Community Guide. We hope that as you browse through this Guide, you discover a new program that will be interesting and habit forming. Physical � tness promotes health in both body and mind and aids in maintaining a balanced and happy life. As well as health and � tness for everyone from tots to seniors, this guide provides contacts for literacy, rehabilitation and general interest programs.

CHILDREN & youtH 3Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) Family Programs Qualified early childhood educators lead learning activities, including stories, music and art to help children get ready for success in kindergarten. Each session includes a Mother Goose circle time, time to participate together in play based learning centers and a nutritious snack. Parents and caregivers are likely to discover new ways to support their children’s learning at home, and may make valuable connections with others attending the centre.

To register for the StrongStart program, parents need to bring legal proof of identification for their children the first time they attend. For example, they could bring a birth certificate, permanent resident card, certificate of citizenship, documents issued by Immigration Canada, Aboriginal Status cards, passport/visa, or other vital statistics documents.Benefits to participating children and to the parents/caregivers include: Children will develop physically, linguistically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. Parents and caregivers will: gain knowledge of activities they can try at home to further support their child’s learning; learn about a range of guidance strategies that support social and emotional development; receive information on other services in the community; acquire knowledge of healthy snacks they can continue to feed their child at home and/or pack for that child when he or she starts school; and make valuable connections with other parents or caregivers

Making Connections: Free Program for Parents with school aged children K-Grade This 8-week program has been designed to help parents understand what goes on at school. Together, we will continue to develop skills that will help your child be a better learner. Gyminy Crickets Play GroupAn early learning program with stories, crafts, games, music, combined with a gymnastics component for children from 3-5 years of age. A wonderful atmosphere for your child to learn numeracy and literacy, learn to play, engage in social interaction and become accustomed to routines in preparation for Kindergarten. Cub Scouts For Boys and Girls ages 8-10. Challenging hikes, weekend camps, and an introduction to water activities like canoeing and kayaking are just a few of the fun outdoor adventures that Cub Scouts enjoy. With the motto of “Do Your Best” front and centre, Cub Scouts are encouraged to try new and challenging activities. Learning important first aid skills, paddling a canoe for the first time, or leading a game at camp will open the door for Cub Scouts to try other adventures they never thought possible. Scouts For Boys and Girls ages 11-14. The focus of this age group is to develop personal growth through challenging outdoor camps based on minimal impact camping. Scouts learn to move through the land without leaving a trace. Scouts learn to take responsibility for themselves and the world around them. Through their motto of “Be Prepared” Scouts experience a variety of activities such as high ropes training, search and rescue skills, and community involvement. Venturer Scouts For Boys and Girls ages 15-17. The motto for Venturer Scouts is “Challenge”. Leadership skills and community service become ways that these young adults can give back the fun and adventure skills they have learned. Kimberley Jackrabbit ProgramThis is a volunteer-run group that teaches children aged 4-14 to enjoy cross-country skiing. It starts with the youngest kids joining the Bunnyrabbit program, moving on to the Jackrabbit program, and then the older children join the Track Attack program. Each different level will challenge these children in different ways with the main focus on learning how to have fun on cross-country skis. Track Attack kids start with dryland-training sessions in September that focus on agility, speed, and strength. Track Attack kids also have a second training day on Tuesday evenings during the winter (6 – 7:30 pm). Skiing experience is not a requirement, only enthusiasm and a smile. 4H ClubAn organization for young people, ages 6 to 21. Our Motto is “Learn to do by Doing”. Have fun while learning and participating in Public Speaking, Demonstrations, Educational Displays and carrying out a project in a variety of areas, such as crafts, sewing, foods, beef, horse, sheep or a topic of interest to you. Kimberley Gymnastics Recreational, pre-competitive and competitive gymnastics and trampoline programs for all ages with flexibility in program scheduling. Kimberley Girl Guides Mountain View District An organization for girls & young women from ages 5 & up (Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Sr. Branch units). This organization belongs to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) which is the world’s largest organization of girls and women. Guiding is an accepting environment with diverse and exciting programs and activities that offer the chance to discover new interests, learn valuable leadership skills and make lasting friendships. Kimberley Seahorse Swim Club Offers swimmers ages 7 to adult an opportunity to develop swimming skills, endurance and team spirit in a fun, competitive atmosphere. Seniors Helping Seniors This program establishes a supportive connection between a volunteer and a senior in need. It fosters a healthy social and supportive relationship allowing older persons to help other older and more vulnerable seniors engage in their community. The program coordinator recruits volunteers who are then matched up with a senior participant. The volunteers provide the seniors with many valuable services such as: transportation, a walking partner, social opportunities, someone to do light repairs, relief form care giving responsibilities, and peer support.
