inspection program by management company personnel who have received Oregon Department of Forestry training to assess and provide feedback to property owners. Additional information for homeowners can be found in the Klamath County Community Wildfire Protection Plan of 2007, available at kcrsg.org. The 2016 update of the plan is available on the Klamath County website (klamathcounty.org). • Much work remains to be done, and it will be an ongoing task, but the risk of a fire getting out of control and threatening structures at the Running Y has been greatly reduced.

Sports and Fitness Center Update The management company is finishing renovations to return the old spa area to an activity and meeting space and to expand the fitness room – especially relevant now that spacing/distancing has become a critical issue. Approved reserve projects for the SFC including interior painting, pool filter replacement, updated LED lighting in the pool building, new lockers and shower stalls have all been completed. If you haven’t visited the facility recently, stop by and Mindy will give you a tour of this value-enhancing amenity at the Running Y. Transition We recently welcomed Elizabeth Fitzgerald to the management company team. Elizabeth brings a new perspective, along with relevant training and experience to the group. See the sidebar in this issue for more on Elizabeth’s background. Elizabeth is filling the gap left by the recent semi-retirement of Marie and my upcoming departure at the end of August. Marie and I will both contin-ue to serve in support roles to provide Elizabeth with corporate history and administrative backing.

Fire Danger Policy

In addition to the Wildfire Risk Reduction Program which seeks to mitigate the spread of fire, the

following Association policy addresses prevention and specifically prohibits discarding any burning

material:

…Fire Danger Fire danger is a constant concern in this dry climate. Cigarette butts or any other burning materials must be completely extinguished and carefully discarded in an appropriate trash facility. From time to time during the fire season, additional policies may be adopted to further restrict the location of any smoking activity. For the safety of resort owners, guests and our wildlife as well as preservation of the resort's natural beauty, please abide by this policy..…

If you have questions or to report a violation of this policy call Owner Services at 541-891-1309.

Things at the resort have been very busy this summer! We are thankful to have been able to re-open all services following new guidelines to keep our guests and staff safe and healthy during the midst of the global pandemic. Staff in all areas are taking additional measures to ensure sanitation procedures are being done. In addition, all staff are wearing face masks while indoors or where social distancing can not be adhered to in outdoor settings. We kindly ask that all guests abide by these same regulations to keep everyone, including our families at home, safe and healthy.

Our golf team has done an amazing job of keeping golfers out on the course, which is in great shape again this year. The pro shop staff are here to serve you and are keeping the window open for those more comfortable handling transactions there as opposed to stepping inside the building. The maintenance team has been working hard to keep course conditions ideal. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the golf course yet this year, complete with all new golf carts, do so soon! As an added service, we now have a taco truck Tuesday-Sunday (hours subject to change at vendors discretion) for a great bite to eat.

Sandhill Spa has re-opened in it’s new location in the Pro Shop as well. Unfortunately, due to regulations, not all of the wonderful aspects of this new venue are available for use right now however, I am sure you can still get in some relaxation time or get those fingers and toes prettied up. While you are in there, be sure to say hello to our new Spa Manager, Vanessa Randall. Vanessa has been a massage therapist for the resort since 2015 and has stepped into the manager position and is doing a great job. Stay tuned for a new offering as well, Ashiatsu. Once we are able to offer this service we will announce it on social media. This is a great variation of massage which is used by many sports-minded individuals, including golfers, which leaves no residual soreness so you can get right back out on the course again.

On the food and beverage side of things, we are cranking. We know many of you have experienced some long wait times for service and food delivery and we sincerely apologize. The staff has many new restrictions under which to operate resulting in service takes longer than the pre-COVID days. Rest assured, this is all in an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy while we venture out of our homes. We have also seen a drastic increase in to-go orders which causes a backup in the kitchen, where they too are trying to socially distance themselves as much as possible while also adhering to new sanitation standards. We appreciate everyone’s patience with us during these times. In an effort to relieve some of the traffic in the restaurant we are in the process of opening up the pavilion for a reduced food (paninis, sandwiches and salads) and beverage service on Thursday-Saturday nights although there will be some occasions when the pavilion will be closed for a private event. As an added offering, the taco truck will also set up on the east side of the lodge those same evenings. The views don’t get any better than that location for an outdoor dining experience, so stop on by and see us.

Above all, we are very thankful for the support of all the homeowners. You have been so supportive of us and we are all very grateful for your continued support. -Christy Mullinix, General manager
