PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our mission as the Body of Christ in the parish of St. Jean Vianney is to model the love of Jesus by discerning and doing God’s will, consciously Sharing the Word and Eucharist at worship, educating in faith all ages, evangelizing our parishioners for Christ’s mission, and serving justly God’s people, our sisters and brothers within our parish boundaries, our larger Baton Rouge community, and into the world.

This Sunday, we celebrate our service of Ministry Commitment, an appropriate way to honor God by sharing our intent to participate in the ministries of our

Parish church. We close the Steward-ship of Ministry portion of our Total Stewardship program and invite each parishioner to return a completed Ministry Commitment card with the offertory collection. “In the spirit of faith,” every gift of time and talent will bear fruit to the glory of God. For hundreds of years, and fifty as the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Catholics have served God faithfully in south Louisiana. Please share your desire to minister within our Parish. This is a clear opportunity to refresh the kingdom of God. Jesus followed his baptism with a life of ministry and service that, to a great degree, we continue to model. He taught and preached, and we teach and preach. He counseled and healed, and we counsel and heal. He patiently encouraged the hurting and, in long nights of devotion, he prayed that their faith might be strengthened by his presence. We too pray and encourage the faithful to serve God in the power of his Spirit. We lend a hand, extend hospitality, and point others to the truth of the Gospel, and Jesus did all these things. The Lord showed us that our gifts are many, and opportunities to use them are limitless. In this Stewardship of Ministry celebration, we thank God for those opportunities and express gratitude to all those who willingly commit to serve him, “in the spirit of faith.”

ADMINISTRATIVE Administration Commission Member : This group assists in planning and evaluation of parish administration ministries. [Three to four meetings a year.] Physical Plant Committee : This group assists the Maintenance Supervisor and Pastor in good stewardship of parish facilities and grounds. [Three to four meetings a year.] Parish Office Helper: Assists Office personnel in answering phones, filing and other office work. [As needed]. Newcomer’s Welcoming Committee: Represents to parish newcomers a welcoming spirit and offers practical ways to enter into the life of the parish. [Once a month at Sunday Liturgy; periodic Welcoming events.] Parish/School Men’s Club: Fraternal group open to all men of the parish. Assists with the maintenance of the facilities and grounds on the campus. [Monthly meetings and periodic projects.] Parish Finance Committee: Assists the Pastor and parish staff in the creation and monitoring of the yearly parish budget. [Interview process involved; periodic meetings.]

