So the year is now more than half over. The summer is half over. I’ve decided this month to take stock of much that has happened and what I have learned so far this year.
It seems to me that the first part of the year has to be remembered for all the greats who have passed away. I suppose it’s just the cycle of life but it is does make you wonder. What I have learned is that Wikipedia has a site where they inform you of who has passed on each day. In fact, when I looked they already had the next day’s date listed in anticipation of someone, somewhere who has some modicum of celebrity passing. As I perused through the list I was shocked to discover that not only have Prince, David Bowie and Glenn Frey passed this year, but Dimitri, the Swiss clown died on July 19th at the age of 80 and more surprisingly, the Shawkshank tree c. 180, a North American White Oak featured in the movie The Shawkshank Redemption, is listed as passing on July 22nd.
The state of the world is a little disturbing these days. I’ve learned that the world is a difficult place to live. The fact that after all these thousands of years there are those that still don’t value life makes me question evolution. I remember thinking as a kid that when we all grow up we become normal. Turns out I was wrong. If you were nuts then chances are you’re crazier now.
However here in White Rock the music keeps playing, the sun keeps shining and we are still blessed to have discovered this place. The live concerts on the beach during the summer and especially during the Seafest weekend highlight all that is good on the peninsula. I have learned that I am blessed.
Finally, I encourage everyone to keep things in perspective. Take time to enjoy yourself and treat those around you well. And remember that if someone is there for you in the rough times they deserve to share the good times with you as well. And always keep the music playing. I’ve learned that if you want to score well you must have a short game.

When I'm in the process of writing a song or even learning a song I connect with real life events to help myself really relate to the message or emotions coming through, like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. I'm never certain how it will turn out but that's how life is - a journey not a race. It's a release for me. I let it happen naturally, letting the creativity flow and create something beautiful.I consider myself very blessed to have grown up in a family full of musicians, artists & hard working people. My family & friends have always supported my dreams and my career in music, every step of the way. When I was a little girl, I learned all about stage presence from my father, fellow musician John Fatiaki. We really bond and work well together. Thanks to him, I've been introduced to a large variety of well seasoned players and am proud to say I have my pick of some of the BEST working musicians Canada has to offer. It shows me that I've stepped up to their level over the years.”
