A man called a plumber and asked him to fix a problem with the water pipes. “I’m pretty busy,,” the plumber said. “In fact, it’ll be exactly 2 years before I can get around to fix the problem.” The man asked, “Will you be coming here in the morning or afternoon?” “Two years from now…what difference will it make? Morning! Afternoon! So what?” “Well, the man said, “The cable man will be coming in the morning.” “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40. For the past couple of months, we have been having issues with the baptismal font. We have called plumber after plumber. I am in contact with the original plumber who installed the font – hoping that we can find the issue. We have replaced pumps, a hot water heater with many prayers. Hopefully, this weekend – the waters will be flowing. Pray God, may it be so! The children returned to St. Agnes this past week. It’s so nice to have all the hustle and bustle around the parish again. Thanks to all the school and parish staff who have done a lot of work in getting ready for their return. As we prayed last weekend – Fr. Bernie Berger suddenly passed into eternal life. Fr. Berger was retired and living in Harrison when he had a heart attack which eventually lead to his passing. Please pray for the repose of his soul. May these last days of summer be filled with happiness, joy and holiness.

Page 4 August 26, 2018

For the past five Sundays, we have read the discourse of the bread of life from

John’s Gospel. Jesus used the signs curing the sick and feeding the 5000 to establish that he is unlike any other man, unlike any other prophet. He then shocks the Jews by telling them that the Father has sent Him down from heaven and eternal life can be achieved only by eating His body and blood. These two major revelations in the bread of life discourse are so alien to those of the Jewish faith that most were longer open to receive His words in faith. Even with this mass exodus of those who followed, Jesus does not waiver in the truth of His proclamation about being the bread of life.

The Apostles remain loyal to Him, for they have begun to see the possibilities Jesus’ promises have val-ue although many of His words do not make sense. Even after this profession of commitment to Jesus, the Apostles will continue to have moments of doubt and failure. Through the reception Holy Spirit and His Body and Blood, the Apostles grow in their faith to the point where they accepted martyrdom looking forward to Jesus’ promise of enteral life.

Part of faith is to listen and follow Jesus even though it does not make complete sense. As with the Jews and his Apostles, Jesus leaves each one of us the freedom to accept or reject Him, to trust or abandon Him. Jesus is all-powerful, but He refuses to abuse His power by controlling our free will. Jesus calls us to be-lieve and follow Him, but He never forces us. We who believe in the divinity of Christ have a unique privilege of allowing the Lord to enter into our being. By eating His body and drinking His Blood, we are willingly setting ourselves apart from others for Jesus now is spiritually and physically present within us. As we accept Jesus to be part of our lives, we increase our capacity for greater love, hope, and faith.

We know that although Christ is spiritually present as God everywhere around us, He is also physically present in His Body and Blood, God and man. We need only enter a Catholic Church, and we enter the physical presence of the mighty king, the Lord of the Universe who lived as a humble village carpenter, suffered, died and rose again for us. In every tabernacle in every Catholic Church in the world, this same infinite, eternal, om-nipotent and all-loving God/man is really physically present just as He was after the Resurrection. We enter in-to His physical presence and are close to him as the Apostles were during His life. Whereas they saw Him with their eyes, we can see Him through the eyes of faith.

Identifying the presence of Jesus in the consecrated bread and wine is only the beginning of faith. From this spiritual encounter, we strive to direct our lives toward unity with Jesus because we have learned to trust in Him. When facing moments of crisis, when the demands of faith outstrip the powers of understand-ing, we can either lean on ourselves and fall or lean even harder on Jesus and rise to the heights of love. Since Jesus is the Son of God, we act because He provides us with spirit and life.

I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20)

Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: John 6:68-69

On the Way to Mass: What do you think Jesus would look like if you met him on the street? On the Way Home From Mass: Did you ever miss seeing something that was easily observed later? What was obstructing your view? Living the Word: When we share insights of our experience of Christ, we help others see what they might not have. Ask each family member to draw a picture or cut out a picture from a magazine. Then ask each person to cut out the picture into as many pieces as there are people in the family. If your family is small, you may want to cut more than one piece for each person. Next, pass out the pieces and invite each member of the family to identify the picture, based on the pieces in their hand. Put the pieces together and see who is right.

What’s Happening at St. Agnes School………... Summer Upgrades

We are thrilled to share the wonderful upgrades made to our building during the summer months. Our new tartan gym floor was poured during the month of June. The surface was poured over the existing floor and has an amazing new look. Thanks to the Premiere guests who supported this project through the paddle auction.

A number of other areas received a freshening up with new paint including: the kitchen, back gym wall and gym bathrooms. As well, new stainless- steel sinks were installed in each classroom. The pre-K playground received the addition of a new playhouse, and our floors received a shiny new waxing.

Thanks to janitor, Orlando Linz, for all his hard work in cleaning and providing summer maintenance around the building and grounds this summer.