EDUCATION Education Commission Member: This group assists in planning and evaluating of parish education and religious education ministries, in collaboration with the parish Religious Education program, St. Jean Vianney Elementary School and the St. Jean Vianney Preschool. [Three to four meetings a year] Children’s Church Leader: Adults assist in presenting God’s Word to children K-4, at 9:30am Sunday Mass, twice a month. October through May. Elementary Religious Education Teacher: 1st-5th –Catechist for classroom setting; September- May; Mondays 6:00pm-7:15pm. Ongoing formation offered. Junior High Religious Education Teacher: 6th-8th- Catechist for classroom setting; September-May; Mondays 6:00pm- 7:15pm. Ongoing formation offered. High School Religious Education Teacher: 9th-11th- Catechists for high school years; September – May, two Sundays a month, 6:30pm- 8:30pm. Ongoing formation offered. Religious Education Teacher’s Assistant: [all grade levels]: Assists catechist in classroom sessions; at the time program offered. Ongoing formation offered. Religious Education Office Helper: As needed. Adult Formation Core Team: Assists pastor in developing and offering yearly focus of on going religious of formation for adults in the parish. [Periodic meetings, Sundays 12:30-2:00pm.] RCIA Catechist: Assists in the catechetical formation of adults who seek Christian initiation. [Some Wednesday evening weekly sessions, member of team, formation offered and required.] RCIA Sponsor: Accompany catechumen or candidate in faith formation. Awakening Faith/Returning Catholic Leader: Process to assist Catholics to return to the Church. Catechists/sponsors sought. [Six week process, offered twice a year.] COMMUNITY LIFE Community Life Commission Member: This group assists in the planning and evaluation of parish social events that build community life. [Three-four events a year; quarterly meetings.] Catholic Daughters of the Americas Member: Catholic women’s group focused on charity, service. [Monthly meeting, second Monday evening.] Junior Catholic Daughters Member: Young Catholic women’s group focused on charity and service. “Double Nickels” Senior Ministry Member: For parishioners 55yrs and older; fellowship, travel, food, friendship, activities; periodic meetings Sunday afternoons 2:00pm. Knights of Columbus Member: Catholic men’s fraternal organization, focused on service, charity, prayer. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month, 6:30pm. Boy/Cub Scout Member: Troop/Pack 490 representing various age groups; variety of times and places. Girl Scout Member: Troops representing various age groups; variety of times and places. High School Youth Ministry Adult Helper: Catholic centered Youth Ministry; assist in emotional, spiritual, social and educational formation of youth; [Most Sunday evenings after 5:30pm Mass. Check parish online calendar for specific dates.] Hospitality Committee/Coffee Donuts: Prepare and host weekly coffee-donut gathering of parishioners after the 7:30am and 9:30am Sunday Masses. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Social Responsibility Commission Member: This group assists in the planning and evaluation of parish social responsibility ministries. [quarterly meetings per year.] Bereavement Ministry Five teams of volunteers offer personal outreach to family of deceased parishioners. [As needed.] Bishop Ott Shelter Meals Cook: Preparation of meals for Bishop Ott Men’s Shelter, 1st Tuesday of each month; and Women and Children’s Shelter on 3rd Wednesday of each month. [Rotating teams.] Disaster Relief Team Member: Linked to Catholic Charities and Red Cross, this group creates a comprehensive disaster response plan: cleanup, transportation, meals, financial aid, housing and shelter management. [As needed.] Parent’s Night Out Program for Special Needs Children: For parents of special needs children, providing one Friday evening semi-monthly. Threads of Love Sewing Ministry: Interdenominational ministry that helps to respond to the needs of newborns and families during times of crisis; works in collaboration with the NICU at Ochsner’s Hospital. [Monthly meetings.] Elizabeth Ministry [Assisting New Mothers]: Parish home visit outreach to women during child-bearing years. [As needed.] Nursing Home Visitor: Visitor to residents of Regency Place Nursing Home offering spiritual and social connections. [schedule de-veloped based on need.] Hospital Visitor: Visitor to patients in Ochsner Hospital offering spiritual support outside of Mass. (Schedule developed based on need.) “Just Faith” Program: Participant in a 30-week (fall to spring) program of faith and compassion exploring Catholic Social Teachings and implications for Christian Catholic living.

