the scoop AUGUST 29 2012 Every week we catch up as a whole school family and one of the things that we try and do is model a simple social goal that we want the kids to work on. This week a group from Mrs Aurik's class did a small role play on including / excluding someone from a conversation. It was a great reminder that while everyone at school is not necessarily your best friend, the way we show respect to people as individuals is through our body language and with the words we say - it doesn't cost us much to include other people and it makes them feel valued as an individual. Keep an eye out on the news and views from each classroom on how you can help out with costumes etc for our Term 3 production that is linked in with this terms inquiry. Our production timeline is zooming by and the show day of Wednesday evening in the last week of term will be upon us before we know it! Last week the Board had their pre visit meeting with the lead reviewer of the ERO (Education Review Office) team that is coming to visit us next term. They last visited our school in June 2009 and so it will be a good chance to share the learning and development journey that our school has been on. The ERO team is scheduled to arrive on Monday of Week 3 (which is Pet Day) and be around until Wednesday evening. It will be a good chance for them to touch base with some of you which they like to do as part of the review process and means they will get to see our community spirit in action! You may have noticed that the speed measuring lines that have been outside school were taken away last week. We thought this meant that our new speed limit signs (which will replace the yellow flashing lights) would be going up this week. Unfortunately, an error was made and there was no speed data collected! This means that the speed measuring lines are going out again with our new signs scheduled for installation in Week 3 of September! Every week we catch up as a whole school family and one of the things that we try and do is model a simple social goal that we want the kids to work on.

Keep an eye out on the news and views from each classroom on how you can help out with costumes etc for our Term 3 production that is

linked in with this terms inquiry.

It will be a good chance for them to touch base with some of you which they like to do as part of the review

process and means they will get to see our community spirit in action!

Week 7 Term 3MANUKA welcome Caitlyn to our happy team. We are beginning to learn our dance for production and will make a very colourful, cheerful bunch of truffula trees! If you are wanting to help with costume design and construction – please come along to a 10 minute meeting this Thursday at 2.30 to share ideas. We are reading and learning about different living things and the habitats they live in. Our question is: Is there a habitat around us that we need to be more careful of protecting? Please go to our class blog (through MBS website) and help your child to record their thinking. Certificates: Hannah for a fabulous start to her school days and Aimee for finding lots of information in the text.

KOWHAI Welcome back Miss Hannah vant' Wout, who will be spending the rest of the term with us as she completes a major component of her teacher training. We are looking forward to lots of fun and learning with you! In maths we have been exploring and describing different kinds of shapes, and we have made a "Shape Explorer" movie. As film makers, we had to write scripts, decide on settings and present our shape 'clues' clearly and expressively. Keep an eye out- it will be on our blog soon. Thank you to those who have offered to help with costumes for the production. We will keep you posted on what you can do to help!Certificates: Amilea Sparrow, Noah Lovelock

RIMU are carefully watching our plants grow. We are doing some experiments on some to see what happens. We continue to write persuasive arguments about why animals and plants are living. We continue to work on skip counting and making repeating groups and the children are still adding to the class blog with some of the photos they are taking with Q Bear and a living thing.Certificates: Ava Allan, Ollie Lemin

RATA Last Friday we all enjoyed celebrating Red Nose Day. It was good to have fun while helping others. This weekwe are writing persuasive letters to Mr Lovelock asking him if we can plant flowers in the school garden. This will help to provide nectar for the bees. We have started to put our learning about the 'elements of dance into practise and are making up a dance to perform in the production.Have a great week and thank you to the people who have sent along their hairbands.

MIRO are excited to be working with Kauri to restore our garden, compost and worm farm. This is part of our Inquiry and how we can make decisions and act in a way that makes a difference to living things and our environment. We look forward to sharing this learning journey with you on our class blog.A reminder that students are limited to 3 maths activities a night on study ladder.Urgently needed-Large sheets of card or boxes we could cut into circles approx. 1mx1m • I can't wait to make our costumes. Georgia• We have good ideas for the garden. Ben• I like the way our classroom looks. Jayden.Hooray, Miro are on assembly and would love to see you there.Certificates: Lucy McKee, Ben Black

We are well underway with creating our costumes for the production.Certificates: Ethan White - Great motivation to post comments and work on his blog to share with a wider audience.Bailey Pike - Participating well as part of a group and showing consideration to everyone.

KAURI Tomorrow we are going to James Hargest Senior College to be an audience for their production rehearsal, so we are looking forward to a fun and entertaining afternoon! Miss DuncanWe are getting ready for the production, it has been fun drawing and designing the costumes and picking the music. EthanFrom a journal book we read called 'Enviroschool, we have been motivated to start up a new garden club and do up the 'nothing' areas. In the book these are the places that could be useful but have become nothing spots and no longer 'environmental - like the worm farm. Rebecca and Aleisha

MATAI We've been learning all about sustainability this week. We're hoping to have a good look at some things we can do at home to make a difference for our planet. Please have a talk about some things you could start doing, whether recycling, reusing water etc.

There are is also some amazing student writing on our kidblogs this week. Please have a look through our class site and make a comment. The children love getting feedback on what they are writing and thinking.