“Justice Walking” For Teen Adult Leader : High school participant or adult support is a three to six month “prophet-raising” process that forms small communities of adults and older teens who experiment with living the Gospel message through prayer, retreats, read-ing, dialogue, and encounters. [Schedule will be determined by Team.] Food Pantry Workers: Keeping parish food pantry in order and assist with monthly food drives. [Monthly food collection over weekend at Church; distribution as needed.] Emergency Assistance Interviewer: Processing in-office applications; to verify needs of persons/ families requesting assistance. Nicaragua Mission Committee: Committee member to assist in the forging of relationships with Batahola Center in Nicaragua. Parish Blood Drives: Willing to support the three annual blood drives offered through Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and United Blood Services through donations or assisting at a drive. Habitat for Humanity Worker: Each Spring participation in a Habitat House builds in Baton Rouge. [Two to three days a year.] Together Baton Rouge: Committee member willing to work ecumenically to create a more just, safe and unified Baton Rouge [Periodic meetings and events throughout the year.] SPIRITUAL LIFE AND WORSHIP Spiritual Life and Worship Commission: This group assists in the planning and evaluation of parish spiritual life and worship ministries. [Three to four meetings a year. Altar Server: Open to boys and girls in 4th grade and up. Serving at least monthly at Sunday Mass. Primary training required, with supplemental sessions throughout the year. Church Environment Committee: Responsible for the seasonal liturgical environments in Church. [six times a year at specific dates and times in Church.] Minister of Holy Communion: Assisting the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion. Scheduled on monthly basis. Also to bring Communion to the sick and homebound of the parish. [Formation required.] Lector: Proclaiming the Word of God at Mass. Scheduled on monthly basis. [Formation required.] Children’s Choir: Monthly directed choir, 9:30am Sundays; for elementary age children. [Practice prior to singing required.] 9:30am Sunday Choir: Providing support for the Assembly’s singing on Sundays of the year at 9:30am Mass. [Rehearsal on Wednesdays, 7:30pm. No audition or previous experience required.] 5:30pm Life Teen Band and Singers: Providing support for the Assembly’s singing on Sundays of the year at 5:30pm Mass. [Rehearsal once a month on Thursday, 6:00pm, Audition required.] Prayer Line Member: Willing to take prayer intentions daily. [Done from home.] Usher: Responsible for the details of hospitality and service for Sunday Masses each weekend. [Weekly scheduled determined by participant; and at various holidays.] Christ Renews His Parish Retreats Men and Women: A retreat movement centered in the parish, for Men and for Women. Participants can take part in a yearly retreat for men in August and women in October. [Formation required.] Small Christian Community Team Member: Small Christian Community Leadership group which assists in the twice yearly small Christian community offerings of the parish. [Twice a year for six weeks.] Small Christian Community Member: Participant takes part in the faith sharing groups in the Advent and Lenten season each year. [Six weeks sessions.] Small Christian Community Facilitator: Willing to lead one of the Quest small faith groups. [Twice a year- formation offered.] Vocations Committee: Promotion of vocations to priesthood, diaconate and men’s and women’s religious life. In collaboration with the Diocesan Office of Vocations. [Periodic meetings.] World Wide Marriage Encounter: An international group for the promotion and support of the Sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders. Weekends held in Baton Rouge periodically. Altar Society: Provides support for the general housekeeping of the Church; and the replenishing of the votive candles in church. Saturday / Sunday Mass Coordinator: Person (s) responsible for the preparation of the items used for Saturday/Sunday Masses and coordination of assigned ministers for that Mass. Formation offered; scheduled per Mass.

Engaged Encounter Diocesan Program: Married couples sought to assist priest in presenting weekends of formation for engaged couples. Held periodically during the year on a weekend, at the Catholic Life Center. TOTAL STEWARDSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT Total Stewardship and Development Commission Member: This group assists in the planning and evaluation of parish stewardship and development ministries. [Periodic meetings during the year.] Stewardship Committee [Prayer-Finance- Ministry]: Assists the pastor and staff in the preparation of and evaluation of all three phases of Catholic Stewardship. [Stewardship is done three times a year; meetings held in preparation for each phase.] Parish Communications Committee: To assist the parish staff in the most effective use of communication methods and technologies; print, internet, oral. [Periodic meetings during the year] Planned Giving Committee: A committee to help guide a comprehensive program of planned giving for the future of the parish and schools [Periodic meetings during the year] School Alumni Relations: Committee which seeks to create a data base of alumni of our Catholic School, and Alumni gatherings. [In conjunction with the Catholic School Administration-meetings periodically during the year.] St. Jean Vianney School: Assisting the Development Director in the promotion of the School’s resources and the involvement of school families in ministry. [In conjunction with the Catholic School Administration-meetings periodically during the year.] St. Jean Vianney Preschool: Volunteer for preschool office. Parish Capital Campaign Worker: Person willing to participate in the Parish Capital Campaign effort. Training offered. Schedule to be determined.
